Children's versions combined with original text

I remember reading the Ladybird picture book version of The Railway Children when I was 5 or 6 and then the original text as a Penguin classic a few years later. These were combined as one edition on goodreads but I separated them. I hope that was correct?

I think the confusion happens because sometimes the books are credited to the original author but in fact was adapted by someone else. So in these cases should we note "Adapted" or something in the title to make things clearer?

Also may I suggest that we list "children's editions" specifically in the don't combine section of the librarians manual?

I agree that was correct in this case.

I'm not sure about the general case -- some "children's editions" have most or all of the actual text of a book.
