That sound quite interesting. I'll investigate it, thanks :)

That one is on my list. Maybe I'd better try to get to it soon.

Going to start Room next I think

Hi Mary, I am a big fan of Stuart McBride but the futuristic setting ..."
I'm about halfway through it now and I am really enjoying it.

Finished The Poacher's Son over the weekend. This was for my in person group next week and I will be interested to hear what the group has to say.
First of all, I loved the setting in the wilds of Maine. The descriptions were very vivid. It's not your run of the mill police procedural, however. Some of the characters could have been a bit more defined but then I belive the author was really focusing on the relationship between the main character, Game Warden Mike Bowditch and his fugitive father, Jack. All in all a very interesting and absorbing read.

I loved Dark Blood, love all Stuart McBride novels, I am now reading "Halfhead" and really enjoying it, even though it is a departure from his usual ones.

Not sure if I've read that 1 or not yet chick x

This is the cover for my "First Reads" win, an Advanced Readers' Edition. Kinda cool...

I am a big Rebus fan.

I have this on TBR... may have to bump it up a bit. Sounds right up my alley!

On your suggestion, I've asked for a swap for it lol x
I listened to Beat the Reaper and the reader did a fabulous job with the voices/accents. Be warned there are some pretty gory descriptions in this book, of course you can skim those paragraphs and still enjoy the book. Harder to do in the audiobook version though.

Me too. Big Rebus fan :)

This is one of my favorites as well.

Been turned down for this :-(

Dittoing other folks comments; Rebus is a great series and also a great tv series..

Ah Burke. I enjoy him well.

I am not sure but I think the book was writen in 1940s or before. Little tired of the current mystery stuff with its macho investigators (whether men or women),psychopath killers and a bit of sex thrown in.Hardly any mystery or investigation. More like a mixture of Ian Flemming and Harold Robins. So I reverted back to mystery classics of the pre 1970 period. These are influenced by Sherlock Holmes or Father brown series. Murder in a intriguing set up, plenty of clues and a logical and rational unravelling of mystery by protagonist.
May not be realistic but gripping with suspense and more interactive in the sense you get involved and tend to play the role of the detective.
Nothing can be better for a light and enjoyable reading.Clean language with plenty of subtle humour.
