Peep wrote: "*loses an eye*"

Ha! I just totally got a flash of Christmas Story, "You'll shoot your eye out".

message 152: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 38 comments My mom doesn't read HP, she just watches the movies, and someone was over last year and we were talking Harry Potter and she mentioned who dies (DON'T SAY IT, Peep hasn't read it yet!) in book six.

My mom went beserk. "What?!"
The girl looks at her "You didn't know?!"
My mom: "NOOOOOO!"
The girl: "Oh"..... "sorry"

It was hillarious to watch, but my mother was devastated.

message 153: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I was watching the sixth movie in the theater and I was sitting beside a friend, when it ended, she turned to me and said "That's it? *insert dead person's name here* is really dead? He/She won't magically come back to life?"

message 154: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Oh no worries. I am almost positive I remember who died. I think I mentioned his name earlier??

message 155: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Oh really? I didn't notice that! Can you give us a hint on who you think will die? Although maybe there are other people here who haven't read HP.

message 156: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I am not going to be shunned for this, right? I've only seen the movies and don't have the best movie but wasn't it his godfather, or Sirius Black? Or somebody that was equally important. It was with all those creepy people.

message 157: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Peep, that was in book five! But yes, he did pass away. It took some time for me to get over that because I really liked Sirius Black. I was sad that he died. :(

message 158: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) Oh that really ticked me off when sirius died. Its like finally harry gets some family and the author goes and takes that away from him.

message 159: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I agree with what Ashley said!

message 160: by Amy (last edited Jun 01, 2010 09:43PM) (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) WOW Peep I envy you! I wish I could wipe my memory and re-read them!

And Chachic: I really disliked Holly Black's faerie books as well! Bad characters and writing and everything... but so far White Cat seems to be much better. There's not a lot of action so far (I'm on page 110 or so) but somehow or another it's still very appealing to me and I'm very interested in reading more of it.

message 161: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Really? That's good! I'm hoping that White Cat is better than her other books because I feed bad that I didn't like it when so many others did.

Brigid, how was Inside Out compared to the Study series?"

Well, I haven't read the entirety of the Study series––only Poison Study. I think I liked Inside Out slightly more than Poison Study, though.

I … uh … have not read all the HP books, either, for the record. I tried when I was, like, 10 and gave up after two and a half books. O_o For some reason they just didn't appeal to me. People keep telling me to give them another shot, but at this point I've been forced to watch all the movies (which I didn't like, either) and a lot has already been spoiled for me just by hearing people constantly talk about it. Plus, the hype just annoys me. Maybe when it's died down a little … or a lot …

I wouldn't recommend it, but a well placed knock on your head could likely erase your memory, but you'd have to learn how to read again too. Don't know if it's worth it... :P

Too many spoilers! Must stop the spoilers! p.s. Brigid the hype is very much worth it for HP IMHO :)

Hahaha! How's it going with the HP read, Peep?

Brigid, I'd have to agree with Heidi that HP is worth all the hype. My favorite is book three.

Now the hype for Twilight is another matter! Again, IMHO.

Heidi wrote: "Now the hype for Twilight is another matter! Again, IMHO."

Stop that! :P

HP got my oldest son to read and discover that he enjoys reading. Twilight got my youngest son to actually read a book for pleasure.

Ha! I sure know how to get a rise out of Shannen ;)

message 170: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL! You know I love all the Twilight hype. Bring it on!

HAHA no thank you; I'm envious but certainly not to that extreme -__-

message 172: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Read HP and really liked it. Yeah good side! Boo dark side!

I'm reading Infinity now.

message 173: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Yay, glad you liked it, Peep! Hope you'll continue to read the other books in the series.

message 174: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 14 comments Sorry, but Twilight rocks my socks!! :p

message 175: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Can someone explain (without bashing, please) why people compare this to Twilight? They have nothing in common, except I think they mentioned werewolves. I must have missed something.

message 176: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I think they're just being compared because both series were hugely popular and they both fall under the fantasy genre.

message 177: by Amy (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) Yeup, what Chachic said. These are the two most well-known YA series ever, so people tend to compare... Harry Potter is so much more extraordinary and well-crafted though :)

Peep, how is Infinity so far? I'm thinking of buying it maybe!

message 179: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Amy it's ok. I haven't read the other series that this is a spin off from, so I don't know how this one compares. Sometimes the characters say things that don't sound like kids will say. Or, the adults will say stuff that really sounds like they know it's a PG-13 book, so they're trying to tone it down, which just doesn't ring true (does that make sense?)

Other than that, I really like the story and I'm really interested in seeing where it goes.

I won my copy from the publisher. Was supposed to get it before it came out but they're shipping was atrocious so I didn't get in until a few days ago (and it was beat up to boot!). Ha!

HP and Twilight have nothing in common except that they both made gazillions of dollars and are both in the YA genre. People compare the two only because of those reasons. I love reading peoples comments on sites like EW.com when either series is brought up, because there is always a lot of banter back and forth about which series is better. I never engage, but I sit back and laugh. There really is no comparison in my eyes because of the two, HP is just so much more well written.

Heidi wrote: "HP and Twilight have nothing in common except that they both made gazillions of dollars and are both in the YA genre. People compare the two only because of those reasons. I love reading peoples ..."

And they both made readers out of people who didn't like to read. Other than that, I agree with Heidi that there is no comparison.

message 182: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) That makes sense. I just thought that there was something more than that since it always comes up. I guess it's just a way to pass the time and to get people to discuss books.

I think we should charter our own debate. Wonder what two books we could compare?

message 183: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Even Shannen agrees HP was better written, so no arguments here. I think?

message 184: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) None here. I still think it's odd that people compare them in the first place. And sorry about rehashing this, I know that the Twilight drama (hehe Twilight Saga, get it???) is getting kind of old.

Oh Shannen I think it also got the younger kids into reading longer books. :)

message 185: by [deleted user] (new)

I love them both in very different ways. They are totally different so really no way to compare them, except how passionate their readers are. Obviously I'm passionate about both and Rob Pattinson was involved in both series. :)

message 186: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Shannen, I think I like Rob better in the Goblet of Fire!

message 187: by [deleted user] (new)

Chachic wrote: "Shannen, I think I like Rob better in the Goblet of Fire!"

Pishaw! The only thing about him as Edward Cullen that I don't like is he wears pasty make up. I tried watching him in Little Ashes where he plays Salvador Dali but I just forwarded to the scene that showed him passionately kissing another guy and one where he was almost naked. Hehe!

message 188: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Shannen you are scandalous! p.s. I HATE that makeup. It is too distracting to me. I actually thought it was worse in New Moon. It brings you out of the movie when you can see the actors makeup like that (totally not Rob's fault by the way).

message 189: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I know! He's so pale as Edward. I think he's even more pasty in Eclipse. He looks scary and not at all like the Edward Cullen described in the books. What is Little Ashes? I've never heard of it.

message 190: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Little Ashes is a movie where he plays the artist Salvador Dali and he is totally gay in the movie. It was supposed to be pretty bad, so I skipped it.

message 191: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I'll skip it then if it's not any good.

message 192: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Chachic wrote: "I know! He's so pale as Edward. I think he's even more pasty in Eclipse. He looks scary and not at all like the Edward Cullen described in the books. What is Little Ashes? I've never heard of it."

I know. I mean, at first (in Twilight) you could just speculate that they're all pale and just might be vamps. But in Eclipse you just know that they're vamps or dead.

message 193: by [deleted user] (new)

It was a bad movie and the make out scene wasn't even hot.

message 194: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I see you've got your priorities straight :P

message 195: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL! My co-worker is my enabler. She rented the movie and then let me borrow it.

message 196: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Shannen wrote: "It was a bad movie and the make out scene wasn't even hot."

HAHAHA Shannen!

message 197: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Speaking of movies, I sae Land of the Lost and Alice in Wonderland and liked both.

To stay on topic I am now reading Rules of Attraction.

message 198: by [deleted user] (new)

My co-worker told me there was a make out scene and an almost completely nude scene. I brought the movie home, put it in my laptop and watched about 2 minutes of it before I decided to just fast forward to the good stuff. My hubby's eyes almost rolled out of his head.

message 199: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
You liked Land of the Lost? I thought it was supposed to be bad? Alice is supposed to be good though, and I plan to see it. p.s. I am actually old enough to remember watching the original Land of the Lost and now I have that stupid theme song in my head. Between that song and that damn Chicago song my day is ruined!

message 200: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi it was a dumb movie, but my hubby and I both thought it was pretty funny! Don't go in expecting to learn, just laugh. I heard it was bad, too. But I've never seen the first one so I didn't have a reference point to complain about :P
