Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I just finished Slathbog's Gold and The Mark of Athena. Now I'm getting into Finnikin of the Rock. It looks like this one may be a bit darker than the other ones I just read. I'll have to be ready for an emotional roller coaster ride.

Coming up next is The Great Gatsby and The Night Circus.

So excited for your thoughts on Finnikin! I know I am pretty shy about my love of Melina but I kind of like her :)

Okay I am trying to catch up on all the comments for the past few weeks so....

David I am with the others in that I LOVED Chaos Walking. Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking, #3) by Patrick Ness is very likely my favorite book of all time (I don't know if I'm ready to commit yet).

ALSO.....I just finished and absolutely loved The Moon Dwellers (The Dwellers, #1) by David Estes . So refreshing after being in a reading funk for a few months!!! Currently reading The Star Dwellers (The Dwellers, #2) by David Estes .

Heidi I realize I STILL have your books :/ I think I'm going to send them back without finishing Froi. I can't get into it because I just can't seem to remember the characters.

This is why I'm reading it!! :) Kept putting it off for one reason or the other. So glad I'm reading now. It's really intriguing!

I don't need it back Kournti because I won't be re-reading it for years (if I even do) so if you think you will read it anytime in the future just keep it. It took me about 1/2 of Froi to faintly remember anything of Finnikin and then 1/2 of Quintana before I remembered anything from Froi! I wish I read them all back to back instead of one per year!

Omg we are so book best friends when it comes to Chaos Walking. I'm so addicted that it's becoming a distraction from getting Fire Country finished! Oh and thanks again Kourtni for the shout out and support, it means the world to me :)

Aww thank you :)

Yes, we are LOVING it. It's so nice to spend every day with Adele even though most of the day I'm lost in one of the worlds I'm creating lol! We are 7 months into our 2 year trip and are currently in Tulum, Mexico :) We have a month here and then back to the U.S. to visit family before heading to St. Lucia in the Caribbean. Then it's on to Africa, Europe and Asia! It's definitely the trip (and opportunity) of a lifetime :)

That sounds wonderful David! My hubby and I were together for 4 days last week when I was sick and he was on vacation and we about murdered each other from the togetherness! I don't think we could do what you and Adele are doing but I envy your ability to do it! :)

message 3666: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) LOL, Heidi! Then again, you were sick.

David, I hope you're keeping notes of your trip - that might be a book worth writing one day. And if by any chance you stop off in Kenya, please let me know! Would love to meet you.

@Heidi - Alright I will keep it a little while. I graduate in 15 weeks (not that I'm counting or anything) and plan to read ALOT of what I want to read :)!!

Last night I finished:

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

... Which was really good.

I also started:

Falling (Hemlock Bay, #1) by Amber Jaeger

And I'm also in the middle of:

The Shadow Club (Shadow Club, #1) by Neal Shusterman

Not my favorite of Neal Shusterman's, but it's still pretty a'ight.

Karen’s Library | 574 comments @ Heidi.. You guys are why I read Chaos! I remember I kept getting recommendations from GR and my Nook to read Knife. I kept thinking the software was broken, why would I read a book called The Knife of Never Letting Go? Hahah... Once I got in this group and saw all the Chaos pushers, I gave in! Sooooo incredible. Now I pay attention to everything this group recommends! I've found so many amazing authors and books, including Moon Dwellers, David. From THIS group! ;-)

Lloyd | 110 comments Kourtni - I've been in a reading funk lately too. I'm currently reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn at my wife's request. It's not bad, but I'm already starting to get a little bored. I think I'm just in a funk in general. I'm also picking away through a couple other books. Just keep looking for the one that hooks me. For now...Gone Girl because my wife says "it's good!". (She also reads about 4 or so books a week, while I'm lucky to get one a month)

message 3681: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Ok, so I FINALLY wrote blurbs for all my December reads. Yikes, it's a lot of work staying offline for so long!

Zombie Candy (Annie Ogden, #2) by Frederick Lee Brooke - 3 stars, woman uses a bizarre way to exact revenge on cheating husband

Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life by Diana Estill - 5 stars, brilliantly funny, here's my review on it: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Save My Soul by K.S. Haigwood - 4 star, fun read, not what I expected

Breathless (The Blue Fire Saga, #1) by Scott Prussing - 3 star

Christmas Lites II by Amy Eye - 5 star, don't wait for Christmas to read it!

Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne - 4 star, I think I heard too much hype about it before reading it

Winter Omens (The Last Year, #2) by Trisha Leigh - 5 star, love this series!!!

The Forbidden Trilogy by Kimberly Kinrade - 5 star, great if you like X-Men sort of thing

The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus, #3) by Rick Riordan - 4 star, good but not the best one

Howl of the Wolf by Diane Rapp - 3 star

Lloyd - I don't know what the deal is! For the past few years (excluding last year) I have had no trouble finding 5 star books. Maybe its my own fault for not researching my reads better. I really don't know. I'm hoping The Moon Dwellers series pulls me out of this funk. I would hate to finish the series and go right back into my funk. Hi Lloyd *waves* sorry for your reading funk. I get those myself sometimes. If it weren't for audiobooks my amount of books read would be a lot lower. I have been reluctant to read Gone Girl because it seeems like a love it or hate it type book and those are generally bad news for me.

Finished:

Falling (Hemlock Bay, #1) by Amber Jaeger

It was ... eh. Cool premise––but too much insta-love, too much slut-shaming, and the pacing was really weird especially towards the end. So, I don't think I'll continue with the series.

Now starting:

UnWholly (Unwind, #2) by Neal Shusterman

AT LAST! I'm so excited. :)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments Just finished Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles #1) by Melina Marchetta . Definitely more raw than the usual YA fantasy book. And so grateful there wasn't a love triangle. It was a really good book and I'm still pondering it.

Vered (vered_ehsani) Heidi - yup, I had much higher expectations for Hounded.

Brigid - I detest insta-love stories. I've started doing serious eye rolling at all the sappy romance stuff that plagues YA. Although on the plus side, eye rolling is really good for strengthening eye muscles - I'm 41 and still don't have to wear glasses. Just saying.
