message 201: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I didn't think I'd like Alice, but it was better than I thought it would be. Weird, but still actually really good. I thought everyone did a great job with their roles, esp the girl that played Alice.

Still have the theme song in my head. Go away!

message 203: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
p.s. I meant the theme song, not anyone here.

message 204: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I watched Alice and Wonderland and thought it was just okay. Maybe I had high expectations because I'm a Tim Burton-Johnny Depp fan.

Peep, let us know what you think of Rules of Attraction!

I just finished reading The Alleluia Files by Sharon Shinn last night. It's part of the Samaria series, where angels are featured. It's high fantasy but not YA.

Started Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1) by Simone Elkeles last night. Still listening to Golden Compass and the 4th Georgia Nicholson books.

Chachic No pressure though!

I am now reading Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder .

message 208: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Hope you like that, Heidi. I was a little disappointed with it though because I liked Poison Study better.

message 209: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
So far it is not as good as Poison Study. I'll let you know when I'm done :)

HAHA! You ladies just brought a smile to my face.
Bluemoon, don't feel so bad, I haven't even STARTED Unwind, and I found out today that the library I work at doesn't have Sabriel OR Knife... in right now. I'll have to go try the next town over.

message 211: by Chachic (new)

Chachic A.M.Y., aww too bad your library doesn't have either Sabriel or The Knife of Never Letting Go! I hope you can find copies in another library.

message 212: by Chachic (new)

Chachic By the way, I'm currently reading Demon's Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan.

The Demon's Covenant (The Demon's Lexicon Trilogy, #2) by Sarah Rees Brennan [image error]

message 213: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I just finished "Better Late Than Never" by Marilyn Kaye. I'm going to continue with "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan.

Magic Study is up next on my TBR list. Let me know what you think of it when you finish!

I finished Magic Study last night and did not like it as much as Poison Study (which I loved). It was slow in parts and seemed like a filler book to me, plus where was Valek? He was in this one, but not much, and he is the only reason I loved the first one!

message 216: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 732 comments Aww no! I loved Valek too! Crap! I was really looking forward to reading more Yelena/Valek interaction. I am bummered out...

Is it even worth reading?

message 217: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
It is worth reading Kourtni, but I want more Valek next time!

message 218: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 732 comments Alright, I guess I'll read it. LoL
But I'm not as excited as I was. :/

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 732 comments Haha it's okay! You're just telling it how you see it. I appreciate your opinion, that's why I ask!

message 221: by Laura (new)

Laura | 7 comments Magic and Fire Study weren't as good as Poison for me, either, but I still enjoyed them. I love the characters. I thought Fire Study started off very slowly and then eventually got better. And Valek is in it more! :)

And I'd recommend Ice Study when you're done. It's a follow-up short story that's actually pretty good. Only problem is that she's releasing sections at a time and it's not all out yet.

Sooo at the moment I am reading Fallen by Lauren Kate and Burned (House of Night #7) by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. I'm only on the first chapter of both of them though. Yay, I love my trash reads when I am stressed out. At least school is almost over. x_x I'm also reading How the García Girls Lost Their Accents for, like, the third time in a row––it's for my final English project. In fact, I should be working on that right now. XD

D: gaahhh. I am jealous. School is destroying my soul, as usual.

Yesss I have read some great books in school, too. This year I really liked Into the Wild, The Scarlet Letter, The Things They Carried, and The Great Gatsby. We also read Ethan Frome and Death of a Salesman which were okay, and The Awakening which I hated with a burning passion. :)

message 224: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Heidi, I didn't like Magic Study as much as I liked Poison Study too! That's why I never moved on to Fire Study.

message 225: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Oh wow, I can't even remember all of the books that we studied in high school. I do remember that we read the Iliad though because we had to do a class play about it. Also, Edith Hamilton's Mythology book. Hmm I'm thinking of creating a thread about books we've read in school

Hey now! The P & P version with Colin Firth is the best.

message 228: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I haven't watched that! I have a copy of it though. But I really want to watch North and South and I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

message 229: by Chachic (new)

Chachic They say that North and South is just like that and that you'll fall in love with Richard Armitage.

message 230: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Colin Firth is #1, but Yes you will also fall in love with Richard after North & South. I love both movies!!!!!

message 231: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Heidi, I'm so jealous that you've watched North & South! I've been hearing so many good things about it. Need to find a copy!

message 232: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Chachic North & South was free for me on Netflix, so I can watch it anytime I want. Sorry you don't have Netflix, where do you rent movies there? p.s. I also own the P & P DVD so I can also see Colin anytime! Bluemoon North & South is a period drama about a couple that meet during a turbulent time in England right before workers unions were formed. The female is a nice helpful woman and the man runs the mill and he is made of stone until she melts his heart.

I am listening to The Year Of Secret Assignments by Jaclyn Moriarty and Bloody Jack (Bloody Jack, #1) by L.A. Meyer on audiobook.

message 234: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Heidi, usually we buy our own copies of DVDs or download them off the internet.

message 235: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Oooh I have a copy of Bloody Jack but I haven't read it. Let us know what you think when you're done listening to it.

Review of Audrey, Wait! coming soon (mine though has the pink and yellow and orange cover)

Ooh … Audrey, Wait! was a cute book. I liked it.

Amelia | 38 comments Just finished Voices of Dragons and I'm sorry to say it was just kind of ... ehh.

Full review at my blog: http://challengingthebookworm.wordpre...

I was never really fully engaged with the characters. Great plot idea though.

message 242: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading Physik (Septimus Heap, #3) by Angie Sage last night. I am continuing with The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) by Rick Riordan and am determined to finish it today. I'm on chapter 25 of 41.

message 243: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I'm currently reading:

Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews

Just finished this last night:

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews

These aren't YA but I've heard great things about the series so I'm reading the books.

message 244: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Yep it's good, I really liked it. I posted a review of it here http://chachic.wordpress.com/2010/06/...

That was the strangest sentence ever. It is a good book, but you don't like it ????

message 246: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) by Rick Riordan the other night. I am now reading If I Stay by Gayle Forman . I should be able to finish it today...fast read.

I kind of had the same problem with Looking Glass Wars. They're good and creative, but I just didn't feel so … attached to them, I guess? I don't know. I thought Alyss was kind of a boring main character, maybe that's why. Also, Frank Beddor has this weird obsession with random "sound effects" in the middle of sentences. It's like "So they walked outside when––BAAAAAMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOWWWWWEEEEEEEEEAAAAA!" And I'd be like "What? What sound is that even supposed to BE?"

Anyway … Ooh, I love The Red Pyramid, although I think I already said that. So excited for that spin-off Percy Jackson series coming out in October––I read the beginning online and it was awesommmeeee!

As for what I'm reading, I finished First Truth by Dawn Cook this morning. Not the kind of thing I'd pick up normally, since it was epic fantasy which I'm not really into, but my friend recommended it to me and I liked it okay. Now I'm about halfway through Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles which is pretty good …

Brigid Leaving Paradise was pretty good, although the author was totally wrong on a lot of legal aspects of the book, which I have too much knowledge of due to my job. I did not like her other book Perfect Chemistry though. Ugh!

message 249: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. Anyway, I like the concept/premise of the book but not so much the writing or characters. It's interesting, though.

message 250: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) Bluemoon wrote: "ASHLEY: hows the Red Pyramid? I ordered this book along with other ones I received today, but for some reason didn't get this one."

I finished The Red Pyramid and it was awesome. It was non-stop action until the end...a continuous chase and fight until the end. I enjoyed very much and can't wait unti the next book comes out.
