David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments I so want to read Raven Boys, I've been obsessed with Stiefvater ever since The Scorpio Races :)

Joy | 2 comments David wrote: "I so want to read Raven Boys, I've been obsessed with Stiefvater ever since The Scorpio Races :)"

It is way different though than The Scorpio Races. More "romancey" if that could be called a word.

message 3453: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments LOL, I don't mind a bit of romance! I loved Shiver too, as well as the second in her Fae series (although I wasn't thrilled with the first one). I can't remember which I liked better, Ballad or the other one. But I always love her style of writing!

message 3454: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments And I'd say romancey is a word LOL. Writers make up words all the time :)

message 3455: by Joy (new)

Joy | 2 comments I actually did like it more than Shiver though.

message 3456: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Ooh cool, that really makes me want to read it :)

message 3457: by Charmaine (new)

Charmaine (empress_charla) | 143 comments I've only read Scorpio Races, but like it enough to read more from that author. :-) Hopefully during winter break I can finally start reading Shiver!

I've heard a lot of buzz about that book. It's at the library, but I haven't looked into reading it yet."

I can't, because a) my mom was actually the one who got it from the library, and b) it has like a million holds on it so it's not renewable. >.<

Anyway ... I love The Raven Boys so far! It's very different from her other books but it's super cool. :)

That one was my least favorite in the series. Graceling will always have my heart. Either way though she is an awesome writer!

message 3463: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Really? I LOVED Graceling, enjoyed Fire but not nearly as much, and an really enjoying Bitterblue so far (25% in). Something about Bitterblue is just really likeable. She's funny too! Lol

message 3464: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yeah Bitterblue was just all about politics and had a lot less action. If you like political intrigue Bitterblue is for you. Either way like I said she is an awesome author! Have you read the Lumatere series? If you like Graceling I think you would love it. The first book is Finnikin of the Rock Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles #1) by Melina Marchetta . I will be honest and say that Melina is my FAVORITE YA author. I love love love her.

message 3465: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Oh wow, never heard of it but if you say it's good it must be. I'll definitely check it out!! Thanks for the rec Heidi :)

message 3466: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
*Squee* I hope you like it. Melina sets the bar pretty high for me (as does Patrick Ness).

message 3467: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Lol! I'm sure I will!

I was not a fan of Beautiful Creatures. It seems like people either really loved it or were disappointed by it. I didn't hate it unlike some other YA paranormal out there but I stopped with the series after book one.

Just started Everybody Sees the Ants Everybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King on audio and Quintana of Charyn Quintana of Charyn (Lumatere Chronicles, #3) by Melina Marchetta in print.

I also wanted to add that I really liked JK Rowling's The Casual Vacancy. As a person who works with people who struggle with addiction I thought it was an honest portrayal of the subject.

Just picked up The Raven Boys (Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater from the library today! So excited to read it. I love Maggie.

Clare - I liked Beautiful Creatures and am excited for the movie.

David - You will not be disappointed with those recommendations. All excellent!

Just a reminder that our December group read is Wonder Wonder by R.J. Palacio . It was my pick so I hope it is good! I already have it loaded onto my Kindle so I will update when I start it.

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I just finished The Hound of Rowan (The Tapestry, #1) by Henry H. Neff and the Dark is Rising Series The Dark Is Rising (The Dark Is Rising, #2) by Susan Cooper .

I just picked up Wonder by R.J. Palacio from the library yesterday but need to finish Charlie Bone and the Invisible Boy (The Children of the Red King, #3) by Jenny Nimmo first. I also want to read more Maggie Stiefvater. Hoping to have time soon.

I've been meaning to get to ALL of those books (though I've already read and sobbed over The Fault in Our Stars). One of these days... :)

message 3496: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I would say that the Dark is Rising is middle school. It does get a bit complicated with some time travel and other strange traveling going on that I'm not sure the younger middle schooler would follow. The second and fourth books were Newbery Honor & Award winners and are very well written.
