BECKY: I think that's what a lot of people have trouble with. They just can't get attached to the protagonists.

Love the Thief! I haven't read the third book, but the second is better ^_^

Dixie Minor | 276 comments I just finished Red Rising, and it was great! I could not put it down! I love it when that happens. . . ;) I am reading An Abundance of Katherines and then need to hurry and read Icefall before December is over! This is the time of year I stay inside more-and read! Yay!

Yay Dixie! 2014 was a sad year for my year end book totals but I always have 2015 to make up for it! Abundance of Katherines is the only Green I skipped due to some so so reviews. Let me know what you think please :)

message 7708: by Dixie (new)

Dixie Minor | 276 comments Thank you, Heidi! I will let you know! I really like the title. ;)

message 7709: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie finished Sabriel last night and really liked it, although for some reason the ending felt a bit rushed. maybe it was just me and I need to reread it. looking forward to the second one, anyway!

I'm thinking I'm gonna wind up setting Froi aside until sometime in the new year, I don't have the attention to devote to it right now.

the Sabriel series? I was actually pretty impressed by the first one, I've never run into necromancy in fantasy-fiction before so that was really cool.

I'm also taking The Blade Itself to the library shop with me later to occupy my time :) so many buddy reads this month and next! and I'm supposed to start Shadow & Bone tomorrow eeeeeks.

Wow Jenny! You have had a good reading month :) It is nice when you read all solid reads back to back.

Ashley Marie Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "Do you think I sound try it again Ashley? I know some books are worth it so let me know :)"

I thought it was worth a second attempt, since I made it all the way through it -- this one seemed to take a bit more focus than most books (dunno why) but I liked the world-building and the story didn't feel cliched.

message 7723: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie so between the ABC Family HP weekend and my GR friend Verner starting to read Philosopher's Stone for the first time, I've gone and found the Prisoner of Azkaban audiobook on youtube. we'll see how long it stays up, but I love this book in any format.

message 7724: by Heidi (new)

Gah! I own and love all the HP books on audio. I love Jim Dale as a narrator but would also love to hear the UK versions with Stephen Fry.

message 7725: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie yeah I haven't heard Stephen Fry's narration, I need to look those up.

Well, most of the books I read are bestsellers, but yes its hard to be aware of all of the betsellers all of the time.
And I kinda geuss I try to look for underrated,or unkown gem books.

So far, I am loving An Abundance of Katherines!! It is really funny and quirky and colorful! Right now, it is so hopeful, but it may take a turn. I am kinda braving myself for that.

Hope you enjoy it Tammy. I am afraid to try that series because I was not a fan of her writing in the MI series but I was told that series is better.

Just finished Bruiser and enjoyed it over all. I thought the ending was too rushed and open ended for my tastes but I enjoyed the other 90% of it.

I looove tid, tmi is good enough.
But yes read the tid trilogy you will NOT regret it.

Glad you ladies love it. Does she (Clare) get overly wordy and over use the similes like she did in MI?? That is a major pet peeve of mine.

Oh, I love The Chronicles of Prydain. They get better as you go along except that I had trouble getting into the fourth one. Maybe because there wasn't the group of friends going around and helping/annoying each other.

message 7747: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I finished up the The Thief (The Queen's Thief, #1) by Megan Whalen Turner The Queen of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #2) by Megan Whalen Turner The King of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #3) by Megan Whalen Turner .

I really, really enjoyed the King of Attolia. If you have read the other two, I would definitely recommend continuing the series. It's one of those that you read parts over again after you know the ending so that you can see how the author sets everything up without spoon-feeding the reader.

message 7748: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Finished reading Sweep Volume 1 (Sweep, #1-3) by Cate Tiernan which was enjoyable enough, Blackbird (Blackbird, #1) by Anna Carey which I really liked (the mystery to it was good) and X Isle by Steve Augarde which had some flaws, but I liked well enough.

Now rereading Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas and reading Steampunk H.G. Wells by H.G. Wells

message 7749: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I've gotten a bit further with Seventh Son (Tales of Alvin Maker, #1) by Orson Scott Card and The Blade Itself (The First Law, #1) by Joe Abercrombie

and I started listening to Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown this morning and I love it already!
