Yup. Same here normally. Everyone warned me to just stick with it and I am so glad I did! (Same thing happened with Book Thief)

I know the feeling of wanting to read a new book more than the other ones I already started! p.s. I enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha.

It's really good so far. I'm about halfway through.
Finished:
I had mixed feelings about it. I liked the first half of it or so, then it went downhill for me ... Oh well.
Now I'm reading:
Not sure how I feel about it yet, but I guess I'll wait to pass judgment until I get to the end.

I read the Casual Vacancy a while back. I think the second half is better than the first half.
Yeah Anna Dressed in Blood was only mediocre for me. Besides, I hate when female authors write the male protagonists so angsty.
I really really liked the Casual Vacancy BUT I was lost for like the entire first half since there were so many characters. It all came together for me in the end. It is not a happy book by any means so I think that is why a lot of the reviews are not great - people wanted these happy magical things to occur and it was far from anything like that. I will say as someone who works with addicts it was a realistic portrayal of that lifestyle. Sad yes, but also realistic.

@Katie - Good to know! I think it's all right so far, but I'm waiting for it to get better.
@Heidi - I'm glad I'm not the only one ... I know a lot of people who loved it, but I thought it was just okay. And yeah, I didn't think the male perspective was very believable, either.
Haha yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at right now; I can barely keep track of who's who because there are like twenty different points of view! But I do think you're right that it all feels very realistic. I think the problem a lot of people had with it was that they weren't expecting something so real & depressing from J.K. Rowling, which I understand because it is kind of jarring ... I'm just trying not to compare it to Harry Potter because of course they're incredibly different.

btw I am half way through our monthly read Bittersweet
and I am enjoying it so far. Very nice light winter read.

Hmm I've been curious about These Broken Stars ... hopefully I can get my hands on it soon! :)
Well, I finished:
Ultimately, it was just okay for me. I liked some of the characters/storylines, but I feel like there were a few too many to follow and the perspective changes got a little confusing.
I also read all of:
It was super sweet. I really enjoyed it. :)
And now I am reading:
Which I'm liking so far.

I think the audio of Casual Vacancy helped me with the characters are the narrator used different voices. I thought Lola was sweet as well!

Woot! I just got an email that Harper Audio is offering some for under $6.50 - here is the link! http://harperaudio.hc.com/deals/
Yeah, I imagine listening to it on audio and having the different voices would have helped differentiate between the characters.

I DID buy it for $1.99 so I could get the audio for $1.99! What a deal. I already have the Nook book and listened to the elibrary version. But had to own it! ;-P
Finished:
It was pretty cool ... definitely didn't end the way I expected, and I hope to pick up the sequel sometime soon.
Today I started:
I wasn't a huge fan of the first book and I realize I've forgotten most of what happened but I decided to read this one anyway ... aaand I am pretty much completely lost––even though I'm almost halfway through it already, haha. :P

My 2 IRL book clubs are doing:
The Knife of Never Letting Go (my suggestion and vote won! :3 )
And Eleanor & Park. My Pick.
SO EXCITE TO OWN BOTH BOOKS FOR FREEEE.
Tomorrow I am going to finish Stargirl since I found it again. And read the 3rd in A Series of Unfortunate Events... then I will start tackling the pile of books on my nightstand which include:
Will Greyson, Will Greyson
Its kind of a funny story
Extremely loud and incredibly close,
The Night Circus
and #4 in HP series.

What did you think of Stargirl? I have that on audio and Love, Stargirl in print, but haven't read either yet.
Finished:
I wanted to see if I would like it better than the first book, but ... I didn't. I probably won't read the next one. >_<

Haven't finished stargirl yet. Right now it is okay. Not a favorite but worth the read. I had more left than I remembered and most of my christmas gifts this year have been homemade/handmade so i had to finish the ones I have to give in two days /procrastinating

Hey! Guess what? Our Jan. group read is the Kindle Daily Deal today! Yay! Steelheart
here is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A... Looks like the whispersync audio is $3.99 for those who like to add the audio like me!

I had a thought. For 2014 what do people think about nominating monthly book reads based on the topic "hidden gems". I think my "Around the World" book was pretty well received and not one of my GR friends had ever read it so I thought maybe there were other books out there that people loved but none of their friends has read (or very few friends have read). I have a few more in my read pile that are hidden gems IMO so wanted to check others thoughts on this for our next few monthly reads after Jan????

Yay! So glad you two like my idea. Start thinking of YA books you liked/loved but no one has really read to nominate!
