Loved Cinder and Froi. Becky beware Froi has some mature content.

I think it's an NA (which I typically don't read), sci-fi, with historical fiction (about the old time Japanese culture) thrown in. Just very different and unique. It's an Indie book. The 2nd book comes out in a couple of weeks. I can't wait. I went through withdrawals with this one.

I agree with you, Jenny, about it being one of the best book-to-movies ever. Although The Book Thief is another of those!! They tie for that honor in my mind!

Did you see the Book Thief movie Karen??

message 6355: by Karen’s Library (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments YES, Heidi. Took my MOM (who was 5 in 1938 and grew up in Nazi Germany)!! She was crying and freaking out a bit during the shelter scenes with the bombs falling. She said they would have to run to the bomb shelters everyday and sometimes 3 times a day/night. Yikes!

We both LOVED LOVED LOVED it. And she was seriously crushing on Max!! Hahaah.. She's 80!!

Oh, and every time the word SAUMENSCH or SAU anything was mentioned, she'd repeat it (loudly), shake her head and start giggling. She had me cracking up. Not sure if the other theatre goers enjoyed her doing that, but I did!

I (and probably the rest of us) had no idea your mom grew up in Nazi Germany. Whoa! What an amazing experience for her to see this movie! That is way cool. WAY cool.

BTW I've seen Catching Fire twice now - went with the girls in Wilmington and then in Ohio with Mark. Great movie both times, and so true to the book. We all talked about it (the girls have read it but not Mark). We agreed that we wished some key scenes had been in it, but still overall it was fantastic. I did notice that Suzanne Collins was one of the screenwriters. I think she has a background in TV screenwriting - so I'm sure it was a case of her being qualified to be on the team plus keep the film true to the book. They did a great job.

Awww I'm glad you and your mom enjoyed it! And wow that must have brought up some really scary memories for her ... I can't even imagine.

I saw it last week with my mom and sister and I really liked it as well. Of course nothing can compare to the book, and they left out a lot of my favorite parts, but I still thought it was a very good movie and the casting was excellent. My mom and my sister were both crying their eyes out at the end ... I got a bit teary-eyed but I actually didn't really cry; I hardly ever cry during movies for some reason. But it was still very emotional.

... Also in regards to Max's attractiveness, my sister and I both thought he was quite attractive but my mom was like "He had a creepy mustache." ... lol. :P

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments Books I need to finish:
Stargirl (Stargirl, #1) by Jerry Spinelli
Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco X. Stork

Books I need to start:
The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan
The Wide Window (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #3) by Lemony Snicket
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The ARC I just got in the mail:
Secrets and Lies Surviving the Truths That Change Our Lives by Jane Isay

And I need to write up a list of reading I need to get done each week. My lazy ass will not go out this year without a fight to at least get 100 books... or not totally dive from what I did last year :P

Now reading One Tiny Lie (Ten Tiny Breaths, #2) by K.A. Tucker which is good so far, but not the WOW factor I was hoping for.

message 6373: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I probably should have reread some of the books before reading The House of Hades because he writes it from all 7 demigods' POV so you don't have a lot of time with most of them. That made it harder to connect with some of them this time. Still a great story, though. Now the long wait until the next book.

message 6375: by Seth (new)

Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments Agh, that's kind of ridiculous. 7? That seems a little bit hard to follow. Four is hard to follow in Mark of Athena ... I forget who's talking a lot.

Yes! I loved Skipping Christmas as well, but not the Playing for Pizza one very much. But I'd still recommend all of his legal thrillers. Some are better than others, but they're still classic Grisham. I really liked The Confession by John Grisham and The Innocent Man Murder and Injustice in a Small Town by John Grisham . I've also got The Racketeer by John Grisham on my Kindle to read after I finish Sycamore Row. I'm enjoying Sycamore Row so far, it's set in the same world as A Time to Kill and I really like the lawyer in it :)

Gahh! It was wonderful. But now I have to wait so long for the next one ... ughhh. At least this one didn't have as horrible a cliffhanger as the last one. :P

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake

I've heard good things about the Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus. Which one would you recommend reading first? (If you have read both)

message 6395: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Heroes of Olympus is a spin-off of Percy Jackson; it has a lot of characters, some of whom are important characters from the first series. So I'd recommend reading Percy Jackson first. :)
