Nope. I plan to listen to it on audiobook during the featured author month in our other group. I hope it gets better!

Kourtni - I've been wanting to read that one but haven't gotten around to it.

Heidi - Loved Ruby! She was a nice respite from Knife. Her friends need a good butt kicking but I can SO imagine teenage girls behaving like they did.

I was quite angry with Ruby's friends myself Shannen!

message 704: by Julie (new)

Julie S. Bluemoon,

Tunnels is pretty good. It starts off a little strangely, but there's some action and plot twists. It even starts a series, so if you like this one, there's more what that came from.

Heidi I wrote: "I was quite angry with Ruby's friends myself Shannen!"

Kim is a piece of poo! So is Jackson! Am I going to see more of them in the other books?

message 706: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yes Shannen - they are in all the books (well basically they are).

Heehee. This is my first time reading them. I'm so behind on the times ... O_o

HOLY CRAP I LOVE NEAL SHUSTERMAN. Everlost is really good, but it took me a while to get into it. Or I guess, it was one of those books I liked more after I'd read it and thought it over, if that makes sense ... Also, the sequel, Everwild is a lot better. :)

Unwind is my favorite book of his, and I also really love Bruiser.

message 709: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (readingwithmargaret) I am reading Across the Universe, so far I am liking it. Its part of the 2011 YA Debut Author Challenge, trying to read 2 books a month. Tried to get into The Fourth Stall, but just couldn't do it. Finished The False Princess, which I enjoyed.

Ooh, Across the Universe was good. :)

message 711: by Julie (new)

Julie S. I just started Rise of the Evening Star (Fablehaven, #2) by Brandon Mull , and it's good so far.

So Brigid... if you're like me and thought Unwind was just "Okay" (I think I gave it 3 1/2 stars) would you still recommend picking up the skinjacker books??

message 713: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Well … I adore Unwind. However, the Skinjacker books are very different. The style is similar––the writing style, and the fact that it follows several different characters. However, the plot is not quite as dark, and they're a bit more unusual. Personally, I love weird books. :]

message 714: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) I'm reading shiver, and it feels like the book is never going to end lol it not that it's bad I just can't seem to concentrate on it and I've been reading it on and off for like 4 days haha I'm like ughh

message 715: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (readingwithmargaret) Kristina I felt the exact same way about Shiver, and I cannot explain why. Weird eh?

It is more like a straight romance so it tends to go on and on.

message 717: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
I love Shiver! Although I know what you mean, it doesn't really have much of a "plot" until near the end. Linger is better in terms of plot, in my opinion. Anyway, I just love Maggie Stiefvater's writing, and she's such a cool person!

message 718: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 38 comments I know I've been gone a lot recently, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things... Just finished Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta

Can I just say OMG! Review will come on my blog sometime this week, and I'll add the link when it goes live... This story was such a sweeping success, from the plot twists to the characters (although the "big reveal" was a little predictable in my opinion, but in a good way)

I agree about the "big reveal" I'm not quite finished yet, but I reached that point today. I definitely saw it coming very early on in the story, but still the book has been amazing so far.

message 721: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Margaret/Brigid/Heidi - I know! It's like it seems like I've been reading for hours but I've only gone 20 pages, its ridiculous! Now I'm just like "get it out of the way and move on!" but I want to enjoy it, we'll see!

Which book? Shiver?
It gets better as it goes along. Although like I said, it's not really action-y.
The two best things about it are a) the writing, and b) Sam. :) The one thing that really bothers me is that Sam and Grace never argue … about anything. Still, it's a good story. :D

message 723: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Sam becomes a whipped puppy in book two. Cole is the only reason to read Linger IMO.

message 724: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Yeah, Shiver. I'm past the halfway point (FINALLY) and it has gotten better. The beginning was just like..them playing house and halfheartedly searching for people but now I think it's starting to get interesting. Dunno who Cole is..yet!!

Cole is more in book 2 Kristina.

I just finished Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins , which I enjoyed and am now reading Songs for a Teenage Nomad by Kim Culbertson .

message 727: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Broken Flower (Early Spring, #1) by V.C. Andrews - her books are guilty pleasures for me haha

message 728: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
VC Andrews scared the pants off me when I was younger!

message 729: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) Haha I read Flowers in the Attic in high school and took the entire rest of the series on a cruise with me and was hooked!

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 732 comments I finished Everlost (Skinjacker, #1) by Neal Shusterman late last night and I was pleasantly surprised! I didn't like it at all in the beginning. The story was working for me and the characters fell flat. I kept going and it slowly got better and better. I can only hope Everwild (Skinjacker, #2) by Neal Shusterman is as good as the second half of Everlost.

message 731: by Julie (new)

Julie S. I'm reading Infernal Devices Infernal Devices (The Hungry City Chronicles, #3) by Philip Reeve , and I'm enjoying it. The Hungry City Chronicles continues well...

As I have said many times I liked Graceling a lot more than Fire.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 148 comments I thought that too Bluemoon. She grows on you though. They are VERY different people and them VERY different books, but both good in their own right. I personally liked Graceling more, but that's not everyone's opinion.

message 734: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
It was still worth the read (Fire). She is a wonderful writer and Fire kicks the butt out of a lot of the crappy books out there - I just didn't love it like I did Graceling.

message 735: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yes the audiobook made it even better Bluemoon.

Everwild is a lot better, in my opinion. I liked Everlost a lot, but I also had trouble getting into it at first. But Everwild was amazing! Coincidentally, my little sister just finished reading it and she loved it too. :)

Bluemoon wrote: "I don't know how you can stomach HON series when you clearly hate it! I totally stopped on the first one"

I don't know either ... I guess I just like ranting about them, because they're so stupid. XD It gives me more appreciation for good books (and for my own writing).

message 741: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 123 comments See when it comes to HON I liked the first 2 or 3 a lot and they just progressivly got worse and I would think it might just be the last one or two since the first few were good. Wrong. It was a slow decent into suckness IMO and because I really like PC Cast I took the bait to continue. Her other YA series that her daughter isn't a part of is way better.

message 742: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm like Jaimie. I liked the first two or three HON books but they got worse as they went on. By then, I was so wrapped up in the story and wanting to know what happens that I felt like I should keep reading.

message 743: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Same … I liked the first two ... and then 3-5 were okay. But after that ... guh. I can't stand them anymore! Pretty much nothing happened in the 8th one. I don't understand how they plan to drag it out for 15 books!!!

Yeah for The Mysterious Benedict Society! I love the covers to the books in that series because before you read it, the cover means nothing to you. But when you close the book when you're done and look at the cover again, you realize that it has tons of little references to the characters and their adventures. I smile whenever I look at the covers of the first two books because they make me think about how much I loved those books.

message 745: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) I am reading Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse, #2) by Charlaine Harris !I am going in between that and the Percy Jackson series, I finished Sea of Monsters the other day and got the last 3 from the library today!
