You may like to read my interview with Curtis E. LeMay in "Above the Reich" and he did not hold much back regarding Cuba, and what he told JFK.

My name is Rebekah, and I live in Utah! I have long cultivated an interest in WWII and recently graduated from Arizona State University with a Master's Degree in WWII Studies! Now that I have time to read more than textbooks and PDFs, I have enjoyed reading for pleasure again... but I miss my WWII content. I found this group and have loved "lurking" so far. I ordered Never Forget Your Name and look forward to reading it. Are future books released a month at a time, or is there a list somewhere? Either way is okay, I listen to a lot of audiobooks, so when I finish one, it's nice to have something on deck that I can discuss with others.
I look forward to my association with this group and my exposure to the MANY books about the subject we all love.

Welcome, Rebekah. Stop lurking and pitch in!

You seem to be the Chief... do you pick the featured books? Or are those posted at the top just your read for the month? If they are meant as discussion books, have you picked one for February? When do you typically post the next month's book?

Hi Rebekah, welcome. I'm pretty sure the group can suggest a book or two for your on-deck circle. Great to have you join up.

Welcome to the group, Rebekah. Mike and Jonny are not kidding about referrals--just name a topic and you'll possibly get more than your bookshelves (and wallet) can handle!

You guys aren't kidding... since joining this group two weeks ago I have added three physical books to my shelves and five virtual ones... not to mention more Audible editions than I care to share in print.

Right now, I've reading The Last 100 Days and also Year Zero: A History of 1945.
Looking forward to trying to find the time to be more active in the group.
Best wishes to all,

Welcome to the group, Steven.

Welcome to the group, Steven.

Hi Steven, great to have you here.

"Sand & Steel: The D-Day Invasions and the Liberation of France"
"Snow and Steel: The Battle of the Bulge, 1944-45"
"Fire and Steel: The End of World War Two in the West"
Also, James Holland has completed two books in his trilogy "The War in the West:
https://www.goodreads.com/series/2027...
Plus of course the final book by Rick Atkison in his World War II Liberation Trilogy; " The Guns at Last Light: The War in Western Europe, 1944-1945".

Welcome, Owen.

I second Aussie Rick's recommendations of the Caddick-Adams and Atkinson's trilogies. I've read the Atkinson trilogy and found it to be excellent, and I'm currently about halfway through the first volume of Caddick-Adams' trilogy--a great read so far.
Authors to check out (IMO) would be Sir Max Hastings, James Holland, Martin Middlebrook, Adam Makos, Alex Kershaw, Craig Symonds, James Hornfischer, John McManus, Eric Hammel, Ian Toll and James Hallas.
Several of the authors I mentioned write mostly about the fighting in the Pacific, with Hornfischer's books being some of the very best books on naval warfare I've ever read. I could definitely recommend dozens of books on a variety of topics, but I think I've given you enough to digest for the time being. Do not hesitate to ask for information or recommendations from the group, just be warned you may get more than you can handle!
Happy reading!

In addition to the books and authors already mentioned, I recommend Holland's "Brothers In Arms" an excellent account of the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry from D-Day to V-E Day. Enjoy.

I'm a history buff.
I wrote a painfully boring MA thesis on George Orwell that discussed his WW II writings, among other things.
Has anyone read his "The Lion and the Unicorn?"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lio...

The Lion and the Unicorn was written in London during the worst period of the blitz. It is vintage Orwell, a dynamic outline of his belief in socialism, patriotism and an English revolution. His fullest political statement, it has been described as 'one of the most moving and incisive portraits of the English character' and is as relevant now as it ever has been.

Yes, my thesis may be as dull as dishwater, but reading all that Orwell was great. It seems he was one of several socialists disappointed (horrified, really, after Spain) by Soviet communism and looking for a different path.
I wonder if any Labor politicians are looking at it now?
Also, have you read "Pegasus Bridge?"

Welcome, Demetrios. Please pitch in.

Welcome to the group, Demetrios.

There are lots of great books on the Battle of the Atlantic out there--any particular aspect you're more interested in?

I would love to find something more focused on the Merchantile fleets that crossed the Atlantic. I especially enjoy ons based around personal memoires, or collections of memoires. I enjoy the personal touch of history :)

While I haven't read this one yet, it might have some of what you're looking for:

Here's one Gavin --

Hi Gavin and welcome to the group, I see you already have a few good recommendations :)

Blood Red Snow: The Memoirs of a German Soldier on the Eastern Front
Günter K. Koschorrek

Sorry to delay introducing myself. I’m new to Goodreads and just getting the hang of things. I read and listen to a lot of audiobooks as I travel quite a lot for work (plus the wife doesn’t like the light on at night).
I was hoping to find some suggestions for WWII novels fiction or nonfiction that are similar to “Band of Brothers”. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
Joe 🙂
