I am really tempted to by my 13 year old nephew Rot & Ruin for Christmas! Either that or Chaos Walking. He is an avid reader. It is so nice to have books I have loved that I can share with my niece and nephew :)

What a great idea! My nephew (6th grader) likes to read. I'm thinking Rot & Ruin might be a little too old for him but maybe not.
I'm currently reading
.
David - YAY! You're going to love it!

I'm taking a brief break from YA and reading
. I'm heading to the library today and maybe I'll spot something that I just HAVE to read. I also enjoyed Graceling but have not read the sequels yet. Hmmm, I've been meaning to read
. Maybe that'll be next.

I think Rot & Ruin is pretty clean even though it is about zombies. Is he a mature 6th grader? If so, I think it would be safe. Anyone else agree?

I know he read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books last year. He's not a mature 6th grader but he's not immature either. I haven't read the rest of the series so not really sure what happens after the first book.

Ahhh that book is awesome! Glad you're enjoying it. :)

They're a bit violent (I mean, they are about zombies) but I don't think there's anything very objectionable in them other than that ... But yeah, I think it's appropriate for a sixth-grader. I don't think it's any more violent than The Maze Runner.

Thanks! I think I'll give him Rot & Ruin with $20 in it.
That's what I do every year, Shannen. Books with money hidden in the pages. The 13 year old actually came over and borrowed the sequels to The Maze Runner. I'm excited to see if they read and like Rot&Ruin. :-)
Karen - My boys weren't really readers but my nephew is. I'm so excited to do this for him!
Shannen wrote: "Karen - My boys weren't really readers but my nephew is. I'm so excited to do this for him!"Actually, the nephews aren't big readers either so when they borrowed the sequels to The Maze Runner, I jumped at the chance to see if I could find more to entice them. ;-). They also read
and liked that one, so I've been looking for any YA's that teen boys would enjoy! If anyone has any other books to recommend, I'd love to hear about it!

Oh Bluemoon! A life without books is no life at all (just kidding!). We all go through our reading slumps! I have faith you will return to us!

Me too - the first book sounds good :-)
And Heidi, Bright Young Things is pretty good, but not as interesting as the Luxe series. The 1920's time period is cool, though! I'm just not feeling as strong a connection as I did with the Luxe characters :-)

Thanks! I got it as a Kindle deal a long time ago but have yet to read it.

This isn't exactly YA (although some of the stories are), but I recommend
. Am still working through it. It's a collection of short stories, and all proceeds go to a charity helping victims of domestic violence. Some of the stories are brilliant (ninja elves, anyone?!)

YES, those are so good Heidi. I think you'd like them. :)

HOORAY! I need to re-read that ...
Anyway, this morning I finished:
So good! Definitely my favorite Maggie Stiefvater book now. :)
And now after taking like a month-long break from it, I'm finally back to reading:

I hope to see the Hobbit next week Brigid! I am still reading Wonder slowly because I have a ton of my cozies to finish before the end of the year (personal goal). I am nearly done with the latest Bloody Jack audiobook as well.
We are going to see The Hobbit this weekend. I haven't watched any of the other movies or read any of the books. My sis asked if we wanted to go see it on a double date so I'm taking one for the team. Haha!

She said the movie was boring.
My husband saw The Hobbit and said that they added a lot of stuff from
, in case you wanted to add that to your TBR pile.

Well boo! It looks like per some of the reviews it is too long - the actual book wasn't as long as the LOTR books so that might be the problem. If so I would still highly recommend LOTR. I loved all three movies (the last one could have been shortened though).

I'm about to start re-reading
since it's been years since I last read it. I would read it once a year for years in my teens through 30's. I want to see the movie this weekend if I have time! Can't wait!
I'm seeing it tomorrow so I need to finish re-reading. AAHHH.
So, today I read:

I guess I need to read Flesh & Bone in print. I PM'd the author and he told me there is a hold up on the audiobook for it because a scheduling conflict with the narrator so there is no release date known yet for the audiobook. Boo! I liked the narration for that series.
Finished
. I don't believe I'm going to continue this series. I only kept reading because I wanted to know what was going to happen to the characters but it seems it is never going to end!! And I was annoyed with most of them before the end of the book. Never a good sign.Started
. Great so far!
Kourtni - I hate it when I feel that way about a series. I am still liking that series so I'll see it through to the end. Yay for Moon Dwellers!

Ooh yay, Dust & Decay! :D Coincidentally, yesterday I finished:
Not my favorite of the series so far, but it was still good. :)

Brigid - Is Flesh and Bone the last book? I really liked Hollowland and thought it might be her best writing yet. But the second book got blah reviews so I haven't read it.

Nope. I think it's a 5-book series, but I could be wrong. But the third one is definitely not the last.
Hollowland is all right so far. I'm not a huge fan of the writing; I find it kind of amateur. But, I'm hoping at least the plot gets better as it goes along. ... It's also kind of hard to read another zombie book after a Benny Imura book since those are some of the best zombie books out there IMHO, and it's difficult not to draw comparisons. :P

Kourtni - Yay! Love Benny and Tom!
Brigid - Good to hear that there are going to be more than three books. Yes, Benny Imura is hard to beat! You probably should have waited a while before reading Hollowland. It was the first zombie book I read. Amanda Hocking started out as a self-published author and may still be. Definitely not the same quality as Jon Maberry. ;)

What are you thoughts on Easy, Heidi?

Hmm probably. Oh well.
Yeah, I know about Amanda Hocking's whole success story; she was ultimately picked up by St. Martin's Press, I believe. So, some of her books are now traditionally published I think but she got famous through self-pubbing.

I am on part 5 out of 8 and am enjoying it so far. I will return with my final thoughts :)
