Lloyd - That's scary and frustrating. We have Kaiser and always joke that they never make you fully well because they want you to come back and pay another co-payment. ;) I agree with Peep that a lot of places are good about payment arrangements.

What is all this talk about adopting teenagers? Are you all crazy?! Teenagers are full size toddlers who think they are adults. Actually, I really like teenagers but raising them is a whole different thing. You get sleepless nights with babies or teenagers, just for different reasons.

Yeah Shannen I will stay an auntie! There is no good age except maybe 10-11??

message 3403: by [deleted user] (new)

I think there's several good ages...5-9 months, 4 years, 8-11 years and then maybe 19 years and up. Haha!

message 3404: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) The perks of adopting an older kid is you can just pick the quiet/good one! There is a family in our town that has three teens, and last year they adopted a teen (16 year old boy). When he came home they would introduce him and say, "yep, he's ours". He's a good kid, too.

Heidi 10 is a good age, 7 would be good as well.

To stay sort of on topic, I finished Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee and liked it ok. Some unbelievable coinkydinks if you ask me. I'd like to read the sequel. I'm afraid that by the time it comes out I will have forgotten about what happened in the first book.

Is anyone picking up Quintana of Charyn (Lumatere Chronicles, #3) by Melina Marchetta ? I think I might pay the premium for the ebook.

message 3405: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Peep & Shannen you are cracking me up!

Peep I thought you would love Angelfall. Hmmm... I got Quintana from a fellow GR pal but have not started it yet. I think Brittany mentioned she would be willing to let some others borrow her copy (not to volunteer her??!!) I would be happy to check with her to see if she would be good with sending you her copy just let me know.

Lloyd | 110 comments Thanks for the thoughts everyone. My doctor was surprised how well I took my hearing loss. Me...I can't ever get it back, so what's the use of carrying on about it? It's only struck me every once in awhile when listening to a particular song and just have parts missing in that left ear. Sad to know I'll never hear it the same way again, yet glad I had my hearing for many years to even know what I was missing in the first place. :P

(I'm always trying to look on the bright side, despite what my wife might think)

As for the payments...yeah, they've been working with me. My problem is: I'm already up to my eyeballs in payments. I really don't want more debt of any kind.

Ultimately, I'm never going to know what happened to my hearing. It's being written off as "Probably a virus".

David...I'm sure you can add me to the list of people buying your book. The only reason I haven't yet is because of the backlog of titles I keep trying to get to! You know the deal, so many books, so little time.

As for everyone and kid-bashing...I understand. It's one of those things that, until you are a parent, you don't really understand. But there is NOTHING...and I mean NOTHING...to compare to the unconditional love you get from your child(ren). My son is practicing math all the time, so this morning I jokingly said, "Okay, what does Daddy plus Logan equal?" His answer? "Love." (Which is totally correct!) Just awesome. Best thing that ever happened to me.

I'm still working on The Mark of Athena. But, yesterday I also started:

We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

It's for a class ... sounds interesting, but I'm not too far into it yet. I've only read the introduction. :P

message 3408: by [deleted user] (new)

Lloyd - I am a mother of two boys (19 and 23) and even though they are a lot of work, I love them more than anything in this world. Their teenage years were quite challenging (extremely challenging with my 23 year old--he is still a constant worry for us) and that alone is why I make jokes about being childless. My husband and I have joked for a long time now that if we knew how difficult it was going to be, we would have just raised dogs. ;)

Lloyd | 110 comments Damn. I'm trying so hard, but the reading ADHD is kicking back in. I was enjoying the present-day portions of the book, but the flash-backs are kinda...draggin'. I'm trying to plow forward, but I find myself wondering...maybe something else won't seem to drag so much?

Sigh. Maybe I just need to take a break from reading for awhile.

Happens to the best of us Lloyd. I have been reading almost all cozies the last 2 months because they don't require a lot of attention.

Karen’s Library | 574 comments Halfway through Blood Red Road (Dust Lands, #1) by Moira Young and wasn't sure if I'd like it or not. The writing was hard to get into. But the story is really good now and I think I'm into the book enough that I'm not noticing the way it's written any longer.

I haven't but I saw you guys talking about it and it piqued my interest. Is it adult or YA? I tend to only like YA dystopian. Thanks for the suggestion!!

Aww thanks!!! I can't wait to put the rest of the series to the Heidi test ;) To me though, you're not overly critical, just fair and constructive. I've recently released an updated edition of The Moon Dwellers based on early reviews like yours. So thanks, your feedback really helps!!

Awesome!! Lets do it! Did you want to read UnStrung (Unwind, #1.5) by Neal Shusterman first or have you already read it? Or we can dive right into UnWholly :)

I have convinced my hubby to read Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and am so excited! He normally doesn't read this type of a book but it is so good that I think he needs to read it. I told him it was about two different guys named Will Grayson but apparently I didn't make it clear that each chapter is a different Will Grayson so he was confused.

Finished:

The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus, #3) by Rick Riordan

And I am now reading:

The Raven Boys (Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

... However, I think it's due at the library today and I've only read like 50 pages. Uh oh. x_x
