Love Pendergast, his new book comes out next Tuesday. Can't wait.
Reading Before I Go To Sleep...a great debut novel...kinda hard to put down. So sad it's a work day.
Okay, I finished the faceless killers and loved it. Now im on the 2nd book of the series, its called The Dogs of Riga. Im hoping this one will be as good as the last.

Then it was still waiting to be read when I received notice that it was due in a couple days. Found I couldn't renew it. Seemed there was a waiting list. So I read it with no trouble by the time it was due, and all of a sudden I had a bunch of Mankell on the hold list for me! He's definitely one of my favorites. Another one I couldn't believe I never heard about!
Susan wrote: "I just started Never Knowing by Chevy Stevensand it grabbed me from page one!!"I hope you enjoy it, I'm expecting to get it this evening, soon now, and I'm waiting for it to read it next .... hope I enjoy it too!
Nice to see people reading Wallander series, i havent read much of it ye but its fits my taste exactly.Henkell? Who is that ;)

No, I am definitely not joking! I had never heard of him. I'm sure many haven't in the country I live in. But I am so glad I did. He is among my favorites now.
just finished Buried Prey by John Sandford, again i really enjoyed this book. Starting Fallen by karin Slaughter, i've loved all her books so hope this is just as good!

Am about 30 pages into Booked to Die. I recently picked up John Dunning's second book in his Cliff Janeway series at the used book store...requested the first from the library since i'm absolutely unable to read a series out of order. Enjoying the writing style of Dunning.

If only I could get back to the series and finish Two O'Clock Eastern War Time. I only seem to read it in spurts.
Read the first two Sherlock Holmes novellas, A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of the Four, both of which are wonderful fun and can be had for free from Gutenberg. Here are the links:

I just got through reading the first three books in Lee Child's Jack Reacher series and am getting ready to read Running Blind. I am really enjoying this series, not sure why I didn't find it earlier.

M.C. Beatonand having a hard time getting into it too.
I hate it when nothing grabs me! Good luck for a better book next time, Jeanette!

It wasn't much like the Cliff Janeway books..
I just finished Never Knowing by Chevy Stevens and loved it! I loved it as much as her first one! Five stars for me! What a terrifying ride!!

His writing is much finer, crisper in short form.
Finished The Girl Who Played with Fire last night. Started A Place of Execution - boy, talk about evocative when it comes to setting and atmosphere! Also reading Wolf Hall.
Jan C wrote: "I'm not particularly enjoying it either. I've been reading it for years. I am closing in on the conclusion. Just not fast enough. After your comments, Jan and Bill...I think I'll just stick to the Dunning's Janeway series, but I won't be in any hurry...I have far too many good series on the go as it is! Booked to Die is okay at half way through, but in no way exceptional.

Hi JT. I agree about the atmosphere in A Place of Execution. I could feel the cold damp of those dark winter nights.
Be sure to check out the discussion of this book in the group read folder.

Finished Little Girl Lost by Richard Aleas Great book. Nothing flashy but everything is done perfectly. One of the best modern noir novels I've read.

Monica, I sort of feel the same way as you. The Janeway series isn't my favourite mystery series; I much prefer Donna Leon's Brunetti books or David Rotenberg's Zhang Fong stories for example, but at the same time I enjoy the Janeway books too. I like the whole antique/ used book experience. The last one I read, The Bookman's Promise was about following the trail of Sir Richard Burton's voyages in America around the time of the Civil War. Oddly enough, shortly after reading, I came across originals of Sir Richard Burton's biography written by his wife. Unfortunately, they were a bit too expensive for my budget, but it was neat tying the two together. The Janeway stories are always worth a read. :0)
I am currently reading In the Woods and am having a hard time getting through it. I thought the premise was very interesting however I find myself wanting to get past everything just to find out what happened to the lead character when he was young. Anyone else having trouble getting through this one?
Hi Melanie, I read this book some time ago and really enjoyed it. There is quite a bit of suspense regarding the back story. We also read this as a group read and here is the link to the discussion. I think all the spoilers are pretty well marked but be careful as you go.

Just started The Devil All the Time by Donald Pollock which is supposed to be dark, southern gothic. Just what I am in the mood for.
Breaking Silenceby Linda Castillo ..the third in a series and it's an incredible read, thrilling, haunting..The review in new york journal of books really does the book justice:

I'm not much of a short story reader but found a book at the library by Peter Lovesey, creator of the Peter Diamond series........and loved it. There are 16 short stories with a Hitchcockian feel to them.....surprise endings, twists and unusual situations. It was really delightful and can be read in one sitting. I truly enjoyed it.

I just finished reading The Dogs of Rigaand Im now in love with Mankell. Unfortunately, I only picked up two of his books, so I have to put him on hold until I get back to the library. I started Dark Lover and Im embarrassingly admitting that Ive read 389 pages of it already.....talk about guilty pleasure.
