Just finished A Cold Heart and getting ready to start Private Eyes. Can't believe I'm nearly at the end of both downloaded library books AND all of the free downloads I've gotten from Kindle.Panic attack time ... only 5 unread books on my Kindle!
I'm currently reading
by Claudia Gray I'm 55% through it but after I've finished that I'm either gonna read
by Casey Hill or Day of the Dead by Lisa Brackmann
Reading
by Tom Rob Smith. I'm not loving it like I was hoping I would. Not finding it to be a page-turner, either.
I'm reading Let the Devil Sleep by John Verdon, the third book in his Dave Gurney series. I really love this series, the writing always sucks me immediately into the story.

Currently reading The Good Thief's Guide to Paris and listening to The Dead Cat Bounce and enjoying them both. I needed something a little lighter for a change. I've also listened to the BBC dramatization of a few Agatha Raisin books with Penelope Keith as Agatha. Laugh out loud funny which is a problem when you are listening at work.

I'm taking a break from the Allon after reading getting to sixth in within a couple of months. I will probably pick it up in a couple of months.
I'm reading Lisa Gardner's Gone. Enjoying it but having trouble finding the time to read it. Has anyone read Tana French? Her books look very interesting.
I finished The Sign Of The Book by John Dunning, a Cliff Janeway mystery and enjoyed very much. About to start a hard-boiled PI mystery, which also happens to be a vampire story; The Dark Sleep by P.N. Elrod.
can't get into the camel club and I don't have the other on in all the thousands of books I have on my kindle. Looking for a good mystery/thriller to read, not political as I've had enough of that with the times lately!!! Not into espionage too much either. sorry - I'm making it hard. I've done the Graftons, Conelly's, Coben's, Patterson's, etc.. guess I'm just looking for a new name to try. So? Any wonderful suggestions out there?
@ DottieI am almost finished Inmate 1577 this has been a terrific read. Contemporary serial killer with a back story in the late fifties.

Every Breath You Take was her first book, mystery featuing PI Laura Principal and set in Cambridge. I really enjoyed her stories.

Tana French is terrific. We read the first book in the series, In the Woods, (sorry the link won't work) last year. You can check out the group discussion at

You might like to try C.J. Sansom's historical thrillers / mysteries set in Tudor times (the Matthew Shardlake series). The first book in the series is Dissolution!!

Thanks, Donna. I'm going to read her soon. I've just got such a huge TBR list, and it's hard to know which I should get to first. Recommendations help a ton. Will check out the link.

Started Born Bad: Collected Stories another collection of short stories by Vachss. The usual mostly-grim scenarios and ended up with a 2-page short story that really hit me at a personal level and I'm going to have to put this one aside for awhile. He is one of my favorite authors but although he can have a touch of humor at times to lighten the very grim, harsh tone, he isn't an author that I can read often.
The ending to this particular short story was unexpected and hit me hard enough I felt like I'd been kicked in the stomach.
I think my next book is going to be a cozy ...

I'm already on book six...that's six in just a few days time, and I think I'm developing an ulcer just from the suspense. I think, like Sharon, I'm going to have to go find a cozy series and take a break from the thrillers for a couple of weeks. Gabriel gets smacked around too much, and his life is so, well, sad, isn't it? Mitch Rapp's life is certainly colored by his past and the job he does for the CIA, but it seems to not overwhelm him quite as much as it does Gabriel from his work at "The Office". He's really dark and grim. Mitch can be dark, but the bad things that happen to him seem to not affect him quite as deeply...Mitch can still smile and laugh, but poor Gabriel...I think he might only smile once every other book. (laughing) So, I'm going to put the rest of the series away, perhaps until November, and then pick it back up then.

I enjoy the Kay Scarpetta series as well. I just read two P.D. Martins and they were really good!
I just started Along Came a Spider. I have loved Patterson's other series so I thought I would try this one.
how far are we on THe Camel Club, Book 1? I've been wanting to get far in this book for a while but have always just started it (have this bad habit of reading like ten books at once….lol). Anyhow, just got out of the hospital, trying to stay out, so I might be a bit slower than usual but I have time :) Hope i'm not too far behind! thanks for having this group you all; I LOVE MYSTERIES/CRIME FICTION/THRILLERS!!!
Tara wrote: "how far are we on THe Camel Club, Book 1? I've been wanting to get far in this book for a while but have always just started it (have this bad habit of reading like ten books at once….lol). Anyho..."Tara you can read at your own pace. I finished it in less than a week and loved it.

Darn, found two new mystery writers I may have to check out. The missus and I have watched the George Gently series on the TV for awhile now, but it just sort of twigged on my that they are based on a series written by Alan Hunter. The first in the series (40+ books) is Gently Does It. Time to scout it out in my local book store. The other is also based on a series that will be starting here next Friday. It's written by Australian writer Kerry Greenwood and is the Miss Fisher Murder Mystery series. First book in the series is Cocaine Blues. Looking forward to trying both series. Has anyone else read any of them?

And I took a look at Cocaine Blues and it is free on the kindle so I'll give it a try.
I recently started another Gideon Oliver story by Aaron Elkins - The Dark Place (I couldn't find a link) which takes place in Olympic National Park in Washington.
Found it - The Dark Place.

Haven't read them yet. The Hunters used to occasionally trickle through my place when I had a mail-order book store. I may still have a few around here and now you've gotten me interested in picking them up. Is the series you're watching a bbc production?
Bill wrote: "It's written by Australian writer Kerry Greenwood "I discovered her through her Corinna Chapman series and have enjoyed those a great deal.
Hi Bill, Love the George Gently TV series. I sort of knew it was based on a book series but didn't think it was 40+ books long!
I've read one of Kerry Greenwood's books and enjoyed it. Light, quick moving, some belief needs suspending but fun.

From what I've read, it was filmed by one of the Australian channels or film production companies. It's going to be shown at least in Canada and the UK. Nice to hear folks' comments on both the George Gently and Miss Fisher books.
I just finished Broken Harbor. Took a while to get into it, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. However, I thought Defending Jacob was a better read.I've now started Wolf Hall and that's proving to be a bit of a challenge.
I notice Gone Girl is popular-- my wife unfortunately summarized the book to me on a long drive and when I started it, I was like, wait, I think I know this book.
My wife has read everything by Elizabeth George-- she knocked out Careless in Red in one sitting. Quite interesting.
Reading through the Kenzie and Generro books by Dennis Lehane. The stories are entertaining but the characters, while well drawn, just don't have any surprises. They cops look and act like Irish cops. The FBI guys are straight laced and overbearing. The criminals are plain psychotics and look as ugly as they act. A little bit comic book. I feel like I'm reading Sin City.
I like Dennis Lehane-- his best books are his stand alones: Mystic River is great and the movie adaptation was also very good. I enjoyed Moonlight Mile which is the last of the Kenzie and Generro. Some writers are known for place-- Lehane has Boston. Connelly has LA.
I liked The Given Day as a good stand alone. I liked the Babe Ruth tie in that introduced sections of the story.
