I felt the same way about Fire & Ash - decent ending but not my favorite in the series.

I felt that way until about the last third of it, then it REALLY takes off!! Ended up LOVING this read!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #1) by Rick Riordan 4 stars. This was not my fave Rick Riordan, but I still loved the book! It was a nice switch up to learn more about Norse Mythology, something a little different. I really liked the MC, Magnus, and his band of weirdo followers. The story wasn't as action packed as Percy Jackson, and didn't read quite as quick, but still a good read.

Started reading Winger (Winger, #1) by Andrew Smith last night. I checked it out from the library and the print is so small that I am going to have to buy a pair of cheapy reading glasses to keep at home (I keep my prescription glasses at work). That's one advantage of a Kindle!

@Jenny - I still need to read Magnus Chase! But yeah I've heard it's not his best, so I'm a little anxious about it. I'm waiting for a copy to come to the library for me!

@Shannen - YESSSSSS Winger is one of my favorite books (and the sequel, too)! Hope you enjoy it. :D

Yay Shannen! That was Brigid's Hidden Gem monthly pick last year and we all ended up loving it from what I remember! I have the second book to listen to soon. I hope you love Winger too. Here is our thread about it https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Seraphina was just plain weird but I ended up liking it - I think I gave it 3 .5 stars?? I have not heard positive things about the sequel that just came out however - it was a long time between books!

@Heidi - It was pretty weird! But yes I liked it too. :) I've also heard pretty negative things about the second one so I'm a little hesitant to try it––but if I do, I'll let you know how it is!

@Shannen - Hahaha yesss I love Ryan Dean's narration. He's so hilarious. :D

I just realized I have only read around 75 books this year so far which is terrible for me. I am hoping this reading slump just has to do with my recent Korean drama obsession (watching tv instead of reading). Since the time change here I have noticed I want to go to bed earlier and read before bed so I am hoping to get back into the swing of things. There are people out there who don't even read one book per year so I guess I am doing better than a lot of the population :)

message 9323: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Heidi, 75 books is nothing to sneeze at! Reading is for FUN, not a chore ;) And you're right, lots of people don't read at all hardly! I think its a great accomplishment to at least read 1 book a year!

When my 3 older kids were babies, I read about a book a year, maybe 2. I was too tired to read!

Glad to hear this! I've read 1, maybe 2 books since my second was born! :(
I barely finished writing my last book, and that was a struggle. I feel like I should be doing more, especially on the reading front. It's soooo hard to get any time these days. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I actually have 4...but I had my oldest daughter Alison, then 15 months later had twin boys! So basically I was raising 3 babies at once! Tessa came along 5 years later, when they were all in school. She was easy peasy compared to them!!

Alison graduated high school last year. The boys are seniors this year, and Tessa is a 6th grader. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I have lots of time to read now!

Not to rush this stage, but I am looking forward to the one where I can be an adult again...lol.

Wow! 4! I'm so impressed. I have several friends with twins and I have to say, after watching them, you (and they) are true superheroes!

I've seen quite a few who really liked one but not the other. Legend, to me, was okay. Didn't hate it at all, but didn't particularly like it either. How different each is says a lot about Marie Lu as an author, though. Much respect :)

I read Miss Peregrine's and the graphic novel version of it(totally worth checking out) and have been anxious for Hollow City for a while.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments Legend is a hard one for me to recommend because I liked the writing a lot, but the story wasn't for me. Knowing what I know of your reads, Heidi(which isn't much but still haha) I'd assume Young Elites is more up your alley.

The crazy thing is how different they are from each other, yet both were so well done. Makes me interested in whatever Marie Lu does next.

Dixie Minor | 276 comments I am glad some of you guys remembered City of Ember and thought it was good. :) I am reading a mystery for Book Club, which will be at my house, yikes! ;) I've got to clean up -a lot! :D But the mystery is Louise Penny's How the Light Gets In (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #9) by Louise Penny I'll bet some of you have read her.this is my first; I think it's wonderful! Haha, I think I will make my book Clubbers play a mystery trivia game and play that game where you wink and everyone tries to figure out who the murderer is. I might be getting carried away, LOL.
Heidi, 75 books is a LOT! I can relate to you having something you want to watch instead of reading sometimes; I think that is so relaxing and my husband and I like to watch certain shows together. Like Longmire, based on these books -love it!!! The Cold Dish (Walt Longmire, #1) by Craig Johnson
