Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments Since my last post I've read Bone Tall Tales by Jeff Smith & Rose (Bone, #0) by Jeff Smith I Both are set in the Bone universe and very good, but for very different reasons.

Now to really start Charlie Bone and the Time Twister (The Children of the Red King, #2) by Jenny Nimmo

So glad this group is back in action! :D

Well, I'm reading:

Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard

It's been a big disappointment for me, I'm sorry to say. It's like every trope of every fantasy/dystopia I can think of, and on top of that I don't find any of the characters very interesting and I find it kind of sexist. I really wanted to like it but, at least so far, it's not doing it for me.

message 8703: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I'm sorry Brigid. I loved Red Queen, but I will admit, that the main reason I loved it was the big twist at the end ;) The ending was really awesome.

Hmm okay, I will wait and see! Although I kind of know what the twist is because I accidentally saw the last page. *headsmack* x_x But I'm interested to see exactly what happens.

Ashley Marie YAYYYYYY

Anyway, currently reading
UnDivided (Unwind, #4) by Neal Shusterman Ink and Bone (The Great Library, #1) by Rachel Caine The Road by Cormac McCarthy The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon, #3) by Dan Brown

hopefully finishing the Lost Symbol today because it really started to drag yesterday and hasn't even been fully resolved yet (boo), but otherwise a lot of good books!

And I'm looking forward to starting Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas Hollow City (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #2) by Ransom Riggs probably next week :)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1) by Michelle Hodkin will be finished in the next day or so.

Also reading: Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse, #2) by Charlaine Harris Local Girls by Alice Hoffman Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell Triangles by Ellen Hopkins

Got my library fines waived, and I'm next up for Anna Dressed in Blood (ebook) Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake (have to claim in next day or so).

Need to start Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
It is for one of my book clubs and we meet in person so there's no extending the day of needing to have it read (July 28th)

message 8711: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Finished Let the Sky Fall (Let the Sky Fall, #1) by Shannon Messenger LOVED it!

Finished:

Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard

Over all it was just okay for me. I just felt like I'd read the same book before, more or less. Very trope-y. Even with the cliffhanger ending, I kind of doubt I'll read the sequel.

Started:

The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) by Rae Carson

It's kind of funny reading this right after Red Queen because it has a somewhat similar plot, although so far I like the protagonist in this book more. ;)

Sophia Nicolopoulos (augustineofelsinore) | 17 comments hey guys! I'm currently reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane The Second Sexand Ursula Le Guin's A Woman's Liberation. All three are really interesting and I particularly love Le Guin's sci-fi stories as well as Gaiman's fiction! I do hope though to finish The Second Sex sooner rather than later, as it's really demanding but useful for my Bachelor studies!

I liked Ocean at the End of the Lane. It was not earth shattering by any means but a nice kind of creepy tale.

I've only read some pages and it seemed promising and this is the very first time that I'm reading something from Gaiman-- I hope it's a read that'll make me to explore more of his works. The summaries from his books look really interesting, though!

I agree with what Heidi said! It was a fun book––maybe not the best thing I've ever read, but I enjoyed it. :) I love Coraline, if you're interested in reading some of his other books.

message 8729: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments I finished Charlie Bone and the Time Twister (The Children of the Red King, #2) by Jenny Nimmo It was better than book one, imo, but while I liked both, I loved neither. The premise of the series is really interesting though, and so I read on.

Up next, More Than This by Patrick Ness

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm also thinking American Gods, Stardust and The Graveyard Book! Have you read any of them?

I am interested in your thoughts on More Than This Tommy. I still don't know what I thought of it months/years later! It was different that is for sure.

I read the Graveyard book and it is fairly similar in creepiness to Ocean at the End of the Lane - so if you end up liking Ocean you might want to give it a try.

p.s. if you like audiobooks Neil narrates most of his books himself and is a wonderful narrator (he narrated Graveyard book I know for sure)

I have started a new Neil Gaiman book too; it's the first graphic novel I have read. I guess I'm a little late to the game! ;) it is the first in The Sandman series; my son gave it to me for my birthday! :) I love it so far!

I wonder if I should give Leviathan another chance? I tried the first one on audio a few years ago but couldn't get into it. Is it one of those books that picks up by the middle??

Personally, I loved it from the beginning. But I also thought it gets better and better as it goes and the character's are developed. Most of all I really love the creativity of the Clankers' and Darwinists' inventions :) I really think it's worth the read!

Maybe the narration wasn't good? I don't do audio books myself, but have read several times that the narrator can often make or break it. Maybe in this case they broke it?

message 8745: by Heidi (new)

Yes narrators make or break books for me Tommy. I wonder if I was just in a mood when I tried it. I will try it again and let you all know. Thanks David!

Update - I just checked and the great actor Alan Cumming narrates Leviathan. I listened to a sample and don't remember it at all so now I think I tried it in print and not audio. I am going to see if my library has it on audio.

Heidi - I really liked the first Leviathan book but I think books 2 and 3 really made the series for me. It's now one of my favorites. :) Also I would recommend reading them in print because the illustrations are AMAZING and really add to the story/world-building in my opinion.

So this morning I finished:

The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) by Rae Carson

And now I am reading:

True Grit by Charles Portis

Which I really like so far!

And I also got an ARC of:

Stand-Off (Winger, #2) by Andrew Smith

*screams* I am very excited to start it. :D
