Karen’s Library | 574 comments Finishing up my reread of Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu so I can start on my buddy read of Prodigy (Legend, #2) by Marie Lu

Also rereading Fire Country (The Country Saga, #1) by David Estes , slowly this time around. ;-D

Wanda you are making me feel like such an underachiever with all my fluffy fiction books!

Karen would I like Legend IYO?? I have heard I wouldn't so skipped it. I hope to get to Fire Country soon - where is David?? I miss all my peeps! Shannen, Kourtni, Lloyd, Cassi I miss you all. I also miss Jaimie who is lurking somewhere and I need to talk to Hart of Dixie about! *sad face*

Heidi, I have a feeling you wouldn't really like Legend. (Although maybe I've already said this, haha.) I think it's somewhat similar to Divergent, which I know you didn't like much. It's another one of those dystopian books that doesn't really have any world-building. I've read both Legend and Prodigy and they were both all right for me, but I had a bunch of problems with them.

I tried the first book in the series but couldn't get into it Darren. I am far from the target audience though

I've got so many books and audiobooks going right now it is insane! I am listening to Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein and Necromancing the Stone (Necromancer, #2) by Lish McBride and reading Just One Day (Just One Day, #1) by Gayle Forman and The Sun Dwellers (The Dwellers #3) by David Estes (plus a I'm reading a cozy)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Darren wrote: "Still reading Eldest (Inheritance, #2) by Christopher Paolini . Have any of you read the Inheritance Cycle? It seems to be more of a guy's series, but girls might like it too."

The basic premise reminds me way too much (suspiciously so) of the Dragons of Pern series, which I liked a lot but don't appreciate reading it again.

I finished
Ice Country (The Country Saga, #2) by David Estes - wow!!! That's all I can say. And yes, David has been very quiet of late...

Oh, and I finally got from the library (drumroll please)... (wait for it)...
The Book Thief! I'll be starting it this weekend. So now I'm off Heidi's list.

Just finished:

The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness

It was all right ... I think Patrick Ness should stick to YA, though.

Started:

The Bane (The Eden Trilogy, #1) by Keary Taylor

And I also plan to start within the next few days:

The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey

I'm really excited for this one. Rick Yancey, yayyy. <3

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments Hmm, I really liked the Dragons of Pern series. I am going to try Inheritance Cycle one of these days, but it's just not anywhere near the top of by TBR pile.

I want to read the Necromancer series but I'm going to have to inter-library loan it. Since it's easier to just pick up what's already on the bookshelves, Hold Me Closer just keeps getting pushed down my TBR list.

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I'm still reading The Trumpeter of Krakow by Eric P. Kelly and picked up Watership Down by Richard Adams for a group read.

I read The Goldenwealth Light (The Traveler of Ord #1) by Scott McCloskey and enjoyed it except that it kinda ends with a cliffhanger.

No problem! And yes, I will totally keep you updated on the Rick Yancey book. I've heard very good things about it, so I'm really looking forward to reading it. (And I mean, it's written by Rick Yancey. So, yay!)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Hellooooooooo!!!! I'm still here! Sorry about being so absent lately, I rely on GRs to email me when a thread I'm following is active and they didn't email me for this one, annoying!!! I'm in too many groups lol :) But this is one of my faves! Thanks for all your nice comments and for noticing I haven't been around (you made me feel special!) and thanks to Heidi for reminding me to come on over ;)

I'm reading Shatter Me (finally!). I've avoided it because I heard there's not much action and is more dystopian romance which I don't usually like that much. Well, I'm 12% in and LOVE the creative writing style so the rest doesn't matter so much!

Harold Smithson | 87 comments I have an annoucement!

I read the comments in the last contest saying "Why six months?" First off, I'm honestly warmed to my core that you guys enjoyed it that much.

Secondly, I'd like to say that, due to those comments, I've decided to start the next contest June 1st. (Before that just isn't plausible, as I'm still a student and have finals to contend with)

Not entirely sure what the topic will be, so it's not too late to submit ideas. (And yes, I will be looking over the last contest to see what ideas have already been submitted)

See you then!

Aww you are so nice!! And you all are so nice for reading my books, I learn so much from all your reviews and I hope each book gets a little better!

I skipped Shatter Me for the same reason, I think someone I trusted told me they didn't like it or something. It turns out I shouldn't have as I LOVE it! The writing is just really cool for some reason. I think it's sort of a you love it or hate it type book. Maybe try the sample if you're at all interested, you'll know within a few pages whether you'll like it :)

I also loved the relationship that developed with Chris and I loved TJ's father.

About a fourth of the way through:

The Bane (The Eden Trilogy, #1) by Keary Taylor

The premise is pretty cool and it's addicting. But the pacing is kind of all over the place. And I sense a love triangle coming on. Sooo I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

And Heidi, I'm fairly sure you would dislike Shatter Me. Maybe you've already read my review of it, but ... yeah. Personally I really didn't like it, and one of the main reasons was because of the insta-love and whatnot. And I see how one could find the writing style interesting, but it really irritated me and none of the metaphors actually made sense, and ... it was just very frustrating for me.

message 4787: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I think you were the reason I didn't read Shatter Me Brigid! David is way nicer than I am and tries to see the good in things. I'm jaded! hahaha

Wendy I may try another book by him if my library has it on audiobook - Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher looks interesting

message 4788: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Lol the further I get into it I'm pretty sure you won't like it either! Too much romance and not enough action for you! But I still love it and am enamoured with the writing style :) (although I could do with less of the hot and heavy romance too). I like the crazy metaphors because some make a lot of sense and others none which I think is part of this girl who's had a hard life. She sees the world through a strange lens. As for insta-love, that's very debatable on this one, I think there are arguments either way :) But that's me putting my positive spin on things like you said lol!

message 4791: by David (new)

Although technically I resolved the main conflicts in the book, so I prefer to call it a "lead in to the third book." (That's shady author speak for cliffhanger)

LOL ;)

Well, I think I can safely say I don't think you'd like Shatter Me, Heidi :) I LOVED the first half but really didn't like the second half (particularly the last 25% and the ending), so I ended up at 3.5 stars...I'm not sure I'll read the sequel. I'm very disappointed as I thought it would be a 5 star read for me after the first 50%!

Hello and *waves* to all.
