Currently reading:

Icefall by Matthew J. Kirby The Boy A Thousand Years Wide by David Spon-Smith

Enjoying Icefall so far! It is a bit more on the middle grade side, but it's an intriguing story and I like how the Norse mythology is tied in.

The Boy A Thousand Years Wide is .... interesting. It's an ARC I got from NetGalley a while ago. It's unusual and intriguing, but the style is a bit annoying ... it's written in a sort of "dialect" style––kind of like Chaos Walking but not nearly as good or consistent. But hopefully I'll get used to it and the story will get less confusing.

It's grown a lot on me, too. :D I don't know very many Norse myths so it's cool to learn more of the stories.

Ashley - Croak is on sale for $1.99 (ebook) so I picked it up along with the audibook for an additional $3.49 :)

message 7756: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie @Heidi Excellentttt. I'm dying for payday to get here so I can pick up the other 2 books!

@Dixie I really like it! The whole concept of a Mars colony is very interesting, and I'm not usually one for space-age sort of books (says the girl who's in love with the Lunar Chronicles). I love the audiobook narration so much!

Damn, I knew there was a reason I wanted to read Icefall. I need more Norse mythology, the Thor movies just aren't cutting it lol

idk, I'm feeling very bogged down at the moment. Think I signed up for too many BRs lol. Started The Blade Itself a few days ago and haven't gotten nearly as far as I should have by now, and I'm still pressing through Seventh Son. In the meantime I seem to be completely ignoring Shadow & Bone, which I was supposed to start the day after Blade Itself, plus I've got The Name of the Wind waiting to be started tomorrow. le sighhhhh.

No worries Ashley! The thread will be here for when/if you ever get to it. I am also bogged down because I think I will be getting 3 "around the world" type books at once! eek! I like to move them along but I have so many others to read too. Decisions. Decisions. btw - are you reading Name of the Wind or listening to it? I love the narration but got bored with the story itself. I know you like Norse stories so you may like it more than me. I felt it could have been edited down a lot.

Ashley Marie Heidi -- reading Name of the Wind. the book itself is very daunting, I've got it sitting on the armrest of the couch and it's rather large-ish. Hopefully I like it enough to push through it, I've been wanting to read a Rothfuss book for months now.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished Steampunk H.G. Wells by H.G. Wells and I loved it! Very sci-fi and creepy! I had not read HG Wells before, has anyone else? Didn't know it would be so up my alley!

Now reading Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown and I like it, but I'm having trouble getting into it. It may just be were I'm at mentally though. I may set it aside for a bit, can't decide.

Just started Say What You Will Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern . My last library book for awhile until I get caught up (kind of) on the books and audiobooks I already own.

message 7777: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Listening to Red Rising on audio and I really love the narration -- I'm a sucker for Irish accents to begin with lol. The story is interesting but I'm seeing parallels to Percy Jackson via the use of ancient gods (even if they're Roman instead of Greek) and things like that. At this point it's probably a 3.5-4 star book, and I'm about 60% through.

Jenny I saw you mentioned it had an insta-love thing going on. That is one of my major pet peeves so that did not sell me on it!

message 7786: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments LOL I hear you Heidi! I can usually ignore that kind of thing, and it honestly wasn't a big part of the book. That may be why it felt like instalove, the romance part I bet only took a total of maybe 30 pages? There just weren't a lot of scenes, so it wasn't developed well.

It was mostly about this young girl who exists and has been raised to be a surrogate for the weathly. The royal and elites blood lines have gone bad in this futuristic society, so they look for the best in the poor sectors of the city (there is a fantasy element at play here too) then pluck the girls from their homes, and raise them to have the rich women's babies. This is this girl's entire purpose. They fix them all up, dress them to the nighs, and basically sell them at auction. They are given every modern comfort, BUT they are not treated well. All kinds of lies and backstabbing also exists with the elite. I found the whole thing really fascinating!

No need to hide in the corner! Georgia is not for everyone! I loved the entire Georgia series but I really think the series is one that the audiobook narration really helped improve my ratings because the narrator was excellent. I loved the movie as well and even bought the soundtrack (which is awesome :)
