Still need to get to the Testing. I am nearly done with The 5th Wave so I will wait a little bit because I don't like to change genres in between books.

How do you like it?? I rated it 3.5 stars - I liked the concept more than the story.

David I am strangely liking it more than I expected with all the warnings I was given. The love story is ridiculous and IMO unnecessary but it a really small part of the actual book so it is not impacting me too much. I should be done soon.

Lol I'm glad! I'm not sure I'd consider the love story a small part though, but I do agree it was painfully silly and unnecessary. Hope you continue to like the book though!

Well you know how I hate insta love so we are on the same page there. What I meant is that if it were pages upon pages of sappy love offerings I would have thrown it across the room! So far it has juts been a few (view spoiler) Like I said I am not done yet so if he cranks up the sappy stuff I may change my opinion!

Yeah, that aspect of it really took away from the book for me. Part of what I love so much about the Monstrumologist books is that there's no sappy romance in them. :P So, Rick Yancey really disappointed me there ...

Yeah I like about 2.5% romance 97.5% action/story in my dystopian books :) I do have a question for those who loved Divergent Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth but did not love The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey The 5th Wave --- could you tell me why you liked Divergent more?? This is a serious question because as some know I was disappointed by Divergent due to it's Mary Jane - insta love - serious lack of back story issues and I can't help but compare the two books and like the 5th Wave just a tiny bit more. I know they are different books but it seems like people who loved Divergent should love the 5th Wave yet that is not happening among some of my GR friends that I can see.

message 5626: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments For me, it was more about how much I loved Tris & Four, and how much I didn't like Cassie & Evan. And not just as a couple: I just didn't connect at all with Cassie. And Evan was just kinda creepy to me. And I like the story better in Divergent, I love how its set up, and I love the plot twists.

message 5627: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Thanks Jenny! I was seriously wondering about this comparison so I appreciate your thoughts. I thought Tris was a total Mary Sue/Jane - she reminded me a lot of Bella from Twilight. Four was interesting to me though. I agree about Evan in 5th Wave - there is a serious lack of character building with him. The lack of world building in Divergent really got to me. I am nearly done with the 5th Wave and to me I have the similar feeling I had with Divergent where everyone raved about it and and I was all like "meh" :) Sorry but after Chaos Walking I am really really picky. I am also like 30 years too old for anyone to care about my opinion! hahahaha

message 5628: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments LOL I care about your opinion! I was very meh with the 5th Wave as well. It just didn't absorb me, which is the true mark for me on a five star read. If I'm totally sucked into the world, its getting 5 stars! And Divergent and Insurgent did that for me.

What Jenny said, I'm on exactly the same page as her. I really didn't like Cassie (a lot because she fell for the creepy guy and wasn't consistent) and Evan (because he was creepy and predictable). I just liked Tris and Four more, although I didn't love them either. But I did find the concept behind Divergent way more original than 5th Wave.

And I appreciate your opinion too Heidi!

BAHAHA!!! No, you're not too old that we don't care about your opinion. At my brother's wedding last night (!), my 92 year old granny was up dancing the night away. Which has nothing to do with reading, but it has everything to do with 'age doesn't matter'.

Karen’s Library | 574 comments Well, my body feels every part of 55 but my mind doesn't! I'm taking this body scuba diving in 4 weeks. Haven't been diving since 2004. THIS if going to be interesting! I used to teach scuba, so hopefully it'll be just like riding a bike and my body's memory will kick in. Eep. Thank goodness we're weightless under water.
