That is awesome about Scott W. Brigid!

@Jenny - Yeah, The Seeing Stone was just very "meh" for me. There was nothing about it that I strongly disliked or anything, but I felt like it didn't have much of a plot/conflict and once I got to the end I didn't feel compelled to pick up the sequel. Oh well. And yeah, Half Bad has been a disappointment for me ... I also really wanted to read it and was hoping it'd be awesome, but now I'm at the very end and it still hasn't gotten any better. It's a shame because I think it had a lot of potential, but over all I've found it to be pretty boring. But a lot of reviewers have loved it, so maybe you'll like it more than I did!

@Heidi - Ahh it was awesome! I was totally starstruck! :D

With books like Half Bad, don't you itch to pick up a keyboard and rewrite it yourself?

(I haven't read that one, but I mean the ones that seem to have so much potential that doesn't pan out)

Ugh yes, totally. In fact, in a weird way it's been inspiring me to work on my own book because I'm like, "... I could probably do better than this." :P

I've been neglecting my YA TBR pile, but at least I'm reading something ^_^

Currently reading...
Books Can Be Deceiving (Library Lover's Mystery, #1) by Jenn McKinlay

I really enjoy reading this book! Heidi, if you haven't read this before, I recommend it ^_^

message 6957: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie @Brigid~ I am so in love with Code Name Verity it's not even funny.
& YAY PJO <3 I adore both Percy series. still a bit iffy on the Kane Chronicles.

I started Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1) by Melina Marchetta and it's really interesting so far, there's a really good world here and Finnikin's my favorite :)

and I just picked up The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1) by Julie Kagawa , my first Kagawa book!

Yup. I love Jenn M. she is by far my favorite cozy author. I am reading her English Hat Shoppe series right now :)

Love Finnikin (and pimp Melina M. to everyone who will hear me!) and also love Code Name Verity!

Yes I plan to snatch it up Karen even though I have already listened to it because to be honest I was soooooooooo confused for the first half I would like to re-listen to it now that I know more :)

@Ashley - Hooray! I'm glad you're loving Code Name Verity! :D And yesss I love both the PJO books and the HOO books. I like Kane Chronicles too, but not as much ... actually, I never got around to reading the third one. I should do that at some point. :P I really liked Finnikin and also The Immortal Rules, so I hope you enjoy those ones!

Anyway, I finished:

Half Bad (Half Life, #1) by Sally Green

Ehh, it didn't really work for me. I liked the writing style for the most part, but the characters fell flat for me and I felt like the plot was pretty slow/repetitive. I was hoping I'd love it, but it just wasn't my thing.

Now I'm concentrating on finishing:

Watership Down by Richard Adams Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

message 6964: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I started Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor

message 6965: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie @Brigid~ yeah I need to get started on Throne of Fire. Red Pyramid felt more middle-grade than PJO and HOO to me. I started Watership Down agessss ago (probably last year at some point) so whenever I get around to it I'll just be starting over xD

@Jenny~ me too! it feels like it starts off a little slow IMO

I snatched up Farseeer Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb for 99 cents today http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Appre... I have wanted to read it for awhile. I think it is another $4 bucks for the whispersync audio so I might snatch that up too.

Yeah, I'm not loving it like the first one but I must finish the series and see how everything is wrapped up. It's OK, it's just hard to live up to the first one.

ehh... well havent read so far in ruby blue, its not bad but somehow I have read more in katana.
Ruby blue is a fairie story, but have a feeling its one of those books that have more than one supernatural creature.as I said havent read so much, am only on the first chapter, but I love the narrators voice\writing style.

Katana is about japanese myth, (the reason I bought it) am 9 chapters in and loving it. its fresh, fast paced, funny+++
defently recomend it.its the first in a trilogy.

Ooh, I need to read the second and third books in that series. I really enjoyed the first one!

Yesterday I finished:

Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

As much as I love Scott Westerfeld, I thought this one was just okay. So ... kind of disappointing. But oh well.

Today I finished:

How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse (How to Train Your Dragon, #4) by Cressida Cowell

and also read most of:

How to Twist a Dragon's Tale (How to Train Your Dragon, #5) by Cressida Cowell

It's a cute series! :) (And I am seeing the second movie tomorrow, aahhhhh!)

Just finished up After Ever After After Ever After (Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie, #2) by Jordan Sonnenblick and I am really starting to become a fan of this author's work. His books are a great mix of humor and realism and great for all ages IMO. I also love the audiobook narrator he has for the 3 books I have read by him Nick Podehl. Nick was also my favorite of the 2 Will Grayon's on the audiobook of Will Grayson Will Grayson. He rocks.

It's written very well; I'm amazed how she remembers things that happened ten years ago, but I suppose if you're in a situation like that your memory catalog goes into overdrive.

message 6989: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Personal eyewitness accounts are also bound to be faulty (3 people witnessing the same account will rarely tell the same story); it's human nature, so it's also possible some things are filled in by false memory or semi-recollections. I think most autobiographies are that way, too. The former Mayor of DC's book came out recently and some of his memories have been debunked already, but he does truly believe that's how things happened.
I also wonder if she's also done hypnosis therapy, which can produce sharper detail in repressed memories. I'm sure after her experience she's going through extensive therapy. I can't imagine she'd be able to function otherwise.

message 6990: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie That's true. Amanda and Gina are writing a book together and it's supposed to come out next year, so that might help corroborate a bit.

message 6991: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments it should be interesting to read, though personally I don't think getting smaller details 100% right is necessary in this sort of nonfiction.

message 6992: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie at one point he gave Michelle and Gina notebooks and it sounds like some snippets are from her writings and poetry.

You really seem to be liking that Train Your Dragon series Brigid. I might look for it on audio. Hey...if it makes you feel better I listen to 3 audio books at a time AND read a print book! We are crazy but I love it!

p.s. I was not into Incarceron so I am eager to hear your thoughts. I have Hopeless on my Kindle to read sometime too.

@Heidi - Haha well they're pretty short and they go by very fast ... I'd recommend reading them in physical form because I love the illustrations and I think they add a lot to the charm of them. Over all they're very cute and funny––more middle grade than YA, so aimed at a younger audience, but good if you want something light/fun to read. :) Haha, that does make me feel better! I just get impatient and end up reading too many things at once.

I'm having kind of mixed feelings about Incarceron ... I really like the world-building and there have been some cool plot twists that I wasn't expecting. I just wish the characters were more interesting, because that's kind of its main weakness for me. So far I'm not liking Hopeless very much ... but I'll let you know if I change my mind about it.

@Becky - Yes, I'd definitely recommend them for kids! I'm hoping to get my 10-year-old brother and 8-year-old sister into them because I think they'd really like the series.
