message 6561: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments Just finished: Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Reading: Old Yeller (Old Yeller, #1) by Fred Gipson

And Tuesdays With Morrie, And Marcelo in the Real World.

It didn't occur to me until last year I had never read old yeller. So I bought it for 50 cents and its been sitting on my shelf. Since sometimes getting back into reading (which puts me in a much better mood and helps so much with relaxing etc) means shorter books Old Yeller is great, should be a quick read.

I already feel a lot mor relaxed about life events. Its amazing how much reading takes away my anxiety and how much I stress about it sometimes.

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments How was Just Ella? I heard mixed reviews for it.

I'm glad that reading is helping your anxiety. And I've never read Old Yeller either.

message 6563: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments Do you like other books by Margaret Peterson Haddix?

I enjoyed it, I could see where people wouldn't because it was a huge twist on a popular fairy tale.

Just finished Stargirl, finished Old Yeller.

I've read two other books of Haddix's and thought that they were OK. I wasn't glued to them but enjoyed them overall. I also liked the fact that they weren't extremely intense.

message 6566: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments As far as her stand alone books, I think Just Ella is my favorite thus far. I have only read 2 others though. I have read most of the shadow children series when i was a lot younger and have been trying to re-read them so I can read the books I didn't read when I was younger. I really enjoy them and I have heard great things on the missing series.

I have heard a lot of good things about some of the newer books though as well.

I started watching Warm Bodies the movie on HBO but haven't finished it. I wonder if the book is better?

message 6570: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments As with most books, I like some aspects of it (the creativity!) but not other aspects. It'll probably be the only one I read in the series.

KAYLANI: good choice. Just recently read that book too. Worth it!

Re-reading...
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer

I was starting to read Scarlet and as she talk about the event that happened in the royal ball, I realized I had no clue what she was talking about. I need to refresh my memory.

message 6580: by Karen’s Library (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments I'm reading Altered (Crewel World, #2) by Gennifer Albin . I started on audio but ended up buying on my Nook so plan to switch to ebook as soon as I can find time to read again. I was doing a lot of driving to meetings so the audio was perfect for that, but I think I'm in too much of a hurry to finish which is why I'm switching to ebook. ;-D

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
What is that series about Karen??

message 6582: by Karen’s Library (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments It's a mix of fantasy, dystopian, sci-fi and apocalyptic. Altered is the second book.

Adalice has the ability to weave time with matter and, honestly, a lot of it was above my head. Hahahaha... But it is good if you can just decide that you don't have to understand the science of it all.

I think you might like it Heidi (how's that for wishy-washy..."think" and "might"). In all seriousness though, it's pretty clever and although there are cheesy bits, I enjoyed much of the dialogue :)

Just finished reading...
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer

I planned on reading Scarlet, but as I started listening to it I realized I have no clue what happened in the previous book. So I grabbed it up and re-read it. Good thing too since I actually like it better than when I listened to it previously. So I think I'll just read Scarlet as well.
