What We're Reading on Our Kindles ...
Hi - I am a new member to the group. I am currently reading The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande. I am @ 36% and so far it is very interesting.

Hey Sonya, I read The Stand, it was my first Stephen King book - long but I really enjoyed the way King talked about how everyone had to overcome the challenges of living in a world where they had to recreate society and laws, not to mention managing all the death around them, their future, etc. To be honest, the end was not to my liking but as I've found reading other King's novels, the journey is the best part.

I truly hated that book. It wasn't badly written. I just hated it.

Hated it? I can't say I feel that strongly about it. It hasn't really caught my attention much yet. It just rambles...but then again I'm not usually into romance books either.

I've read Andrew E. Kaufman's The Lion, The Lamb, The Hunted (actually several times because I helped with the book behind the scenes) and I will say it truly is an awesome book. You'll enjoy it, Melissa!
I'm taking a short reading break because I'm not so sure I can top that one at the moment.

I felt like gouging my eyes out with a spoon but felt the need to finish it because it was a goodreads summer read. I got about 3 chapters from the end.
The thing I hated the most was that the end was the start....

Interesting. I'm not gouging my eyes out yet, but having a hard time getting myself to read it.

Earth: An Intimate History, for a GR group read.
And in hardback, The Tribe of Tiger about cats. Started this once several years ago but never finished it. Don't know why as it's quite good.
Very boring but i have just read the smashwords style guide as i had to improve the formatting of my e book

I absolutely loved it. One of the greats. How could you not like it? no offence intended!

Has anyone read Fall Of Giants by Ken Follett. I loved it!

Well mainly because I like a book that has a start, middle and end and this book had an end, start then middle.
Odd, out of order, boring story line, hated characters. I just don't get why it is loved so much. Yes, it is wrote extremely well but it's such a hard book to get into cause it is so, boring.

Betsy, I like how you usually have multiple books at the same time. I get too interested in one and don't want to take time away from reading it.

What are GR group reads?

Yvette, I read those in succession as well. I had resisted reading them because of the genre but thoroughly enjoyed them. Enjoy.

Goodreads group reads. Books selected to be read by a Goodreads group usually during a specified time.

I didn't think I would enjoy them...I had been putting off reading them as well. Glad I decided to give them a try. :D

I understood that you meant Goodreads Group Reads. I just don't know how to find them. What groups have group reads? Are they genre specific? Author? I don't belong to many groups.

Out of everyone she was the most likeable character, and the end just felt like a... well not an ending.

It really depends on the group. This one doesn't have group reads; it wouldn't really make sense. But many genre specific groups do. I belong to a Science and Inquiry group which has group reads every month. I also belong to a Fans of Maps group which just started group reads. It depends on what you're interested in. I suggest you go to the main groups page (click on Groups on the top menu bar) and either search for a topic you're interested in or just browse until you find something that clicks for you. If they have group reads, the currently-reading books should show on the home page for the group.

I haven't watched "It's a Wonderful Life" yet, but I did catch the 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol" Monday night. That's been a staple in our family since I was a little girl, and the Ghost of Christmas Future still freaks me out! lol
