(it doesn't show up yet!) I have downloaded it and I am getting ready to dive in! I loved the first book, from I can see on the website there will be 4 more! I love a good series!

A foster kid gets a scholarship to a ritzy private high school, only when a arrives, there are no adults and he's locked in. There are video camera and rules and punishments for breaking the rules. So far it's alright, I'm interested in who's behind it all I guess. Only 20% in so far :)

Almost done with:

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) by Alexandra Bracken

I really enjoyed the first half of it, but the second half has been a bit rough for me. Also the main character gets on my nerves, but most of the other characters are pretty cool.

I also started an ARC of:

Tumble & Fall by Alexandra Coutts

Finished:

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) by Alexandra Bracken

I liked it for the most part ... but it got a bit boring in the second half.

Started:

What's Left of Me (The Hybrid Chronicles, #1) by Kat Zhang

I'm already like 3/4 of the way through it. I think it's really cool so far. :)

And I'm still working on:

Tumble & Fall by Alexandra Coutts

Although I have to read it on my computer, so that kinda sucks.

How about Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles #1) by Melina Marchetta or Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, #1) by Lian Hearn ???

Kristenj2009 | 22 comments Hi everyone, I'm new and I just want to ask, does the Sookie Stackhouse and Skulduggery Pleasant series count as YA?

Oh, and also, has anyone read Crewel Crewel (Crewel World, #1) by Gennifer Albin Gennifer Albin and if so, how was it? I'm thinking of reading it after I've finished Matched by Ally Condie.

Lloyd | 110 comments Heidi (Seriously. Trust me.) wrote: How about Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles #1) or Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, #1)??? "

Your suggestion of Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, #1) by Lian Hearn raised an eyebrow. I definitely want to get to that one soon. I've been wanting to read that for years.

I'm probably going to step away from YA for a bit. I've been having a great time re-reading Locke and Key, Vol. 1 Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill (which was even better the 2nd time) and am now into my re-read of Locke and Key, Vol. 2 Head Games by Joe Hill (and will keep going through the current stuff I haven't gotten to yet). I've been so impressed by it as a matter off fact that I'm going to read Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill next. I loved his dad's books, I love his graphic novel, I'm betting I'll probably enjoy is novels too. :)

Sookie is not YA to me - very mature but you can list any book you are reading on here YA or adult! I have not read Skulduggery but think that is considered YA. And welcome welcome btw!

Kristenj2009 | 22 comments Btw, have you read the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix ( I love that name!) ? I accidentally read the 2nd book, Lirael Lirael (Abhorsen, #2) by Garth Nix first and it was Awesome. After I finished the series I went back and read the 1st book, Sabriel, Sabriel (Abhorsen, #1) by Garth Nix but it wasn't half as good as the 2nd and I don't regret starting with Lirael. You should try it sometime.

Babyfacedpreacher | 10 comments Love those Gareth Nix books Kirstenj.

I'm currently reading Annabel Pitcher, 'Ketchup Clouds' (dunno how to embed the picture in the thread on my phone!) not so sure about it, the story is pretty good but I have issues with the fact that its being told as a letter but it's freakishly well-written and then there are a few teenage-isms thrown in...might be changing my time by the end though as I'm only 30% in.
Also reading Michael Grant, 'Gone' have given up after 2% when I realised what would happen to nursing babies if it was real (the mammy in me was very upset), it's an alright concept so I will be back to it!
Just finished the first 3 of Robert Muchamore's Cherub series - Love them!! and 'Level 2' by Lenore Applehans-wasn't feeling the love for this one!
I'm sure I'm too new to have missed any John Green love-fest but read 'The fault in my stars' and 'Looking for Alaska' recently and they are fantastic. Would highly recommend them!

LOVED Will Grayson and Fault in Our Stars - John Green rocks. I read the first two Gone books and IMO they get even more disturbing. I could not invest myself into a 6 book series (at least not that one) so I stopped.

Kristenj2009 | 22 comments Really, my dad is busy reading the last book in the gone series and he is totally loving it. I'm about 30 percent into Matched by Ally Condie and ISP far so good, but I had to put it aside for exams. *sigh*

I know a lot of Gone series lovers. It was just not a subject/series I could see reading 6 books about but that is not to say it was bad - just not for me :) I skipped Matched because a lot of people told me I would not like it -- hope you like it though :)

Babyfacedpreacher | 10 comments Maybe I should just stop where I am with them now so Heidi! My little sister is an English teacher in London and her 11 year olds are gobbling up those Michael Grant books! Even for the bit I've read I think I prefer John Marsden's 'Tomorrow when the War Began'.
I haven't read Will Greyson, another one for the 'to-read' list.

message 5095: by Karen’s Library (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments I've read the first two in the Gone series and plan to read the rest. I really enjoyed the first two and want to see where this all goes!

I just finished reading Warpaint (Apocalypsis, #2) by Elle Casey and delved right into Exodus (Apocalypsis, #3) by Elle Casey . I feel like I've become addicted to these books! I'm also going to read Unraveling (Unraveling, #1) by Elizabeth Norris next for a buddy read.

Heck no! My LEAST favorite genre is YA paranormal - to be honest I kind of hate it and thanks to Twilight that is the majority of YA books now! I like a good dystopian book but since Hunger Games came out there are also a lot of subpar dystopian books too IMO (Chaos Walking being the exception as well as fellow group member David's Country series). I like some fantasy - but it has to be well rounded. I am kind of rambling here but I guess most of my favorite books are more realistic fiction. To be honest if a book is well written I don't care what genre it is! I don't like dumbed down fiction and get sad when subpar writers sell millions of books when less well known better writers have to work second jobs to pay the bills. How about you?? Any favorites??

I read the first Tomorrow book and wasn't quite hooked - does it get better with each book? Have you read Chaos Walking? I highly recommend Will Grayson - it does have a few gay characters and some foul language but that doesn't bother me.

When you say realistic fiction, do you mean like boy in the striped pajamas realistic or something else?

It is impossible for me to have a Fav. Book but I have a few top series namely, Artemis Fowl Vampire Academy, Percy Jackson, Elemental Assassin and a couple others.

While YA- paranormal isn't my Favourite, I do enjoy it from time to time. While I do agree with you about the subpar books, some really cool series have come about from following book writing trends (with the exception of Vampire Diaries. That series should be ripped up and left to burn, Burn, BURN. Sorry. I just really don't like that series.)

Hahaha - no need to be sorry here! I love to hear other peoples opinions. Sometimes it seems like everyone is just so darn agreeable! Seems like you are into the fantasy genre with your picks. Realistic fiction to me is On the Jellicoe Road On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta The Book Thief The Book Thief by Markus Zusak The Boyfriend List: 15 Guys, 11 Shrink Appointments, 4 Ceramic Frogs and Me, Ruby Oliver The Boyfriend List 15 Guys, 11 Shrink Appointments, 4 Ceramic Frogs and Me, Ruby Oliver (Ruby Oliver, #1) by E. Lockhart The Fault in Our Stars The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - I loved all of those
