Can I ask why, please? Horrible writing, disgusting content, boring?

Kim (kimmr) As always rather late to the party, I have just finished Kate Atkinson's Case Histories - a wonderful book. Last night I started A Test of Wills by Charles Todd, which I am enjoying very much so far.

Jan (booklover777) | 66 comments I just finished The Emperor's Tomb by Steve Berry last night and enjoyed it immensely. It's one of my current favourite series and always look forward to the next one.
Not sure what to read next, other than The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver, which is the next selection for my face-to-face book club.

message 4413: by Alex (new)

Alex (alexe11) | 74 comments I've just finished The Soul Collectors by Chris Mooney. Wow what a ride. I couldn't put it down. The plot does need a huge stretch of the imagination to be believable but my thinking is if I believed 1% of the plot lines in most thrillers I'd never sleep at night! The main character Darby McCormick does have a bit of a superwoman complex but I did find her a likeable character. The plot is based on a cult stealing children going back 50 years but you never really find out why. The conclusion is not very satisfying but it leaves you wanting to know what happens next and what has happened to John Casey. I really hope there is another instalment soon!

I have now started Hell Gate by Linda Fairstein an Alex Cooper novel.

message 4415: by Ken (new)

Ken Consaul | 209 comments Just finished Saharaand added my review. Three star review for the typical hero series. Everything works out. Good guy barely survives and gets payback on the supervillain (hope you didn't think that was a spoiler).

If you like the imperilled world and only one man on the planet is up to the task of saving the day, this one is for you. A bit long for this genre for my taste. Probably won't be looking for Cussler's others.

Hey, is there a website where you go get cool sounding names for the stars of these books? Dirk Pitt? and from Alex' post Darby McCormick?

message 4416: by DJ =^^= (new)

DJ =^^= (debzee) I listened to A is for Alibi last week. I enjoyed it also, I plan on starting the next book this week.
Right now, I am reading Field of Blood by Denise Mina .
Has anyone read any books from Denise Mina? This is my first so wanted to hear feedback. thanks :)

Wow Marjorie, from my own experience I could have posted this word for word! I have all the Paddy Meehan books but have only read the first so far. Gritty is a very accurate description of her style. I'm interested in the new book though. Anyone know if it's the start of a new series or a standalone?

message 4427: by Jan C (new)

Jan C (woeisme) | 39243 comments I recently finished Cold Granite by Stuart MacBride, Full Dark House by Christopher Fowler and Bone Yard by Donna Ball.

Donna Ball's book is a lot lighter - a dog finds bone - a big leg bone, like might belong to a human. It is light and a lot of fun and takes place in North Carolina and this series features a dog trainer/search & rescue person and primarily her golden retriever.

I enjoyed the other two so much I have already downloaded the second book in each of those series. Tartan Noir and the craziness of the PCU (Peculiar Crimes Unit).

It's easy when they are audiobooks, Linda. I listen to them on lunch, while I'm getting ready for work, on the ride to work, and a little before bed. Plus, the series is addicting! When you start book three, you will love it...so far the best one in the series if you ask me.

You got me hooked. I'm putting a hold on Blindsighted. ;)

What do you mean by traditional? As opposed to?
Not being a SA, just curious if there are sub-genres.
