I won't give up entirely on YA. And yes, Heidi, I will eventually read The Book Thief. :)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Yup, Lloyd, I'd say if you are looking for fulfilling entertainment, The Book Thief is way up on my list. I'd even go as far as to say one of the best books I've read in... well, a very long time!

Hmmm. I might still read it, but it's not that high on my priorities list.

Right now I'm almost done with:

Cassidy Jones and the Secret Formula (Cassidy Jones Adventures, #1) by Elise Stokes

It's pretty good. Light, fun reading. :)

And I need to get back to:

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) by Alexandra Bracken

P.S. To all you Angelfall fans, Susan Ee is doing a Q&A on Goodreads! So if you have any questions for her, you can ask them in this group. :D

My only question to her (Susan) is when the hell book two is coming out!

Hahaha, I'm sure a lot of people are asking that question. XD (Also, I think it's coming out on October 10th.)

Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments Hi everyone! It's been quite a while: But I recently finished:
The Secret Journal of Brett Colton by Kay Lynn Mangum and it was awesome. It's LDS fiction, so probably not many of you are terribly interested in reading it, but it was fantastic :D I also recently read Prodigy (Legend, #2) by Marie Lu , the second Legend book, and it was flippin' fantastic. And then I read Tears of a Tiger (Hazelwood High, #1) by Sharon M. Draper and thought that it was positively terrible. Gah. Hated it. but I had to read it for English (Why? WHY? WHYYYYY?) Now I'm reading A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness , Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie , and Necromancing the Stone (Necromancer, #2) by Lish McBride
I've been reading Necromancing the Stone for a while, and I just can't seem to get into it like I did the others. Crossed is an easy, light read and I don't hate it. A Monster Calls is freakin awesome.

Pragya (reviewingshelf) Reading Rule (Marked Men, #1) by Jay Crownover

message 5026: by Rani (new)

Rani Killian (ranik86) | 3 comments Nearly half way through What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen haven't had much time to take much notice of it being I'm a new mum of a 5 month old :) so I only get to read for 45mins when he is asleep but so far I'm liking it although Mclean does ramble on a bit about descriptions etc.

message 5027: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 110 comments Started reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky . Not quite the book I expected to find myself into right now, but I'm just going with it.

I also used an iTunes gift certificate my sister got me for my birthday last night to buy the Locke & Key digital comics (which were on sale until through today). I've read the first four volumes, but like them so much I know I'll re-read them. So I started my re-read of those last night with Locke and Key, Vol. 1 Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill . This is probably the best horror comic I've read in decades. And it's been even better the 2nd time around. (Can't wait to get to the "new" stuff!)

Rani I tried one Dessen book awhile back and don't think she is for me - are you a fan?

Pragya and Emma I haven't heard of any of your reads!

David you haven't read Rot & Ruin??

message 5030: by Karen’s Library (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments Heidi (Seriously. Trust me.) wrote: "What is Pure about Karen??"

It's 9 years after nuclear bombs went off and the Pures refer to those who survived intact from the fallout inside the "dome". Those who survived but who were outside the dome are the "wretched". The descriptions of the wretched are horrifying! They're "fused" with items they were holding, or next to, including each other. The pure MC has just escaped from the dome. I'm about a third in. The narrators are good.

Finished:

Cassidy Jones and the Secret Formula (Cassidy Jones Adventures, #1) by Elise Stokes

It was pretty good. Kind of middle-grade for my taste I think, but it was still a fun read.

I'm getting more into:

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) by Alexandra Bracken

Double squee! I nearly forgot to use some of my gift card to buy Vered's second Dragon & Myth book. That has since been rectified with my purchase of Dragon's War (Dragon & Myth #2) by Vered Ehsani . And I still have a little left for Flesh & Bone - yay! Thanks again David!

Lloyd | 110 comments So I'm not only working on The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and Locke and Key, Vol. 1 Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill , but I also started rereading another long-time favorite illustrated science fiction story, Dreadstar The Beginning by Jim Starlin in anticipation of my recent Amazon purchase of Dreadstar Omnibus Vol. 1 by Jim Starlin . This story has stuck with me for 30 years and is still just as great to this very day.

Oh yeah, all you Chaos Walking fans checked this out?

www.chaoswalkingstories.com

There is a link where they will email you the new short stories offered in the latest printings of the books. One is The New World that was already offered via Amazon Kindle, but there are two other ones I can't wait to read! Only downside (for me) is that they have to be read on-line and I can't put them on my Kindle.

:-) Thanks, Heidi! Enjoy (crosses fingers nervously)

I'm working through a book a local writer gave me to read - it's not up on Goodreads, I'll have to tell him to get on! It's about 5 youth caught up in tribal clashes. Based on real events. Fascinating in a horrific sort of way.
