It took me about 150 pages but I ended up liking Scorpio Races.

I'll tell you what I am NOT currently reading...
!! I would rather poke myself in the eye repeatedly than finish reading this book.
KOURTNI: I wouldn't touch that book with a 10 foot pole! Ugh...I've read some reviews and no thanks. I like kick-butt MC's not "you hit me but let me still luuuuurvv you!" gah....whatever. Currently reading:
Alright, Cat is the queen of witches! goodness, I'm only 10% in and she's so manipulative and just gah....but I am liking the story XD hahaha we'll see.
Hahaha me too Mackenzie. I just knew I was going to hate it, but I was curious. Ah well, its too late now. I will never get those 65 pages of book reading time back.
I'll admit that when I first saw this book on the blogosphere I was interested. It got all this publicity and awesome reviews and was even recommended to me on Amazon (though I really have no idea how!) But then I started reading other review that were just like "kill me noooooowwww" and so I got really wary and read some reviews from people I trust and decided it was not for me. I feel like most people either fall in love with this book, or absolutely despise it. I feel as if there is no in-between so I don't even feel like wasting my time. There are far too many other books that I really want to read (I'm so behind on all my Netgalley books!) that I don't want to waste my time :P

Why is that book so popular? Haven't these women heard of Erotica??

Peep (Pop! Pop!) wrote: "Hey Kourtni, if I'm reading right you enjoyed Insurgent? Did you like Divergent as well?"Hey Peep! Long time no see! I enjoyed Insurgent and Divergent. I know lots of you had issues with Divergent and I read and tried to understand said issues, but I didn't see anything major that bothered me. So the answer to your question is yes!
Kourtni wrote: " I enjoyed Insurgent and Divergent. I know lots of you..."Hi Kourtni! I'm trying to stop slacking, haha. Thanks for clearing that up. I need to hear from someone who "loved" Divergent as much as I did. So far with Insurgent I am so-so with it.
Bluemoon wrote: "a-ok! How's life Peep?"
It's good now that Spring is here! Thanks!

Ugh! I am so on the fence on this one. Peep is my savior! She is reading it so I may not have to. Hey Peep tell Kourtni how great Top Gear BBC is. I bought season 18 episode 1 on Amazon On Demand but we haven't watched it yet.

I'm reading Insurgent right now ... and well, so far I think it's just okay. I'm more than 200 pages in, and only one really major event has happened, I'd say. I mean, Divergent had a somewhat slow pace but at least it kept me interested. Insurgent has mostly seemed to consist of the characters sitting around and waiting for something to happen, while Tris endlessly beats herself up about how she (view spoiler) at the end of the first book. I mean, I understand she feels guilty ... but could she shut up about it just a little bit? :P
Anyway, there are a lot of other disappointing things about it. Like, I was hoping there would be more world-building, but thus far there has been no effort on that front. I still have no idea what the world is like outside of this society Veronica Roth has created, or the details of how it came to be, etc. I was also hoping that Tobias/Four would be developed more, but at this point he's kind of lost that "mysterious" appeal and now he just seems annoying.
*Sigh* Well, I have more than 300 pages left, but that's my feelings so far. :-/ Heidi, I'm pretty sure you would hate it ... lol.

Everyone seemed to love Four in Divergent and I just didn't get it. He seemed like your average Edward type character to me -- but then again I am not into that type of guy so that may have been my thing. Please let me know if there is anymore world building towards the end because that was my #1 issue with the first book Brigid and I will only read Insurgent if there are more answers than questions.
Heidi wrote: "Kourtni wrote: "Ha! I imagine someone who didn't love Divergent wouldn't love Insurgent either..."Ugh! I am so on the fence on this one. Peep is my savior! She is reading it so I may not have ..."
18 seasons?! Woh!
As you get further into the book a lot of those things are addressed Brigid. (The world outside the society and Tobias is developed a little more). As for the thing that happened at the end of book one, well, that would probably mess a lot of us up. Although she could let up a little bit about it. We get the point, shes got issues. She can still have those issues, just don't talk about it every 5 pages.
Kourtni, you have to watch Top Gear! It's soooo funny! Trust us.As for Tris, I don't know what to believe with that girl! (view spoiler) Aside from that, I don't think Insurgent is all that bad so far...

Haha, well I don't mind brooding male leads, so long as they have a good reason to be that way, and they don't come off as being a total creep or anything ... I liked Four in Divergent because I was intrigued by him and wanted to know more about what his whole deal is. But, so far he still seems to be withholding a lot of information and at this point it just seems like he's being a jerk. I mean, we know why he chose to be in Dauntless––and it's an interesting reason––but other than that, Veronica Roth hasn't revealed much about him and it's rather aggravating...

Hmm, good to know. I'll just shut my mouth and keep reading for now. XD
Yeah ... I understand that of course it was traumatizing for her, but as you said, she doesn't have to rant about it every five pages!

Seriously! (view spoiler)
No, it's not bad really. I just feel like the plot so far is a bit repetitive and not eventful enough.

Brigid we'll have to compare notes when we're done! How did you like Divergent?Victoria wrote: "GAH! I really need to read Divergent. I'm so tempted to click on all the spoiler tags!"
Don't click on them, they are huge spoilers!
Indeed. I've heard from a few other people that towards the end it gets a lot better even though the beginning is so slow ... so, I hope they're right. I liked Divergent ... I mean, it wasn't the greatest book in the world but I enjoyed it.
And yeah ... Victoria don't click on those spoilers! We were discussing the ending of the first book. :P

I just finished reading Divergent and I had the exact same thought. How lame!

. I'm blown away by this series!"Woo hoo! Always good to see people reading and enjoying this for the first time. I LOVE this series and plan to re-read it again soon. I will read all of Patrick Ness's work. Just a brilliant author.
Just finished
. Dang, the weekend is over... I need one more day to finish this series! If nothing else, I'll get in a few chapters of
tonight. I'm almost happy I discovered the Chaos Walking series AFTER the entire trilogy was published. I can't imagine having to wait a year or more to find out what happens next!
Yay! Another Chaos lover!!! Let me tell you Karen, the wait was awful! Especially with those cliff hanger endings!
Just finished
and actually loved it! Hope to put up a review soon :)Currently reading:
and its actually pretty intriguing.
Karen glad you are loving Chaos Walking - that long wait for the 3rd book was very hard for me! I also highly recommend A Monster Calls
. I listened to the audio and loved it!

Hahaha I can't even imagine. I read the second book right after it came out, and I remember getting to the end of the second book and just throwing it across the room––I was so angry I had to wait a year for the next book with an ending like that! lol.

Too funny, Brigid! I think I may have done the same, though! Thanks for the recommendation, Heidi... I'll add
to TBR stack! :-)
Ooh yes, A Monster Calls is wonderful also. I just sat there and cried throughout the whole second half of the book...
I'm in! I wanna cry all over my Nook! Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! I've found some incredible new authors thanks to this group!
The audiobook for A Monster Calls is wonderful as well! It really is a great book. You can tell that Patrick Ness knows how to write. I loved it and think that everyone else should read (or listen!) to it. Sorry, I had to chime in with that.
Finally finished Insurgent ... As a whole, it was rather frustrating. But I think the ending provided a good setup for the next book. Since it actually started to hint at why this dystopian world exists and all. So yeah, I'll still be reading the third book even though the second one was rather tedious.
So, even though I have like five other things I'm reading right now, I also started this book because someone lent it to me:
The Glass Castle is one of my favorite books, so I have high expectations!

Brigid your thoughts on Insurgent don't bode well for me reading it. I will see what Peep thinks and then decide.

Yeah ... personally I think that if you didn't like the first book, you probably won't like the second one. While I liked the first book, I found this one rather hard to get through. It got interesting towards the end––and as I said, she started to explain some things. But otherwise, I found it mostly pretty frustrating and boring. Although, maybe that's just me and Peep will disagree. ;)
Thanks Heidi! I think I need my good pal Shannen to read Divergent so maybe I wont be all alone. I actually thought they were good books! But then again you three are probably the pickiest readers I've come in contact with!! Not that that's a bad thing ;)
Well, I still think they're good books. I really liked the first one. And I liked the second one over all, but there were a lot of things that irked me about it.
