It is in your tbr pile Lloyd! Come on! I see you have also not read The Help which is another 5 star book for me (I think I have under 10 5 star books). Knowing your tastes somewhat from your tbr pile I recommend Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, #1) by Lian Hearn and Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles #1) by Melina Marchetta

Lloyd | 110 comments So...how much are these recommendations going to cost me? :)

I've been meaning to read Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, #1) by Lian Hearn for some time. My reading tastes tend to jump all over the place and it depends on what I'm in the mood for.

Thanks for the ideas though everyone! I really appreciate it.

I listened to that one on audio and can not bring myself to get the others in the series for some reason. They are so long and I guess everyone you love dies (or that could be rumor) so I just can't do it!

I believe she got an ARC. It looks like it'll be released in April. And you are never as far behind as I am, Heidi. I haven't read any of David's books YET.

Heidi, you got me addicted to audiobooks! I don't have much time to listen as I don't commute, but when I do, I almost never just listen to the radio or music anymore if I'm doing anything around the house. I always turn my book on!

I'm about to start Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater

message 4469: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 110 comments I notice a LOT of audiobook listeners here. I just still can't do it. My brain just doesn't work that way. I can listen to music no problem, but I've tried audiobooks and just wind up drifting or thinking about other things and too often have to rewind to cover parts I missed. I like to really immerse myself into the writing and story and just can't get that from an audio book.

I finished up A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2) by Beth Revis during lunch today. Was kind of drifting a bit towards the end, but then the ending left me wanting to immediately pick up the next book! (I'm not sure if I'm going to do that though. I might start it, but I can't usually read several books of the same series in a row. I like to space them out.)

So...I'll either re-continue with The Wise Man's Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #2) by Patrick Rothfuss , or maybe just find something else completely different. Maybe chip away some more with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak . (Which hasn't hooked me yet.) :)

Or maybe I'll just be restless again and not be able to concentrate on anything.

Got to visit an endocrinologist Tuesday about that weird benign tumor on my pituitary and she drew blood and said it might be a week for results and scheduled a follow up appointment for July. Turns out they called back today and I need to call them back for an appointment right away. It can't wait until July. That doesn't bode well, but I'm hoping to just get whatever is wrong fixed. (I'm now suspecting something involving the thyroid, since that was something she was going to test)

Maybe it'll help explain my depression (though I consider it a lack of enthusiasm) for the past several years.

message 4470: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Wow Lloyd - hope the visit goes well and you sort out whatever it is. Thyroid has a huge impact on so many of the body systems.

Lloyd the Book Thief did not hook me until I met Max -- it took a good 1/4 to 1/2 of the book before I loved it.

I am crossing my fingers for you about your medical tests. As a former cancer survivor I know how waiting to know what is going on is the worst part sometimes.

message 4474: by Lloyd (last edited Mar 14, 2013 01:44PM) (new)

Lloyd | 110 comments Thanks everyone. Have to go tomorrow at 2pm. Dr. won't talk to me unless I'm there. Receptionist said it's too complicated to explain over the phone, which to me means "We can't charge your insurance and get your $20 co-pay unless you're here, so..." Plus she tells me they want to start me on medication. Anyhow, cynicism aside...tomorrow at 2pm.

Meanwhile, I'll keep chipping away at The Book Thief. It's well written, but just hasn't hooked me yet. (I hear nothing but good things about it.)

Also, I started re-watching the new Battlestar Galactica last night. (I rarely watch television any more) I'd watched through the 1st season when my son was first born and never got back to it. Now that it's on Netflix streaming...figured I'd start all over. All I can say after staying up too late watching the first part of the mini-series is: Wow. THAT is how to write a show! Good, good, good stuff! Even better than the first time I watched it.

Ohh ohh ohh Lloyd! Are you talking about the more recent Battlestar? I am so fraking excited if you are! No one one here (GR) will listen to me and watch it! Loved every minute of it (well until mid way through the 4th season at least before it kind of went off the rails). It is more of a drama than a sci fi show but no one will listen to me!

I really haven't decided about it yet. It is intriguing so far but I am afraid the premise will wear thin by the end kind of like with Before I Fall. By the last day in Before I Fall I was like "is it over yet?"

Heidi, I'm happy to listen to you! I love Sci-Fi drama series. Sadly, we can't get Netflix here in Kenya (so instead, we resort to pirating - I know, bad bad bad but we don't have too many options...). I'll have to see if we can get the series here.

Lloyd | 110 comments I was too tired to start watching the official first episode last night, but maybe I'll do that in a few minutes.

Haven't decided on what book to read next, so figured I'd give some comics a try again. Haven't much liked the really new stuff, so I'm going for slightly older. Give me some time to decide what type of book I'm in the mood for.

Doctor's went okay. Still not sure why they had to call me in so I could fork over another $20 co-pay to have her explain it to me. Now the drug she wants me to take is so old or whatever that no pharmacy has it on hand and has to special order it. (That's comforting!)

I'll get around to taking that in today. For now, I have some RARE quiet time to myself. Just reading some comics, playing some mindless games. Next...I might take a nice shower and then catch an episode of BSG!
