Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I forgot all about Never Fade, need to get that read soon!

Spent all day reading Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth and just finished it! Still deciding what to rate it. I didn't love it nearly as much as the first two, but I felt its a strong book. The ending was heartbreaking.

message 6152: by Katie.g (new)

Katie.g Yeah I don't love the Divergent series either. I've never given it more than 3 stars. Hunger Games was much better by comparison. I still want to see how the series ends though.

I didn't hate the first book - it was just disappointing to me so I am not taking too much pleasure in the bad reviews (as I did with say Breaking Dawn). The reviews on Amazon were fun to read though because some people were really ticked off.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Ha! Breaking Dawn...you crack me up! I was mostly kidding, but I thought you'd at least find them amusing! Always drama in the book world!!

But I am quite disturbed by people making threats to the author. Some people are just crazy....it's just a book!

I am so unbelievably tempted to make a joke about threatening you (David) to finish your next book - but honestly, it's just not funny when people make any kinds of threats to an author. I constantly escape into books - but I know there are people out there for whom a book is their reality. Thankfully, these days we have medication, stress centers, and loved ones who pay attention and know signs - and can stop violent behaviour before it starts. I think the same is true for people who become unbalanced by watching a tv series or following a celebrity.

And now all I can think of are jokes about all of us who watch too much tv! LOL!

Seriously thought, when you think of all the ways we can hurt and kill people in a fictional sense, it's no wonder it sometimes translates to reality in the mind of an unstable person. I admire those authors who "take the show on the road" and bravely face the crazies. Granted, most of us are fine - but that fangirl thing has the potential to get really out of control.

message 6157: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I agree completely, Jen!

Moving on...

Finished reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and I loved it!!! Wonderful contemporary! I liked Eleanor & Park a little better, but this one was awesome--it was very NA, except for no graphic sex. In fact, the relationships did not have a lot to do with sex, it was more emotional...Rainbow Rowell is a genius at writing these kinds of things!!

Also just finished The Vile Village (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #7) by Lemony Snicket This series gets better with each book!

I am on the last part of the audiobook of Fangirl and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it too Jenny. I don't want it to end! I agree. Rainbow is becoming one of my favorite authors. I love YA authors who can take just real everyday life and make it so emotional, funny, and interesting -- just like my fav Melina Marchetta

message 6159: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments YAY, Heidi! I didn't know you were reading Fangirl, too! WOOT!!! I agree so much, I want her to keep writing! I wish she'd write as fast as David lol!

message 6160: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenwesner) I just started Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell on audio and it is fantastic. The narration is spot on. Such a pleasure when they get it so right.

Hey let's not bring up age here! hahahaha
I loved Eleanor & Park on audio -- the narrator who does Park's voice is great. The same female is narrating Fangirl and she is also excellent. Speaking of age...her books make me feel young again

I think Seth and Brigid both mentioned they like Andrew Smith - I see Winger by Andrew Smith Winger is $1.99 today so I will give it a try (it is whisper sync compatible so I can get the audio for $1.99 as well). http://www.amazon.com/Winger-Andrew-S...

Amreen | 33 comments Finally finished The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater . I think I'd been snoring through it for two weeks now. I tried desperately to enjoy it but the magic in the first one (which I enjoyed immensely) just wasn't there this time around for me. *Sigh*. Nonetheless, I know a lot of my friends loved it and I don't regret picking it up.

Aww I thought The Dream Thieves was amazing, better than the first book in my opinion. *Shrugs*

Thanks for the update on Winger, Heidi! I've been meaning to read it for a while. :)

I finally started:

The Final Descent (The Monstrumologist #4) by Rick Yancey

I'm not too far into it but it's good so far! Also I learned yesterday that Simon & Schuster almost didn't publish it because they thought the series wasn't selling well enough. ... The same week they made a multi-book deal with Hilary Duff. I just. WTF.

I know, right? Hopefully more people will read them now that The 5th Wave is so popular (although if people expect it to be similar to The 5th Wave ... ah hahahahahaha ... ha). But yeah, it's pretty terrible. At least they changed their minds ... still, they basically canceled his contract and didn't even tell him until after the third book was published, and then they got angry with him when his fans started writing them letters demanding they publish the fourth one. *Headsmack*

Just started The Runaway King The Runaway King (The Ascendance Trilogy, #2) by Jennifer A. Nielsen on audiobook. Finished Fangirl and loved it!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished The Dark Unwinding (The Dark Unwinding, #1) by Sharon Cameron and I loved it! It was actually a good book for Halloween, it had the creepiness factor surrounding a mystery! I just love Steampunk

Reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine, #1) by Ransom Riggs and OMG, this is so creepy, but just amazing! Who has read this one? If you haven't, its def worth reading!

message 6196: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) The past little while, my reading has been all over in terms of genres:

And Then Life Happens A Memoir by Auma Obama - this is the autobiography of President Obama's sister; I recently interviewed her for my radio show - a very cool lady and a fascinating story about the extended Obama family and Kenya.

The Cloud Seeders by James Zerndt - a lovely, moderately dystopian (ie not depressing) story with great character development and good conversations. I think it's free on Kindle right now. Worth picking up.

Capital Heights by Sam Best - I really like this author a lot, and he did a solidly good job on this detective story.

The Earth Dwellers (The Dwellers, #4) by David Estes - the grand finale of both the Dwellers series and the Country series. Good but not my favourite of the lot (I really liked the Country series best).

Vampire Moon (Vampire for Hire, #2) by J.R. Rain , American Vampire (Vampire for Hire, #3) by J.R. Rain and Moon Child (Vampire for Hire, #4) by J.R. Rain - all from the Vampire for Hire series. Not your typical vampire story at all (and I mean that in a very good way); the main character is awesome - a soccer mom, private detective and vampire.

Replenish Experience Radiant Calm and True Vitality In Your Everyday Life by Lisa Grace Byrne - this is a holistic health approach geared for mothers - very good, well written with easily applicable suggestions.

Those all look cool, Vered! And that's so cool you got to interview Obama's sister! :)

I finally finished Fire and Ash ... It was just okay for me, honestly.

Yesterday I also finished:

Travelers by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

And now I am reading:

The Final Descent (The Monstrumologist #4) by Rick Yancey The Mahabharata by Anonymous Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

I've heard nothing but good things about Fangirl so I'm excited about it! And yeah, I really liked the first two Benny Imura books ... The third and fourth ones I still liked but just not nearly as much. Yay, Final Descent! I'm loving it so far, but that's no surprise I guess. XD

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.
Not YA but classic. found a lot of free but also questionable YA books. have to sort through those. Read Dead End by Barry Friedman, free and worth the read in my opinion.
