Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Finished The Originals by Cat Patrick and it was okay. It was a perfect easy read for when I was home sick in bed!

Next I'm going to try All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

Dixie Minor | 276 comments Heidi, I am sorry about your cats. I know you must miss him!! (Or her) I know you will find the right cat for adoption-they find US, don't they! :)

Thanks Dixie :) My cat was a male (Milo) and he was one of a kind (would knock things over and slam cupboards for attention and slept on a pillow in between my hubby and I each night). He was always in my business so it is weird without him. We picked out a kitten earlier this week that we loved but unfortunately there is some "new to us" deal where you put your name on a list and they go down the list day by day and if you pick the cat up on your day you get it. That process is too stressful for me. I would rather look at a group of kittens and pick one (or as you say pick us :) That particular kitten was adopted by the person above us on the list. We have a line on a group of kittens being fostered right now and were told we could pick one out so that seems like our best bet. How people can "claim" a kitten by just seeing a picture is strange to me. I want to meet them first and see their personality. Thanks again for your sympathy :)

HEIDI: Sorry to hear about your cat! I know what you mean about needing to see your soon-to-be-pet before taking them. It's the personality that you really fall in love with, rather than their appearance!

Just finished...
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
I'm not sure what to say. Everyone seems to love it, but I didn't really think its that great. I guess with all the hype I was expecting more. I'm glad that Cath started to get less whiny and annoying, but she still aggravated me from time to time. The ending was uneventful. It wasn't boring, but just no climactic event. I don't know, I guess it just wan't for me. I enjoyed the Carry On tidbit, but not enough that I would actually want to read Rowell's full version of it. For me, it sounds too much like Harry Potter (fanfic version).

I really did enjoy Levi tho. I think he was the saving grace in the book, him and Reagan. Anyways, I gave it a three star. I feel that if I make a review of the book it will be more of a rant than an actual review. I feel so blah tho, cause I really thought I would enjoy it and I'm so disappointed.

I know, I definitely think you need to see them in person and even interact with thm. There is something that happens-where you just know they are choosing you! And it is so much fun to bring them home and have those first few days when it feels like Christmas!

Thanks gals! We are all set to go look at some kittens today. Can't wait!

Bluemoon - I often say Rainbow R. has yet to "nail" an ending. I am never quite satisfied with any of her endings. I love E & P and thought Fangirl was a decent read but was not in love with it like E & P. Levi saved Fangirl for me. I loved him so it made me more into the book.

Aw I'm sorry about your cat, Heidi. :( That's exciting about the kittens, though! :D

Bluemoon - I didn't quite get the hype about Fangirl, either. It was cute and addicting and I liked it, but it went on for far too long IMO. And I had a lot of believability issues with it. (Like, as a very socially anxious college student who spends most time alone in my room writing ... hot guys don't just magically appear and fall in love with you, unfortunately. :P) I believe Simon Snow was supposed to be a very obvious parody of Harry Potter––but the problem is that the book actually references HP which raises the question of like, why does no one mention that Simon Snow is such a rip-off? lol. But yeah, I did like Levi and Reagan and most of the other characters.

Update! We picked out a kitten today. I have to wait 3 weeks for it to wean off his mother (he is only 5 weeks old). That poor mommy kitty was left on the side of the road pregnant with 6 kittens!

I hate seeing animals just being abandoned its pretty sad. Post pictures once you get her/him.

BRIGID: yes, I totally thought that Simon Snow was suppose to be the HP of the Fangirl setting. Which I accepted it until they mentioned HP.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments I finished Saga, Volume 1 (Saga #1-6) by Brian K. Vaughan Saga, Volume 2 (Saga #7-12) by Brian K. Vaughan Saga, Volume 3 (Saga #13-18) by Brian K. Vaughan and absolutely loved them. They're for "mature readers", so I can't recommend them to everyone, but if you're of an age/maturity level that you can read them, I recommend them highly.

Up next I'll really get started on The Necromancer (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #4) by Michael Scott and I'll try to have that and Amulet, Vol. 4 The Last Council (Amulet, #4) by Kazu Kibuishi Amulet, Vol. 5 Prince of the Elves (Amulet, #5) by Kazu Kibuishi and Amulet, Vol. 6 Escape From Lucien (Amulet, #6) by Kazu Kibuishi by Monday, when I plan on returning some things to the library then hanging out and writing for a while.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and overall I thought it was really good. The dust jacket said it was a cross between The Fault in our Stars and Eleanor & Park. I did kind of see the FiOS thing, as Finch was a little weird and crazy like Gus, but other than that, I think those are poor comparisons. This is a pretty dark read, and I'm honestly amazed I was able to finish it. Not because it was bad, but because its kind of a hard issue for me to read about. But I did see that ending coming from a mile away. I still cried quite a bit though! I thought the author was very brave to write this book, too, IMO. I see its merit, but the end was SO DEPRESSING. Like, really, worse than Allegiant at the end! So I gave it 4.5 stars just because it bummed me so much! Don't read this book if you're in a bad place!

Okay, ramble over.

Right now reading Dark Metropolis (Dark Metropolis, #1) by Jaclyn Dolamore , almost done, and really into it! Also going to start Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5) by Marissa Meyer soon!

I didn't even know the audiobook had different version. I had to quickly check my library. Yes, its the Jim Dale version. I had to wait a month for my copy!

I'm actually in a reading slump so I decided to just go ahead and listen to this one. I'm going to start it while going to work. Hopefully it will kick me out of my slump

It has its ups and downs for me, but I'm liking it. All the main characters are either real people from history or characters from old myths. Worth checking out book one, for sure.

Nice! I love kittens .... not a huge fan of cats but to be fair I'm allergic to their adult dander. Never knew it until I moved into a house with cats in college and couldn't stop scratching.

Aww Jamie. If you ever want to consider a cat (since I know kids love pets) you should look into hypoallergenic breeds like Balinese or Siberian cats :)

I'm listening to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and I'm enjoying it, but it's a hit and miss with me for the voices. I love Hagrid's voice. It sounds like actor in the movies, but I hate Mr. Durseley's voice. Its like a cross between Marvin the Martian and Mr. Bean. Every time he does the voice, it cracks me up!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Finished reading Dark Metropolis (Dark Metropolis, #1) by Jaclyn Dolamore which was a fun, fresh read with an original idea! I liked it overall.

Also finished Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5) by Marissa Meyer which was an AMAZING read! If you love this series, you'll want to read this one! A very dark, heartbreaking story, but I think it will be very important background info for the final book!

Also finished my reread of Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle, #1) by Christopher Paolini and loved it!

Next is Unleashed (Uninvited, #2) by Sophie Jordan

message 8283: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I have read Eldest before :) I will be rereading it, though. I still have to read the last 2 books, but its been 5 years since I read the first 2, so thought I'd reread those and then finally finish the series!

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments I finished The Necromancer (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #4) by Michael Scott this morning. I liked it a lot. Quite a bit more than the first three books of the series.

I started The Shadowhand Covenant by Brian Farrey as well. Loved the first book, and just a couple chapters in I'm already liking this one just as much. I really wish this series was more popular.

JENNY: oooo...same here! I just couldn't read Eragon. I tried several times to start it, but could never go past the first few chapters. I want to maybe try Eragon, maybe that would get me into it more, but it's really not on top of my tbr

TOMMY: i tried reading the first book on Nicholas Flammel series, but had such high expectation for it and I was a bit disappointed. I want to continue with it cause its such a fascinating story, but I don't know if its worth continuing. Thoughts? Is the second better than the first?

IMO the first Flamel book was the worst so far(I've read 4 of the 6). Book 2 is a bit better than book 1, book 3 a bit more than 2, and book 4 was tons better than the first 3.
So yeah, I think it's worth checking out, but the first 3 books did lag a bit.

The strongest part of the series, IMO, is the real life history mixed into the story. Book one felt like it was really trying to go "LOOK, LOOK AT THIS FACT!" M. Scott cooled it and let all his research fade into the background to support his story and it made it much more enjoyable.
