Due to urgent real-life requirements, I haven't been very active in the group lately. Will become more active again once our life is a bit back to normal.

Angela: The June theme read is any book on merchant navies and submarine warfare. Themes are every other month (not May). See the Group and Buddy Reads section.

This is a very well managed group. Aussie Rick, Geevee and Mike do an excellent job of keeping all on track.

I'll be reading that book as well Angela, there is no deadline, anytime in June will be fine:

As do you Manray9 :)

I try to make the reading events more 'theme' based so members can read any book on the subject that fits the theme, saves you trying to track down a specific book. I think we should have fun reading about merchant ships and subs next month.

Welcome, Luke. Don't be shy about making your contribution to the group.

Thanks, Geevee.

I appreciate it, Rick. Glad to be part of the group.

An old classic on technology development that I thought was good:
Most Secret War by R.V. Jones

Thanks Miss M; I'll definitely take a look at it.

Glad you are finding your way around the group site and I'll forward to you jumping in whenever your ready :)

At the same time I add the brilliant "Between Silk and Cyanide" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... by Leo Marks. I haven't looked to see if you've already read it.
Cheers,

Thanks for the recommendation; Between Silk and Cyanide: A Codemaker's War, 1941-1945 looks like a good book.

I guess I am a war tourist, in that I photograph battlefields and battle related sites for a living. Of course I've read many books about WW2, and probably have 100 on the shelf behind me. Ever since being fed a steady diet of WW2 by a grandmother who escaped from central Europe in the 1930's, I've been reading, visiting, and working with WW2 locations.
Currently I am developing a new web platform called worldwr2memories.com which makes it possible to show off and make available for purchase some of my legacies of battle sites in the UK and France. I'm not trying to push my stuff on y'all, but if you have an interest, please take a look. If by some miracle you decide you can’t live without a stirring image of a WW2 location, by all means, follow the path.
I’d like to write or perhaps finish a book about the War, but I’ve been too busy working with my images. Maybe soon I will get inspired by something I read which you folks recommend.
Enjoy,
Jan Faul

Sounds like interesting and enjoyable work, Jan. Welcome to the group.

I looked at your site and it is truly beautiful. Your work is exquisite. Are you a child of war or a grand child of war? I am a grand child of war, with parents ages 13 and 18 when the war ended. They are the war children. I wish you luck with your book, I am writing one of my own, I know how hard it can be to finish such an emotional project.
Best Helene

One of my favourites is this first-hand account:
