. It's blowing my mind. Soooo good!"I have never heard of it - what genre is it??"
I think it's an NA (which I typically don't read), sci-fi, with historical fiction (about the old time Japanese culture) thrown in. Just very different and unique. It's an Indie book. The 2nd book comes out in a couple of weeks. I can't wait. I went through withdrawals with this one.

I also liked it more than the first movie. IM..."I agree with you, Jenny, about it being one of the best book-to-movies ever. Although The Book Thief is another of those!! They tie for that honor in my mind!
YES, Heidi. Took my MOM (who was 5 in 1938 and grew up in Nazi Germany)!! She was crying and freaking out a bit during the shelter scenes with the bombs falling. She said they would have to run to the bomb shelters everyday and sometimes 3 times a day/night. Yikes! We both LOVED LOVED LOVED it. And she was seriously crushing on Max!! Hahaah.. She's 80!!
Oh, and every time the word SAUMENSCH or SAU anything was mentioned, she'd repeat it (loudly), shake her head and start giggling. She had me cracking up. Not sure if the other theatre goers enjoyed her doing that, but I did!
Yes, YOU of all people who is the biggest pusher of The Book Thief I've ever met, (until David and I came along, that is), MUST go see it. :-P
Karen wrote: "YES, Heidi. Took my MOM (who was 5 in 1938 and grew up in Nazi Germany)!! She was crying and freaking out a bit during the shelter scenes with the bombs falling. WAY cool.
BTW I've seen Catching Fire twice now - went with the girls in Wilmington and then in Ohio with Mark. Great movie both times, and so true to the book. We all talked about it (the girls have read it but not Mark). We agreed that we wished some key scenes had been in it, but still overall it was fantastic. I did notice that Suzanne Collins was one of the screenwriters. I think she has a background in TV screenwriting - so I'm sure it was a case of her being qualified to be on the team plus keep the film true to the book. They did a great job.

Yay! So happy to spread my book loves.

Awww I'm glad you and your mom enjoyed it! And wow that must have brought up some really scary memories for her ... I can't even imagine.
I saw it last week with my mom and sister and I really liked it as well. Of course nothing can compare to the book, and they left out a lot of my favorite parts, but I still thought it was a very good movie and the casting was excellent. My mom and my sister were both crying their eyes out at the end ... I got a bit teary-eyed but I actually didn't really cry; I hardly ever cry during movies for some reason. But it was still very emotional.
... Also in regards to Max's attractiveness, my sister and I both thought he was quite attractive but my mom was like "He had a creepy mustache." ... lol. :P

Books I need to start:
The ARC I just got in the mail:
And I need to write up a list of reading I need to get done each week. My lazy ass will not go out this year without a fight to at least get 100 books... or not totally dive from what I did last year :P

Kaylani you have a lot of books on tap! I just started Moon Over Manifest

I finished reading
and I LOVED it!!Now reading
which is good so far, but not the WOW factor I was hoping for.
We still need 3 more nominations for the Jan. group read if anyone wants to help out and nominate something please go to that thread :)
I finished both
and
, and am now about halfway through
! I love Rick Riordan.I'm also reading
for AP English.
Yay, Heroes of Olympus! I still need to read the newest one ... I think I will finally read it after I finish reading Allegiant. :) Ooh and I love Frankenstein!
I need to work on the heroes of Olympus series! I need to reread Son of Neptune, and read the next 2 books!
Bluemoon wrote: "KAYLANI: first time reading Lightning Thief?"It will be, yes. I have to finish stargirl first...
I probably should have reread some of the books before reading The House of Hades because he writes it from all 7 demigods' POV so you don't have a lot of time with most of them. That made it harder to connect with some of them this time. Still a great story, though. Now the long wait until the next book.
Wow really, all 7 of them? O_o Ahhhh! I mean I'm excited that I'll get to know more about everyone but ... wow that's a lot, haha.
Agh, that's kind of ridiculous. 7? That seems a little bit hard to follow. Four is hard to follow in Mark of Athena ... I forget who's talking a lot.
Finished:
Uhhhh. I was not a fan of the ending. Or of the book in general. x_x But now the series is over so yaaay!
Now I am FINALLY going to read:
Hooraayyy!

He wrote a hilarious Christmas book
That I recommend to everyone! Makes me think of the movie, Christmas Vacation (a classic!)

Haha yeah, I don't think you would've liked the second and third ones. :P

Thanks Jenny! I actually read Skipping Christmas and liked it -- I will look into the house one :)
I finished
and am probably going to skim through
since it's due back in a few days. I should probably just buy the books but I have a fear of my children reading them when I'm not looking. Maybe when they're a bit older.

Yes! I loved Skipping Christmas as well, but not the Playing for Pizza one very much. But I'd still recommend all of his legal thrillers. Some are better than others, but they're still classic Grisham. I really liked
and
. I've also got
on my Kindle to read after I finish Sycamore Row. I'm enjoying Sycamore Row so far, it's set in the same world as A Time to Kill and I really like the lawyer in it :)
Jenny wrote: "He wrote a hilarious Christmas book

Gahh! It was wonderful. But now I have to wait so long for the next one ... ughhh. At least this one didn't have as horrible a cliffhanger as the last one. :P
I also started:
I'm already about halfway through it; it's pretty good so far!

@BrigidI've heard good things about the Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus. Which one would you recommend reading first? (If you have read both)
Heroes of Olympus is a spin-off of Percy Jackson; it has a lot of characters, some of whom are important characters from the first series. So I'd recommend reading Percy Jackson first. :)
