Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments Karen - I loved Speaker for the Dead. One of my favorite books of all time. And I thought Ender's Game was boring:) So I would definitely give it a shot, reguardless of your feelings towards Ender's Game.

Also, just finished reading Cinder! I enjoyed it, and it was a good break from heavier, more emotional reads! Now I am staring Flesh & Bone, since I am already planning on reading the fourth book with Heidi :)

Yay, Cinder is awesome! And I loved Scarlet even more ... although pretty much everyone else I know who has read both liked the first book more, so maybe it's just me. :P And Flesh & Bone is pretty good ... not my favorite of the series but I still liked it. And I'm going to join you guys in reading the fourth one! I'm scared to see how it ends, haha.

Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments From what I've heard the fourth book was a good ending to the series too! I am happy you are joining us! I miss you brigiddddd. But I generally struggle with endings ... So I guess we'll see how I feel! I am excited though.

Karen’s Library | 574 comments I loved it!

Currently reading Light (Gone, #6) by Michael Grant and Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I will probably finish Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) by Leigh Bardugo tonight!

Karen’s Library | 574 comments I'm being a slow poke today. Been web surfing too much and watched a couple movies and napped, of course! Hahah...

Just preordered Monsters (Ashes Trilogy, #3) by Ilsa J. Bick and found Ashes (Ashes Trilogy, #1) by Ilsa J. Bick on sale for $1.99 on Nook so bought that. It's $1.39 on Kindle! I have a couple copies (hardback and paperback) but needed to complete my Nook library. I think I'm going to reread the first 2 before reading Monsters.

I miss you toooo! And yeah, endings are always pretty tough, especially when it's to a whole series. So, I'm kind of nervous. But we'll see. :P

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I just finished Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) by Leigh Bardugo , and I loved it, I think about the same as Shadow and Bone, if not a little better. It was very different from the first book, I think way more intense. The beginning was action packed and lots of fun, the middle was slower, but we got a new character, the prince. The dynamic between him, Mal and Alina was a lot of fun. Then things turned heartbreaking towards the end, and the ending was incredible and crazy insane action!

message 5961: by Jen (last edited Sep 08, 2013 07:37PM) (new)

Jen (jenwesner) Well, I gave Shadows (Ashes Trilogy, #2) by Ilsa J. Bick a try but had some audio trouble - so I switched to The Book Thief by Markus Zusak . Very, very good stuff.

W.J. Lennox | 48 comments After so much hype around City of Bones, decided to give it a whirl. Didn't have high expectations as grew up with the Lost Boys, Buffy etc (Showing my age here)so felt had done that, bought the t-shirt. It did enjoy it part, Cassandra's Clare use of descriptive writing was very good in places, although a bit too many similes and metaphors at times throughout. It was definitely a page turner with lots of action and some unexpected twists. I did feel there were a few similarities to Harry Potter and even Buffy in the characterisation and plot. Overall, a decent read and I'm sure it will appeal to a particular age group, just didn't blow me away.

message 5967: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Yeah, I hear you, I enjoyed the first book but not as much as I thought I would. But then the second and third books got better and better. In my opinion the series should have ended there, I wasn't that enthralled with the 4th book and I really didn't like the fifth. But I loved all of the prequel series The Infernal Devices :)

Jen (jenwesner) OK, lotsa lotsa lotsa waffling going on. I started The Book Thief by Markus Zusak last night - but I really want to get the amazingness of it and I'm just not in the mood - it's not grabbing me! I hate that! So I am instead going to start The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) by Alexandra Bracken today and see how that goes. I'm so ADD and fickle right now, real life is up in the air, about to move, major life changes . . . here's to a good dystopian to solve all the world's problems! Talk about irony!

I agree with what David said. I think the style is still fairly wordy, but I think the characters and plot are more developed. Over all I think it's a better series than Mortal Instruments, although I don't know if you would like them.
