Dixie Minor | 276 comments I almost forgot I read a cute book over Christmas, Top Ten Clues You're Clueless Top Ten Clues You're Clueless by Liz Czukas It was a light-hearted fun book that I think would be geared toward younger teens. Mostly a fun adventure; also deals with a MC who doesn't want a medical condition to define her.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished a reread of The Human (The Eden Trilogy, #2) by Keary Taylor loved it!

Next I'm going to be starting Rogue (Talon #2) by Julie Kagawa

BRIGID: I know what you mean. I wasn't a fan of the characters as well. But I think the book's intention was just to scare you right out cause there really wasn't any character developments.

Ashley Marie Feeling rather mixed about Uprooted by Naomi Novik but trying not to be too judgmental because I'm only 14% in.

I skipped that one because Brigid was not in love with it and we are pretty similar in taste. Keep me updated please :)

I am about 1/2 way through the audio of Stand-Off Stand-Off (Winger, #2) by Andrew Smith and am enjoying it very much :) It is different than the first book somewhat but a very solid read so far.

Ashley Marie Heidi, I DNF'd Uprooted at the 20% mark. It just wasn't working for me. The romantic relationship bordered on abusive and I'm not down for that. On the other hand, the prose was getting overly wordy and dragging and I was bored. The Wood seemed like a really interesting "villain", but she definitely could've edited the story down a bit.

Thanks for the update Ashley. I will keep it in my skip pile then.

I agree, Ashley. The relationship in Uprooted bothered me so much. I liked the Wood as the villain, but the plot was pretty slow and I was not a fan of the characters/romance.

Heidi, I'm glad you're enjoying Stand-Off! :)

Dixie Minor | 276 comments Just finished I Have a Bad Feeling about This I Have a Bad Feeling about This by Jeff Strand , which was really funny in a crazy way. Kind of like Ghostbusters for teens , with a little Big Bang Theory thrown in. And a little like Holes (Holes, #1) by Louis Sachar , only funny. Well, except it did get a little darker than you would have thought, with the tone of the rest of the book.

Finished:

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman

Mixed feelings over all. There were some really cool aspects of it (including the crazy format!) but I wasn't as invested in it as I had hoped to be.

Today I started:

Erebos by Ursula Poznanski Never Goodnight by Coco Moodysson

message 9570: by Marcia (new)

Marcia (marciavdz) @Brigid: I thought Illuminae was amazing :D I loved both the format and the story!

I'm currently rereading the Delirium series by Lauren Oliver. Already halfway through Requiem.
Requiem (Delirium, #3) by Lauren Oliver

I liked book one a lot more than I expected but quit there because I head a lot of complaints about the follow up books. I was fine making up my own ending in my head :)

message 9573: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I've just started the audio of Prisoner of Night and Fog (Prisoner of Night and Fog, #1) by Anne Blankman , really enjoying it. I think Brigid would definitely like it, since you liked CNV and Wolf by Wolf.

message 9574: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished The Iron Warrior (The Iron Fey Call of the Forgotten, #3) by Julie Kagawa and it was a good finale to the series! I started reading this series years ago, so I got a bit nostalgic at the end, especially when Puck and Ash were fighting together again!

Right now I'm listening to Earth & Sky (Earth & Sky, #1) by Megan Crewe on audio and its good so far.
Still reading Erebos by Ursula Poznanski , which is very good, and going to be starting After Alice by Gregory Maguire soon.

Also reading House of Pawns (House of Royals #2) by Keary Taylor in ebook.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments Been a while, probably will be another while before I come back. Haven't read too much since I was last on.

Finished Blue is for Nightmares (Blue is for Nightmares, #1) by Laurie Faria Stolarz , which I wanted to love but ended up feeling very meh about.

Also finished Alive by Scott Sigler , which I wanted to love and really did end up loving. Great stuff. Familiar enough to recommend to certain readers, but new enough to feel fresh.

Up next, I'll probably end up reading Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1) by Eoin Colfer

I really liked the first few books in the series but the last few have left a bad taste in my mouth. I am going to try the newest book and decide if I want to continue. I might try it on audio if you like the narration.

Nina wrote: "Whats wrong with the other books?"

She starts some dreaded love triangle and a few of the mysteries themselves are not my favorites. Still love her as a an author though so I have faith she will turn things around. She is writing like 4 or 5t series at a time because she also writes a series under the name Josie Bell so I think she needs to focus on one or two for now instead.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished After Alice by Gregory Maguire 3.5 stars

I didn't get into this one as much as Maguire's other books, which was a shame, because I'm a big fan of his writing! It felt a bit disjointed. I really enjoyed the Wonderland parts, and the concept was great, I just felt taken out of the story at about every chapter break.

Finished:

Erebos by Ursula Poznanski

Kinda mixed feelings about it ... I liked it in the beginning but the second half was a bit slow for me. I guess I can post all my thoughts in the thread about it! :D

And now I'm finally starting:

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer

Yay! Yes. RP One was very detail orientated and at times I spaced out during the narration. I think it helped listening to the audiobook for some of the technical parts.

I could see that being helpful. It's definitely an enjoyable read, despite the detail. I wonder, too, if some of my annoyance is knowing a lot of this stuff already from my childhood (I used to play text adventure games on a tandy, for instance) and maybe if I didnt know this stuff, it wouldn't be so boring to me.
