true, I wanted to call him a pirate though

By far the best book i have ever read, now my kids are also reading, this book has been in my family for 3 generations now!

Not entirely true; in the 'A Hecatomb' chapter Nemo deliberately entices the attacking man-of-war with a premeditated intent to sink it:
"Sir, I am going to sink it."
"You will not do that?"
"I shall do it," he replied coldly. "And I advise you not to judge me, sir. Fate has shown you what you ought not to have seen. The attack has begun; go down."
and:
"I am the law, and I am the judge! I am the oppressed, and there is the oppressor! Through him I have lost all that I loved, cherished, and venerated—country, wife, children, father, and mother. I saw all perish! All that I hate is there! Say no more!"
I'll not argue as to his justification. I'm just saying that on occasion (when the ship is a warship) Nemo will deliberately set out to sink it.

Of all the times he needed someone to be there and see him through his darkest hour...I hope that I would have stayed.
