Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments At the moment I'm reading The Hunt for Dark Infinity (The 13th Reality, #2) by James Dashner , book 2 of a series James Dashner did before Maze Runner. So far I liked Maze Runner better than book 1 and half of book two, but like this series more than the MR sequels so far.

Hmmm Tommy. That is not selling me on it since I was not a fan of Maze Runner!

Fair enough haha. For what it's worth, the story is not like Maze Runner at all. I'd recommend it more to fans of something like Percy Jackson than fans of Maze Runner. My comparisons were just to do with how I felt about it compared to MR because it's by the same author.
The writing's not the best, if I'm honest, but it's just fun stuff. Stupid life keeps interrupting my reading/writing time though, so I've only read 1.5 books out of 4 haha. I'll share my more informed thoughts once I finish these puppies.

I started reading...
Girl of Nightmares (Anna, #2) by Kendare Blake

I originally didn't want to continue the series, but I found out it's just a duology. So might as well finish it.

Just an update that this months Hidden Gem read is Anna's pick The Prisoner of Cell 25 The Prisoner of Cell 25 (Michael Vey, #1) by Richard Paul Evans . I need to pick up the audio from my library!

I really enjoyed Brigid's choice last month (Winger) so I am hoping for two good reads in a row!

I started and finished...
Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley

It was such a good book! I don't usually gravitate towards contemporary love story, but I was feeling girly today. Since this is the only book I have that's mushy, I decided to give it a go. I'm so glad I did. Read it in one sitting!

you have a long commute? I have never been farther away than 30 min by foot from School.

message 8026: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Not too long - 4o to 45 min one way but it makes me more tired than when I used to live 5 blocks away from my work! Especially in the winter when it gets dark early and the sun doesn't rise as early.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments Just finished The Hunt for Dark Infinity (The 13th Reality, #2) by James Dashner Really fun read. Better than the first book. The writing isn't the strongest, but the stories are fun and easy to get into to.

Up next I'll start Through the Woods by Emily Carroll and probably The Spindlers by Lauren Oliver

OMG Jenny! You are a crazy lady reader! I can't even keep track of half of the books you're reading. Ack!

message 8034: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments This time of year especially, I read a lot. I spend my evenings all cuddled up in bed reading for hours!

Just finished reading The Islands at the End of the World (Islands at the End of the World, #1) by Austin Aslan I'm having trouble deciding on this book. On the one hand, I flew through it. It was immensely entertaining, and reminded me of Ashfall by Mike Mullin in a lot of ways. I also loved that it was a dad and his teenage daughter trying to survive, and there was no romance going on at all.

My issue was with the ending a bit. Things got a bit too incredible to believe for me...although it was an original, unique idea, and could happen...but a lot of it seemed too convenient, especially with the MC, her grandfather, and the Sheriff. If you read it, you'll see what I mean.

But for entertainment value, I do think it deserves 4 stars, despite some of these issues! Or at least a 3.5 :)

Next I think I'm going to try All Fall Down (Embassy Row, #1) by Ally Carter

message 8036: by ILyk (new)

ILyk Tourid (annvalane) Finished Far Far Away by Tom McNeal . Gee, I thought it was a retelling of fairy tale. That. Was. So. Creepy. And disturbing too. Maybe it's only me. Would that be suitable for an 11-year old? I love reading sci-fi and picked up Gravity (The Taking, #1) by Melissa West and Legacy Code (Legacy Code, #1) by Autumn Kalquist for free on Amazon today.YEAH!! :-)) Are they any good or just meh-meh? An excuse to use my kindle too.

Anna we read Far Far Away as a buddy read awhile back and it was creepy. I liked it though. I think it depends on the 11 year old and their maturity level on whether they would be too scared.

I really like Far Far Away as well. The creepiness of it was the subtlety of it. O_O Ack!

I listened to it on audio and liked it a lot that I bought the book after.

It's a 5-star from me, and thinking about buying it too. A good present for 11-year-old niece. She's a fearless one, anyway. It's a good lesson in how jolly, happy people are not always what they really are, deceptive looks, etc., I've started Fire Country and it's not as colloquial as Blood Red Road. Siena's voice so good -really pulls you into story.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments I finished Through the Woods by Emily Carroll this morning. A good, creepy comic read. Quite enjoyed it.

I decided I'm gonna read The Queen of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #1) by Erika Johansen next since I got lucky to get it before people at the library started putting holds on it.
