Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments I should read a ton more in the book thief today...

And I finished a bunch of manga from a series called Sekirei

message 4652: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I finished The Host. Should start Ready Player One today or tomorrow. Next couple are Alanna: The First Adventure and The Hunters.

I also enjoyed The Graceling, so I hope it gets better for you, Layton.

At least it's a good dilemma, Lloyd. I'm sure there's no wrong decision.

What were your thoughts on the Host. I DNF it but heard it gets better (still not going re-try it though). I hope you like Ready Player One! I enjoyed the Alanna series. The first book is kind of more middle grade IMO but as she matures so does the writing.

Yay! I love Everwild (and that whole series). I also love Graceling, although the pace is kind of slow especially in the beginning. And yeah, I wasn't a fan of Gone. I also thought it was cheesy and I just didn't sympathize with the characters at all.

AHHHH I forgot The Crane Wife was already out. O_o

message 4658: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I didn't love or hate The Host. I actually liked the minor characters better than the main characters and I thought the story was interesting. It dragged in parts and I would have liked a more developed back story on the Melanie/Jared relationship ('cause what we got was not very good, in my opinion.) I would like to know what happens in the sequel and I'm curious who's POV will be used.

As for Alanna, it sounds like The Protector of the Small series then. T. Pierce changes the story content to fit the age of the main character.

Thanks for the update Becky! I think S. Meyer is just not for me but there are plenty of people who love her so I am sure she is fine :)

Lloyd | 110 comments I'm just keeping with A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3) by George R.R. Martin . SO good. And it's comforting to know I have The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness just waiting there for me. If I rush in and read it...then I'm just back to waiting for another Patrick Ness book! :P

message 4667: by Karen’s Library (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments One of my favorites! Yay for The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Currently reading Blue Hearts of Mars by Nicole Grotepas for a R&R and starting Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare tomorrow for a buddy read! Still working on The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2) by Stieg Larsson on audio. It's getting good now and I'm finally used to Lisbeth's voice so it's not quite as annoying. ;-). Glad I hung in there!

Karen’s Library | 574 comments As soon as my audio of Ready Player One by Ernest Cline becomes available from my elibrary, I'll start that one. I'm excited to listen to it!

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments Finished The Hunters. I was a bit disappointed with that one.

I'm about 25% of the way through Ready Player One.

Ok I have about 15 minutes left of the audiobook for Etiquette & Espionage Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1) by Gail Carriger and am finding it very fun so far. I am about 1/4 of the way into the audio for Whale Talk Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher which Wendy F recommended to me and like it so far and last but not least I am about 3/4th of the way through the audio for Delirium Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver . I am liking it more than I expected so far (likely with help from the awesome Sarah Drew) --- here is my dilemma should I just finish it and leave the series there or go onto book 2??? I noticed a lot of my GR friends were not happy with book 3 so I am wondering if I should just leave it after book 1? I also saw from the reviews of book 2 that a love triangle is introduced and I hate those! Any thoughts from others who have read them and know how picky I am?? Help!

message 4675: by Gwennie (new)

I just wanted to say, I can't wait for your review of Whale Talk. :)

I'm glad you're enjoying Delirium! I liked that one too. I liked Pandemonium also (the love triangle isn't really introduced until like, the very last page ... it's kind of complicated to explain). I thought it was pretty good. I haven't read Requiem yet, though, and like you I've also seen that a lot of people are disappointed in it. I'll probably read it anyways. >.<

Last night I finished:

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

YAY! I liked it a lot, and the ending was very sweet. :)

Now I'm moving on to:

The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness

Wheeeee so excited!

I also downloaded all of Andrew Lang's fairytale collections yesterday ... I had a couple of the books when I was a kid and loved them, and I discovered they're free for Kindle! And I'm doing an art project that involves fairytales, so I'm also reading for inspiration:

The Blue Fairy Book by Andrew Lang

So far Delirium is much better than I expected. I am listening to the audiobook and I have a girl crush on the narrator Sarah Drew so I kind of wonder if she is making me like the book even more than I would in print. There are parts that I am not 100% in love with (no pun intended) but having read several less than stellar dystopian books in the last year I would say it is one of the better ones (at least unless the ending ticks me off :)
