Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I LOVE the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series! I need to reread it soon, so I can read the final book!

I finished Fyre (Septimus Heap, #7) by Angie Sage and it was a great end to a great series. I also found out there is going to be a spin off series set in the same world! YAY!

Also finished The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo and it was such a cute book, I loved it!

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments Wow, I went away for a weekend and this thread had a ton of new comments on it. Well, I didn't get any reading done this weekend but I'm super excited to hear that Jenny loved Fyre (Septimus Heap, #7) by Angie Sage . I'm just waiting for my library to get it in.

And I'll be stopping at the library later to pick up Inkheart (Inkworld, #1) by Cornelia Funke for the buddy read.

Kara (greathera77) | 30 comments I am in the middle of Jurassic Park I took a break to read The 5th Wave
I love the movie so much I figured I had to read the book, It's got a lot more info and certain situations make a whole lot more sense then they do in the film version.

Jenny and Becky I was going to try Septimus Heap but worried it was too middle grade. Seems like you both like it so I would assume you recommend it?? Have either of you listened to it on audiobook??

I haven't Heidi. It is definitely a MG series, but I really enjoyed it. Its very well written, and make me think a lot of Harry Potter. Not as good, of course, but the author ties things together really well like JK Rowling. Great characters, and a great little magical world. The kids are also all smarter than the adults which is hilarious! Some great funny moments throughout.

I did not listen to it on audio. The first book is a bit slow and predictable but I really bought into the series after the second book. It's somewhat like Harry Potter in that the books get a little darker and more complex the further into the series you go. Not quite as dark as HP and as Jenny said, not as good, but still a fun series in my opinion.

I listened to the sample of Magyk on audio and liked the narrator so I am going to try it. I will keep your comments in mind ladies :) Thanks!

Lloyd | 110 comments I've been reading The Walking Dead for a long time now (the past month or so) and am just working on finishing up volume 16. I'm about ready to take a break. Problem is...I still haven't been gripped by the calling for reading a novel. I WANT to, but I'm still kinda burned out and don't know what I would like. I'm tired of series. I'm tired of the same ol' or variations thereof. Need something different and GOOD!

Sigh.

I am listening to Inkheart on audiobook for our buddy read - other than that I am reading/listening to non Ya books. I should be done with my hubby's beloved Suttree on audiobook this week (it is 18 hours long *sigh*) so I can free up more time for less serious books!

message 5678: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished reading Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer and I agree with both David and Jen, if that's possible! I liked it and gave it 4 stars, but I get David's point about something missing. I think it was because it was such a narrow narrative. I want to read the rest of the series, though.

Also finished The End Games by T. Michael Martin and it disappointed me a little. I gave it 3 stars. The concept and mystery of it was cool, but I just didn't like the style of writing.

Finished This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith and I loved this one, a great fun contemporary, although not realistic.

Read Rise (Eve, #3) by Anna Carey and this one really disappointed me. It was a terrible ending book of the trilogy. If you have not read the Eve trilogy, I definitely don't recommend it based solely on this book. I gave it 3 stars and that was being generous.

Also finished The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1) by Carrie Ryan and I enjoyed it, it was very creepy! I will be reading the rest of this series.

Then started my reread of Inkheart (Inkworld, #1) by Cornelia Funke and loving it so far!

Also going to read Wool Omnibus (Silo, #1) (Wool, #1-5) by Hugh Howey today and maybe I'll get to Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

I just started Inkheart (Inkworld, #1) by Cornelia Funke on audio.

Also got carried away with Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howey , switching back and forth from audio to ebook with whispersync. I wanted to read Wool (Wool, #1) by Hugh Howey with you guys, but being sick yesterday, I just kept going. Whoopsies! I guess you guys realize by now that I really like the Silo series. I'm going to reread Shift Omnibus Edition (Silo, #2) (Wool, #6-8) by Hugh Howey next and then I think Dust (Silo, #3) by Hugh Howey releases in a couple of weeks!

I think that's all Harold does, Wendy. :-) Once I get mine done, I'll start snatching some of the ones I don't know. I went into reviews when I did my others and just picked interesting descriptions I found.
