Beautiful Creatures has my review, I LOVE this book, recommend to everyone I can, It is my TOP READ for 2010 so far.

message 102: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) FireSince I stopped comparing it to Graceling, I am enjoying it more.

Eternal a VERY different take on vampires. It is the second book by this author I read, the first was Tantalize which is also very orginal with paranormal characters.

message 103: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Teresa, really, you're not that into Fire? I loved Fire more than Graceling but I know that Heidi thinks Graceling is a lot better.

I started Charmed Thirds (Jessica Darling, #3) by Megan McCafferty last night.

There is so much more action in Graceling and I think the female character is much stronger character and independent.

Agreed.

message 108: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Hmm I don't know why I liked Fire better than Katsa. Maybe because she's more in touch with her emotions than Katsa was? Although it's useless to compare the two books because I both loved them anyway. I hope Bitterblue is just as good. :)

Chachic Heidi wrote: "I like Katsa and Po's characters more."

What did you think of Second Helpings? That's my favorite in the Jessica Darling series. You. Yes. You.

message 110: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Me. Yes. Me. Loved, loved, loved Second Helpings. I am afraid I am in for a downer after that one.

message 111: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I ♥ Marcus Flutie! He's one of my fictional guy crushes. I want my own Marcus Flutie.

message 112: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Okay, I just created a Jessica Darling thread so we can gush some more over there: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...

That's really cool to hear that! I'm only 170 pages in and so far I really love it, the characters are getting weirder and weirder lol Very intriguing, it definitely has my attention! :)

message 114: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I'm currently reading the first book of the Septimus Heap series, "Magyk" by Angie Sage.

message 115: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Ashley I plan to listen to that book on audio soon.

message 116: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I read that a while back and it's enjoyable but I think it's more middle grade than YA.

message 117: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
I agree, it was more middle grade. I didn't love Magyk, but it was cute.

I just finished reading The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. Loved it! (I'm also a big fan of his Percy Jackson books!)

I just started Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder. I'm only on the second page … not really crazy about the writing thus far, but we'll see how it goes. :)

message 118: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Brigid, did you read Maria Snyder's Study series? How does Inside Out compare with that?

I'm currently reading Jovah's Angel, which is the second book in Sharon Shinn's Samaria series and isn't YA but I loved Archangel so I'm curious as to where the rest of the series will go.

message 119: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
I read Poison Study and enjoyed it; I haven't read the other books in the Study series though … My library doesn't seem to have them. *sigh* Anyway, I think Inside Out is her first YA so it's a little different. Looks like she tried to make her writing style "simpler" and so there are a lot of fragments, which gets on my nerves. But I'm hoping the plot will be good enough to take away from that.

message 120: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I read Poison Study and loved it. I read Magic Study but I think it was just okay. Yeah, I read from a thread here in Goodreads that she didn't write the Study series as YA but it is currently being marketed as YA. Let us know what you think of Inside Out when you're done!

message 121: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Okay. I should read the rest of them eventually … Yeah, I didn't think Poison Study was YA, it was more adult. This one is supposed to be YA though. Yes, I'll let you know what I think when I finish it!

message 122: by Amy (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) I liked Poison Study a lot! But I thought Magic Study went down from there.. I think the Study series have a lot of cross-over appeal--like I'm a teen but I still read them and thought it totally fine. ish. Haha.

Hehe right now I'm reading:
A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead A Spy in the House (The Agency, #1) by Y.S. Lee

message 123: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Amy - that Agency book looks good.

message 124: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Amy, let me know what you think of Spirit Bound! I don't know when I'll be able to read it.

message 125: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 38 comments I agree with Heidi and whoever else said they liked Graceling better than Fire, I was severly disappointed by Fire. I really hope Bitterblue returns to the Graceling standards.

message 126: by Amy (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) @Heidi: It's pretty good so far! It's sort of a historical (Victorian) mystery, I think. Reminds me of Agatha Christie a bit.

@Chachic: So far so good! :)

A.m.y wrote: "I agree with Heidi and whoever else said they liked Graceling better than Fire, I was severly disappointed by Fire. I really hope Bitterblue returns to the Graceling standards."

Yup, I said it! I liked Katsa so much more. I don't like overly emotional female leads, which Fire was.

message 128: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 38 comments Heidi, I go into more detail at my blog http://challengingthebookworm.wordpre...

Fire was one of the reasons I didn't connect with the book. None of the characters really inspired any sort of sympathy or sentiment. The narration seemed sluggish at times. And whenever things seemed to REALLY slow down, Cashore threw another revelation from the past into the mix to cause excitement and upset the ever tenuous balance of the characters. (oh, I wish I had that put that phrase into my blog review) And I saw on Goodreads that someone else wrote in their review that she felt the subplot that linked the two stories together was extraneous and really not needed, and I couldn't agree more.

message 129: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Great review. I left you a comment :)

message 130: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
I loved both Graceling and Fire, although I agree that the story/characters were better in Graceling. I'm excited for Bitterblue and I hope some of the old characters come back. :) At least we know Bitterblue will :D

message 131: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I seem to be in a minority here. Like Brigid, I loved both Graceling and Fire and for some reason, I liked Fire a little better.

message 132: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Yaaay well at least you loved it too! ;) I don't know … I did love both, but I thought Fire dragged a little, occasionally. For me, Graceling was more of a page-turner.

message 133: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Hmm I may have to do a re-read to compare but I don't know when I'll have the time for it!

To get back on the topic of the thread, I finished reading Jovah's Angel. I also finished reading Saving Francesca yesterday and later I'm going to start reading Looking for Alibrandi.

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta

message 134: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading Magyk (Septimus Heap, #1) by Angie Sage and I am now reading Flyte (Septimus Heap, #2) by Angie Sage . I am also going to continue with a couple of other books I got going.

I am listening to Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) by Philip Pullman . Plan to pick of Sabriel for the June read as well as Magic Study and Fourth Comings today at the library :) Yeah!

message 136: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Let us know what you think of Will Grayson, Will Grayson when you're done reading. I haven't read any of John Green's novels.

message 137: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Will do. So far I am really liking it.

message 138: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading Between Sisters A Novel by Kristin Hannah last night. I am now going to continue with Flyte (Septimus Heap, #2) by Angie Sage and start on The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) by Rick Riordan .

message 139: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Oooh I loved The Red Pyramid :]

message 140: by [deleted user] (new)

Chachic recommended Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols and I read it in less than a day. 4 stars for me. :)

I'll be starting Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, #1) by Sara Shepard tonight.

message 141: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 38 comments Just finished an advanced copy of The Extraordinary Secrets of April, May, & June by Robin Benway

Cute story.... I'll be reviewing within the week. I've been under the weather lately (I'm the only person I know who gets sick in the summer, but I'm blaming it on lack of sleep) so I'm behind on my reading and blogging.

Well, I finished reading Inside Out, and it was very good :]
I have my last-resort book to read now … This book called Blood Ninja. I just had to get out a book about vampire ninjas. I was curious. XD

Chachic A.M.Y., hope you get well soon!

Brigid, how was Inside Out compared to the Study series?

message 145: by Amy (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) I'm reading Fire Study and The White Cat and Mistwood right now. So far so good!

Fire Study (Study, #3) by Maria V. Snyder White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black Mistwood by Leah Cypess

message 146: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Bluemoon, it's okay. Enjoy your vacation! You can catch up when you get back to Canada.

Amy, I really liked Mistwood and Leah Cypess is so friendly! I added her here in Goodreads and I follow her on Twitter. :) Let me know if White Cat is any good. I've seen it around and I'm curious. I haven't bought it though because I didn't really love Holly Black's faery books.
