I used to love him and that show. I think that completely dates me though :).

I loved Perfect Strangers, Heidi! ;)

I will go get that book! I threatened the kids with the book I'm listening to now in the car tonight on the way to the ballgame. Considering it's the 3rd book of a complicated series and I'm halfway in, and it's not really for younger kids, I really couldn't put it on.

But, boy, I could have used this book tonight! ;) *runs off to buy it for future*

Karen’s Library | 574 comments Bought it, Heidi. I listened to the first few minutes. Sounds cute! Thanks for the recommend!!! :)

Yay! I hope you enjoy it. It is light and fluffy but I just loved his narration! Who would have known that 2 90's actors would be such good narrators (Wil Wheaton and Bronson Pinchot!)

p.s. we just had a long conversation in my audiobook group about recommendations for people traveling in cars with teens/children and The Hero's Guide was one of the mentions.

It is not YA but I love the Kate Daniels paranormal series and it is the Kindle daily deal (all each $1.99). http://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=amb_lin...

In case anyone has not read it. Just beware the first book is a little rough around the edges but the rest get better and better.

My son read both of these books and really liked them. I sometimes wish I had long car rides so that I could listen to more audio books.

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I'm currently reading Gregor the Overlander (Underland Chronicles, #1) by Suzanne Collins and will be strongly encouraging my son to read them after he's done with Septimus Heap. Thanks for the recommendation!

I enjoyed the first Gregor book too. I listened to the audio and liked that format.

Karen’s Library | 574 comments I just finished Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3) by Laini Taylor and now I'm back to Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn . Not sure how I feel about this one yet but it finally got my attention. I'm about 40% in and just got to the major "twist".

Rachael Eliker | 2 comments Hello! I'm new to the group and am excited to see what everyone else is reading. :) Anyway, I just started Red Rock Ranch: Lucy's Chance by Brittney Joy and am loving it. It is very similar to the start of my debut novel, Headed for the Win. It's been a fun summer read so far!

Welcome Rachael!!! I have not read Red Rock Ranch or your book. I will look them both up!

Ok Racheal I looked up both books. I have never read a horse book except Black Beauty of course but two of my favorite shows revolve around horses (Wildfire and Heartland). Are you a horse lover in real life??

Really and truly! I have the same horse my family bought when I was 14 and he was 2--now he's 19 and lives in my backyard. Most of the time he's living the life (you know, eating, napping, treats), but I still ride and am teaching my daughters to ride too. :) Hope you enjoy my book. I'd love to hear what you think!

Hahahaha - told you! That book hits you like a ton of bricks. I can not sincerely today tell you whether I liked the book or not but it was sure interesting! Wait until you get to the ending! Are you reading it or listening to it Karen? I loved both narrators and thought they both did a great job.

That is so sweet that you have the same horse! I just love them. As I said earlier I am super addicted to the show Heartland and think it is a great advertisement for loving horses. Guess I have some horse books to read now :)

Kristen it was a wild ride. Like I said, I am still not sure I liked it (as my review states clearly!) but it was more like a bad car accident where I had to keep reading/looking.

Ugh...I'm so torn. I have so little reading time that I hate to waste it on a book I won't like, but twists and turns are always nice, because I find so many books predictable. I'm going to hem/haw over this one for a while :D

It was different Kristen and that alone might make it worth the read! p.s. I am nearly done with Partials and am at about 3.5 stars for it so far. I think you were asking about it earlier.

Kristen I looked through your tbr pile to see if there was anything I could recommend to you and see that you have not read The Knife of Never Letting Go The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness . Say it ain't so?? Oh how I love that series. If you don't want to read a series right now I HIGHLY recommend his other book A Monster Calls A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness or the book Ready Player One Ready Player One by Ernest Cline - both of which are in your tbr pile as well!

message 7127: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Awesome! Thanks, Heidi. I'll move those to the top of my mental list. I had meant to read Ready Player One a year ago, so I may start there.

Holy schnikes, just finished!! I didn't eat, drink, get my dog her nightly snack, NOTHING, until I finished this book. I was starving and had no idea because I was so lost in Gone Girl!

I read it, Heidi. The audio is on hold at my elibrary but it looks like it will be months before I'll get it. I didn't want to wait.

Definately a ride! I'm not sure I liked the ending. Maybe. I need to think about it. But any book that has me that invested is excellent!

I can't wait for the movie. That's why I picked it up. I saw Ben Affleck was in it. :)

I haven't had to push Chaos for awhile. I kind of missed it :)

Ashley Marie just started A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire, #4) by George R.R. Martin yesterday -- figured if I didn't it would be one of those things where I just dropped the whole series right in the middle and I didn't want to do that.

Ashley I can not get myself to read past the first book in that series. I have heard too many rumblings from fans of the series to invest myself anymore!

the most I hear is from people who watch the show, and the things I've heard ended with book 3 -- hoping to catch up on the next 2 books before I catch wind of anything else! lol

Storm of Swords (3) was probably my favorite though, aside from the first one. You just have to go into it expecting everyone to die xD

Haha it's true! I also am a huge Chaos Walking pusher. It's pretty much my go-to series when someone asks for a book recommendation.

message 7145: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Ugh...I just looked at it. First person and dystopian. Two of my least favorite things with reading. I will probably read it eventually on everyone's recommendation, but I'm really not in the mood for it now after Peregrine's (which I know isn't dystopian, but it made me yearn for a brain scrub).

Then I looked and saw Ready Player One is both of those things too. I can't escape...sigh.

message 7146: by Brigid ✩ (new)

It's really nothing like other dystopia though. It's just ... not. Trust me. XD

I always write in first person. D: But yeah there is quite a shortage of 3rd person books. The style of narration in Chaos Walking is very unique, though. It takes some getting used to but it's quite interesting! ;)

LOL to your strike-out. I know we've had in-depth discussions about this and I'm a dinosaur. Everyone wants first person these days ;). Okay, so I'm intrigued by the unique comment. You sold me.

message 7150: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Kristen wrote: "LOL, Brigid. You know I do. I'll take the leap anyway, but why can't anyone write in 3rd anymore. I so despise first person."

I feel like there's been a recent deluge of first-person present-tense, which annoys the hell out of me. Hunger Games was written really well, but after that it was like... Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant, Splintered... too many!! I'm cool with first-person past-tense, that's fine.

But I agree, my favorite is third-person :)
