Reading Fallen by Karin Slaughter. Have read this series from the beginning and always find them good.
Diane wrote: "Reading Fallen by Karin Slaughter. Have read this series from the beginning and always find them good."Started, finished and reviewed it over the weekend, Diane. I thought it was great! Slaughter just keeps on getting better.

Really looking forward to reading it, just waiting for the paperback to arrive in a book store near me. Love her books.
Just finished "Miranda's Big Mistake" by Jill Mansell and just started "The Apothecary's Daughter" by Julie Klassan

She writes such great mysteries. One of my favourite authors
Finished The Pact by Jodi Picoult and now reading The Leopard, which I believe is the brand new Jo Nesbo book.
Finished Fallen by Karin Slaughter, which I loved and now starting
which is the last book Parker wrote before his death, love his characters and dialogue and also started
which seems to be getting very good reviews.
Finished The Alienist, a re-read. It was good, just not great. A good page turner (I didn't remember it being quite so gorey!), but there were too many modern elements in a story that takes place in the 1890s.
Am now reading The Invisible Man, which is great fun. The main character is so nasty, very different from the TV show of the 70s.

And I am about to start my first Erle Stanley Gardner: Perry Mason and The Case of the Howling Dog, which should be fun.

I remember the title of that one but not much else except that Perry Mason wins the case. Let us know how you like it.

It starts out really well... In the first 5 pages we meet a very strange man and a very strange situation. Intriguing. I'm sorry I'm going out to dinner tonight... I want to find out what happens!

I am in the middle of Dead Run by Erica Spindler. I have only recently discoverd this author and I am really enjoying her book
I am in the middle of Devil Water by Anya Seton. It's quite good. I don't how I managed to miss it or this author in the past!
Recently finished Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee (Dee Goong An). Very interesting book which is an English translation of an 18th century Chinese detective story (Dee Goong An) which is based on the real statesman and detective Di Renjie who lived in the seventh century during the Tang Dynasty (A. D. 600-900).
Robert Hans van Gulik went on to write several original mysteries in which he continued the career of Judge Dee.

(I think she may have been a little in love with Raymond Burr!) I used to love curling up on her bed reading them when I was about 12 or 13.

Dena wrote: "Thanks to all of you for introducing me to C. J. Box. I downloaded the first book in the Warden Pickett series yesterday and really enjoyed it."Oh boy, you are in for a lot of good reading with this series!
I always loved the Perry Mason stories, and the interplay between Perry, Della Street and Paul Drake. If you watched any of the original TV show you can read without picturing those actors in the roles, but most of the books feature the "Perry Mason" moment in which he manages to unmask the real killer.Ray Flynt
Author of KISSES OF AN ENEMY
Recently finished Ellen Crosby's about to be published The Sauvignon Secret
, which I loved. Currently reading a classic, Sapper's Bulldog Drummond
and finishing the first Graeme Kent Ben Kella/Sister Conchita series set in the Solomon Islands in the 1960s--Devil-Devil
. Also finally getting around to listening to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander now that it's been out for decades!
Finished A Drop of the Hard Stuff by Lawrence Block, which I really liked and am now reading
by Linda Castillo which is a relatively new series about a former Amish who is now a police chief and her dept. They investigate crimes in Amish country.
I am reading 1105 Yakima Street by Debbie Macomber, When Blood Calls by J.K. Beck, The Cypress House by Michael Koryta, and The Kindness of Strangers by Katrina Kittle.
Just finished Snømannen Gave it 4 stars. I am really enjoying these Scandanavian reads. I hope Audible gets the The Hypnotist heard great things about it if not I'll Kindle it.
Beth wrote: "Kari wrote: "Beth wrote: "I'm catching up on one of my favorite series, C. J. Box's Joe Pickett game warden series set in Wyoming. I'm currently reading Below Zero and just finished ..."Also Nevada Barr.each book features a different national park.

I've just started so it's hard to say. I've had in on my TBR shelf for awhile. I'll keep you posted.
Hugh wrote: "Have now started H.M.S. Ulysses by Alistair MacLean."I enjoyed all the Alistair MacLean books I read when I was a teen. I've got it on my shelf to read again. I hope you enjoy.
Just finished The Janus Stone by Elly Griffiths. Enjoyed it and didn't guess the killer until the end.
Jan wrote: "Just finished The Janus Stone by Elly Griffiths. Enjoyed it and didn't guess the killer until the end."Love her books, I think there are three now?
Reading
by Helen Grant and
which is the third mystery in this series, set in the early 1900's and the beginning of profiling, they are very good.
Have just started reading the first Louise Penny book, Still Life. I've seen this author mentioned a lot here...so we'll see how it goes.

Yes, I'm looking forward to The House at Sea's End. I've got it on hold at my library.
Monica wrote: "Have just started reading the first Louise Penny book, Still Life. I've seen this author mentioned a lot here...so we'll see how it goes."I read this one for my mystery book club. Everyone liked it. I haven't read any of the other ones in the series though.

Yes, The House at Sea's End is the third. I read the first, Crossing Places and loved it. Was a bit disappointed with the personal 'involvement' in the second book ... I thought she was an interesting character on her own without the personal emotional upheaval added. In fact, that was what has kept the series from being a 're-read' for me and on my personal bookshelves.
Monica wrote: "Have just started reading the first Louise Penny book, Still Life. I've seen this author mentioned a lot here...so we'll see how it goes."I enjoy this author's books, her characters and setting is very interesting. Hope you enjoy

I've only read one of hers that I liked at all and I forgot the name of it; I think it was Brutal Truth or Telling, something like that. From the content blurbs I had been trying to fit in some of her stories. The areas she writes in interest me as well. But I started I think two others, and they are just not for me.
Finished John Lawton's A Little White Death featuring a middle-aged Inspector Troy in early 60s Britain. Good stuff as always from Lawton (one of my favorites), though it reads more like a novel than a mystery. About halfway through More Beer by Jakob Arjouni, a German crime noir classic from the late 80s in a new translation. Outsider Turkish detective Kemal Kayankaya navigates prejudice, eco-terrorists and Establishment corruption with gruff DIY attitude. Liking it so far. First in a series.
I am reading "Cold Quarry" by Andy Straka. I have borrowed it on my Kindle from www.booklending.com This is the 4th one in this series.
I'm beginning Shut Your Eyes Tight by John Verdon. This is the follow up to his wonderful first book Think of a Number.
Half way through Jar City, my second by Arnaldur Indridason (Author) Bernard Scudder (Translator). Quite spare - not sure if this is due to the place, the writing or having been translated. Quite enjoyable still.

I'm half-way through Peter Robinson's Bad Boy. I love catching up with his detectives and since I used to live in Yorkshire, I like revisiting familiar scenery. It's a page turner so far.
