I have just finished John Grisham's "The Confession" it was a really good, but I would say that as I really like all his books.
I just started The Stand. It was highly recommended by a bunch of people and I've never actually read any Stephen King. I'm only about a chapter in so far.Has anyone here read it? Thoughts?
As a long-time Stephen King fan, I was SUPER excited to read The Stand. However, I had a hard time getting into the story line for the first half of the book. The bit-and-pieces of the story started to come together about half way through the book and then I could hardly put it down. Overall, definitly worth the read. :) Try Swan Song by Robert MacCammon..EXCELLENT..on the same lines!

I read it years ago in my stephen king-phase! I actually think this is his best book (next to green mile) and it is back in my TBR file on the kindle :o) it is not quite as spooky as some of the rest. I know it is a really thick book, so can be a bit long winded at points esp with loads of characters getting introduced at the beginning - but it's really good!
Enjoy it!
I'm about 80% done with the
(only $0.99)!! and may pick up the second one in the series...(depending on the ending)
after I'm done! also $0.99!! Happy reading =)
I'm reading Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers for a GR group read (funny and fascinating), Border Songs (highly recommended but I've had trouble getting into it), and Midnight Riot (London police mystery involving wizards and supernatural creatures -- not a typical urban fantasy, rather a true police procedural with some odd characters; I'm enjoying it so far)
Well, i love looking for the free books, but i just bit the bullet and boiught a new one entitled " The Pirate Prince" by Gaelen Foley. I'm going thru a pirate phase and no it's not due to the POTC movies with Johnny Depp, I actually can't stand those movies. And I looovve my Kindle!! I've converted awhole slew of people to get one. Lol, I should be a salesperson!!
:), Kelly
There are a TON of free pirate books (old ones, mainly). 19th century tales of salty adventure. I bought a whole bunch of them on last year's Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Shannon wrote: "I just started The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson and when I'm finished with that I'm going to start the GR Book Challenge A Visit From the Goon Squad!"I enjoyed that one. Hope you like it too!
I JUST finished reading Accidents waiting to happen and how I'm 25% done with Catching fire (the second book in the hunger game series). Accidents Waiting to happen was a pretty good bookAccidents Waiting to Happen. I enjoyed reading it. Catching Fire is already good but I expected that since the first book was good and everyone raves about the hunger games series (YA books)
Catching Fire
Just started reading this afternoon. I'm not too far into it though only a few chapters but so far it seems interesting.
I just met up with a friend who now lives in the USA and discovered she too has bought a kindle - we were supposed to be anti-ebook!
Betsy wrote: "I'm reading Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers for a GR group read (funny and fascinating), Border Songs (highly recommended but I've had trouble getting into it..."Her other two books are really good too. Boink and Spook
I finished all of the Kate Daniels series:Magic Bites,Magic Burns,Magic Strikes,Magic Bleeds and Magic Slays. One word: Awsome!
I've been reading so much as well. I just finished Old Flames. Great book. Hoping to read the next one is his series soon. Also reading some psychology books for marketing which are really interesting.
Cheers!
Finished "Eye of the Beholder" by Ruth Ann Nordin, I have to say this was NOT a Christian read. It starts out wholesome and then changes in the middle, I was surprised to say the least. I haven't yet reviewed because I'm trying to think of a way to do so accurately. Now I'm reading Maya's Vacation by Rebecca Farrell. Bought this at the 4th of July sale for Astraea Press going on at Amazon: price .99. This is a clean romance which I'm enjoying. In fact I bought tons of books on this sale. I think today is the last day if you want to check them out.
Currently reading Merchants of Doubt: How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming for a GR group read. It's very interesting, and maddening.
I am currently reading two books on my Kindle. One is "A People Called Episcopalians: A Brief Introduction To Our Peculiar Way Of Life" by John H. Westerhoff and the other is "The Beautiful and the Damned" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The latter was prompted by seeing the movie "Midnight in Paris."
Im reading The Group by Mary McCarthy.. written in the early 60's but set in the 30's in Manhattan. Its for my local book group and to be honest didnt think it was my kind of book. Its about a group of Vassar female graduates and how their lives pan out.. as one reviewer says.. the original Sex and the City. Its well written and quite engaging actually. One of the good things about reading it on my kindle is that there are a surprising number of words that I have never heard of before so I can immediately look them up in the 'dictionary'.
Since I am a sci-fi writer, I am reading lots of anthologies on my KINdle. It's great because I would not be able to carry huge books around with me wherever I go.Elle

I'm just coming to the end of Sacred Secrets, the next book I think I'm going to read is The Righteous, heard great things about it.
I just finished the Hunger Game trilogy - wow!! Awesome books :)I'm now onto an indie book called The Wrath of Kings and Princes which is a fun fantasy book. I'm also looking to read the "Mortal Instruments" series because I'm a huge YA fan. (Which makes sense since I write YA fiction...)
Helen wrote: "I've just bought Emerald Talisman, 75p, the second one is almost £3 though!"I hope you really like it! I enjoyed the first one and the second one is a bit jucier - just how I like it!! Happy reading!
Just finished A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard, now I'm reading A Dance with Dragons by George RR Martin
Blythe wrote: "Just finished A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard, now I'm reading A Dance with Dragons by George RR Martin"I just read where George RR Martin sold 110,000 ebooks (out of a total of 298,000 books sold) on his FIRST DAY. There's obviously some pent-up demand.

it was deliciously creepy!
I love Deanna Raybourn's series! She and I were finalists in the same year for the Best First Novel Agatha Award. I got to know her on the "Best First" panel, read her book, and fell in love with her writing.I'm currently reading The Red Tent
, a book that's been recommended to me by many and has been on my TBR list for awhile, and I'm finally getting around to it. So far, I've found it fascinating!Prior to that, I caught up on some mysteries on my pile, the genre I most frequently read since I write them, too. I've read the following in July and recommend them all, though they all have very different tones:
Lucky YouDeath and the Lit Chick: A St. Just Mystery
Below ZeroI've got some catching up to do on Deanna's series, too!
Beth - How wonderful that you were nominated and that you got to meet Deanna! :)I'm not a fan of romance. A friend had recommended the Lady Julia Grey books, but I wasn't interested. she insisted, repeatedly, that I read them. I finally picked up the first one and thought, "I'll read the first couple of chapters just so I can tell my friend I tried it and then she will leave me alone about it." Instead, I was hooked. LOL Deanna Raybourn chatted on Writerspace earlier in the week. She seemed like a lovely person and was so kind to take the time to answer every question asked. She said her next book will be a stand alone set in Kenya in the 1920's and the main character will be a flapper.

The Kenya book sounds VERY interesting! I'll have to be on the lookout for it.
Currently reading Die A Little
, the first of Megan Abbott's 50s crime noir novels with a female POV. The writing's good but it feels more like a literary novel than a crime story so far, with no real incident to move the plot forward almost a quarter of the way in. I'm a sucker for the 1940s and 50s so I'll keep going in any case. Her' covers are great but the Kindle price might be steep for some.
Currently reading Kafka on the Shore and Two Pinches of Snuff. Kafka on the Shore is incredible, highly recommended for all you freethinkers out there.
Alan Hollinghurst, The Stranger's ChildChristine Dwyer Hickey, Last Train from Liguria
Mary Hooper, Petals on the Wind
Just finished reading Fallen by Lauren Kate and now I'm reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. It is one of the better books I've read so far this year!
I'm working on Nightmares & Dreamscapes by Stephen King and The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.
The Prisoner in the Third Cell I finished this and was a bit let downI am now reading some school books and finishing up Sixteen Brides
