Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished it late last night, Wendy, and I ended up loving it! It was really good, the best book I've read by Leigh T. Moore so far! I can't wait for the sequel!

I need to look up this Rouge - never heard of it before!

Wendy I started Demon King this morning and the narrator is good so far. :)

Jenny I still need to get to 5th Wave - I want to listen to the audio because I know some others were not as into it but sometimes if it is a good narrator it can improve the book. None of my libraries have added the audio yet so I may have to bring my only Audible credit on it. Have you read Yancy's Monstrumologist series?? I can't remember?

message 5253: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments No I haven't, Heidi, although I want to! I think I'll like the 5th Wave, but I'm a little nervous because David wasn't a huge fan of it, although Karen liked it more I think...I always go off of those two lol! Although I also like just about every book that you do, too, Heidi!

I finished Rouge, and it was so good--very very dark. It reminded me a little of the movie Moulin Rouge as far as themes and circumstances, but there was little comedy to it. There will be a sequel for it later this year I think. I would classify it has historical romance. Normally Leigh writes contemporaries, so I was really impressed with this one! It takes place in New Orleans, the MC is a homeless caberet singer orphan.

Would you recommend I start with another Leigh book first?? I have never read anything by her. I looked up Rouge and it looked interesting.

Yeah when David is not in love with a book I am always weary because he is so much nicer than I am about books! I am pretty picky. If I love something you will hear about it though (a lot)! I loved all 3 of the Monstrumoligist books but they are dark and scary.

I think that The Demon King would have been better on audio for me. It kind of dragged in places but the overall story was good. I still need to read the second book.

I'll keep you updated - it is the same narrator for the entire series so I will also rate her for you after I am done. Sometimes fantasy and dystopian books are better on audio for me - not always but sometimes.

Since I'm really bad at summarizing a book I copied the synopsis:

Ally Ryan would rather be in Maryland. She would rather be anywhere, in fact, than Orchard Hill, site of her downfall. Well, not hers exactly—but when your father’s hedge fund goes south and all your friends lose their trust funds, things don’t look so sunny for you. Her mother moved her to Maryland to flee the shame, but now they’re moving back. Back to the country-club, new-car-every-year, my-family-came-over-on-the-Mayflower lifestyle that Ally has outgrown. One bright spot, however, is gorgeous, intense Jake Graydon. But it won’t be easy for the two of them to be together—not if his friends (her former friends) have anything to say about it. Is Ally ready to get thrown back into the drama of the life she left behind?

I love cozy mysteries and some regular mysteries - I only like romance/chick lit if it is done right and not sappy. My favorite YA author is Melina Marchetta - she writes contemporary books. I would say for the most part I like YA contemporary - then YA fantasy- then YA dystopian. As I said YA paranormal is my least favorite - I only really loved Hex Hall Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins

YAY! I can't wait to see what you think of it. But, like Becky said, it's not necessarily a fast paced book. But it was good. And each book is better, with the final book Crimson Crown being INCREDIBLE! (Becky, I hope you keep reading because Demon King is really just the ground work.)

On another note, Heidi, in my opinion you won't like Rouge.

I'm quite a way through the book now...I have to say I really don't enjoy Cassie's POV. I really liked Zombie's (Ben) and I was so mad that it left off right when it did! That was my favorite part of the book so far, with him and Ringer.

Anna is the best! Lola was good too but St. Clair has my heart :) I really enjoyed Amy & Roger so let me know if you start it. Two of my favorite romances are Anne & Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables and Taylor and Jonah Griggs from On the Jellicoe Road.
