Cooking with Fernet Branca by James Hamilton-Paterson. A comically pompous British expat in Tuscany and his Eastern European expat neighbor get mixed up in various hijinks. It's funny and awkward and hard to pull off as a writer, with dueling first persons. A Kindle version just came out in the US.
I just finished The Book Thief last night and it was AmAzing :). I need to finish Water for Elephants, but it is going down like a burnt piece of bread.
I am starting Jocasta: The Mother-Wife of Oedipus. Well, to make a long story short, I was curious to know more about the Oedipus myth and Victoria Grossack, one of the authors wanted my opinion of her book. I must say I was flattered! I liked the bit of the excerpt I had read at Amazon, the reviews were very complimentary, even by my favorite, Kirkus, and on top of all this Victoria offered to lend me a Kindle copy for two weeks. I am really looking forward to reading this. This is my lucky week.
I have The Book Thief and want to read it soon but it has tiny print and now I'm a kindler, I want text that I can manipulate. Think I'll end up buying again!
Helen, doesn't that get you annoyed!!! I have the same problem. I have about 100 books I REALLY want to read. they are in paper and now too difficult to read. I love the Kindle's ability to make large font.I am so stubborn I haul out the magnifying glass.....
I wouldn't have thought twice about the font size before! I'm also rebelling as I've just been 'given' reading glasses despite proudly reading the bottom line in the test.
I just finished Emily of New Moon by Lucy Maud Montgomery and am trying to decide if I want to read the other two books in the series. I find it odd reading actually books now. They are heavier and take two hands, but the kindle is one hand and light. I love it!
I'm still reading Quo Vadis, very long so it will take awhile but I also added
by Chynna Laird. An interesting story about a young boy with extreme musical talent and family issues. I'm about a 1/3 of the way through I can't wait to read more.
I can't believe that I prefer it too, I can't see me buying more paperbacks unless (possibly) if they end a long run in a series.
I read Switched by Amanda Hocking because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It wasn't my cup of tea. Now I'm reading Moonwalking with Einstein, which is a book about how people improve their memory. Cool idea!
I read Dying for a Date by Cindy Sample, a fun read and delightful characters. Now I'm raeding The Fifth Witness and really enjoying it. I bought the autograph book, but it was so heavy, I added it to my Kindle, which I can take anywhere.
I'm rereading the "Anne of Green Gables" series (yay for free public domain books!) and reliving some happy memories.

Wonderful book about the financial crisis of 2008. Mr. Lewis shows how the crisis evolved. But what makes this book so special is that it's filled with interesting characters.RandyThe Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine
Top Suspense: 13 Classic Stories by 12 Masters of the Game -- a crime/mystery/thriller collection by 12 excellent authors. I'm about halfway through and loving it.
Twisted Tales of Terror Finished this book and posted my review. Gave it five stars! Great collection of horror stories.
I finished Hardcastle and McCormick: A Complete Viewers Guide to the Classic Eighties Action Serieslast night...Great book! I gave it a 5 star rating. I'm now starting Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
The next big one for my kindle will be Matrimonial Mayhem. Bought this book from Astraea Press. All the money made from this book is going to help Alabama tornado victims. After I finish Matrimonial Mayhem, I'm all set to read Eye of the Beholder by Ruth Ann Nordin. It was a cheap read I found on the page for "The Perfect Rose".
"Precious Gifts of Love" ~
~ and "Little Gifts of Sustainable Contentment" ~
Both books are available on Kindle.

The teachings bring contentment, love; and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
You know, I read a lot of self help books. And I've occasionally recommended some to others. But never in quite so blurby a way.
I hope that I am wrong in what I am about to say ... but it's generally considered bad manners for an author to self-promote by posting under another name.
If I am wrong, I do apologize.
I'm reading Time Zones, Containers And Three Square Meals A Day today and have armchair-traveled so far from La Spezia in Italy to the Suez canal, Port Kelang in Malaysia, Singapore, Busan, S. Korea and now on the way back on the same route via Shanghai and Singapore and headed all the way to New York.
I'm currently reading Double Identity. It's a Love Inspired Suspense book. I'm 63% through and it's very good.
A Sportsman's Sketches, Turgenev. Beautiful portraits of Russian characters and landscape. It's amazing how close at hand he makes this world seem.

There seems to be more and more of this and it makes me instantly cross. I think they need to be upfront and post in the appropriate folder!I'm reading a DTB that I bought in 2002! The Ill-Made Mute
Wonderful book of letters between Eudora Welty and William Maxwell called What There Is to Say We Have Said
Just started reading In Dubious Battle by John Steinbeck alongside the two other books I'm on at the moment!
Just finished Sick last night. A very engrossing book. Kept me clicking the page turn button till the very end. :o)
I just started The Lightkeeper's Daughterlast night. Not that far into yet, but so far it's not holding my interest too much. Hope it picks up!
