Finished The Beautiful Mystery a few days ago...all I'm gonna say here is that I'm sooo done with Jean Guy and anything dealing with the Arnaud case...this was not Ms. Penny's best effort...no where close!
Jeanie wrote: "Finished The Beautiful Mystery a few days ago...all I'm gonna say here is that I'm sooo done with Jean Guy and anything dealing with the Arnaud case...this was not Ms. Penny's best effort...no wher..."I fully sympathize with your sentiments, Jeanie. I don't want to post spoilers, so you can see my review if you like. I think it says a lot for Louise Penny that people can become so invested in her characters and their stories.
Oh, bummer1 I requested THE BEAUTIFUL MYSTERY from the public library and was so looking forward to it! Glad I've found other mystery writers since then whom I favor, too!
Nancy wrote: "Oh, bummer1 I requested THE BEAUTIFUL MYSTERY from the public library and was so looking forward to it! Glad I've found other mystery writers since then whom I favor, too!"I don't think it's a bad book...I went ahead and gave it 4 stars because even her weak efforts are better than a great many successful writers' best! I just have a real problem with angst and returning difficulties from a protagonist's past. Generally, I'll give a writer the span of two or three books to resolve such an issue. So, I'm pretty tired of everything and anything related to the Arnaud case ( a situation that happened before the series ever even started) and I'm fed up with Beauvoir. I've never liked the character, and, in my opinion, he had only one redeeming quality which I can't name here, but now even that quality is gone. But if you read the reviews the book has here at Goodreads you'll see that I'm in the minority. Most people loved this book as much as all the others, so don't let my opinion sway you too much.
Thanks! I agree - resolve the Arnaud case issue! I wonder if I even understand the characters and their involvement in that case! And I have hopes for the futures of Beauvior and Gamache's daughter. So I guess I need to read the book, huh?
Just thought I'd mention that Audible presently has a list of books that you can purchase for just $4.95 each. I checked the list and there's some fairly decent ones being offered. So, just FYI...

Robert B. Parker's Killing The Blues (Jesse Stone #10)by Michael Brandman. The book did not miss a beat except the dread cat person thing.
JB wrote: "Is this Amazon Audible, Jeanie?"It might be Amazon Audible, but I know it as Audible.com :)
Susan wrote: "I really enjoyed The Way of Shadows."It seems slow going for me. I will continue with the book though.
I just finished
and now I started
. I really liked Among the Ashes, it was the first book I had read of hers.
I have just finished
. I listened to the audio version. This was my first experience of Stella Rimington. There were a couple of places where I could not suspend disbelief but overall it was a good story, well written. The narration by Maggie Mash was superb.
Just finished Niceville by Carsten Stroud (did you know there IS a Niceville in FL?)Good, engaging in a creepy, Stephen King/It sort of way. I read it on the recommendation of a co-worker (we're librarians)and blew through it.

It was simply audible.com...i don't know about amazon audible.
Diane wrote: "I just finished The Beautiful Mystery and while I agree with Jeanie about the rehashing of the past I did love her writing and also loved all in informatin about Gregorian chants."I loved the Gregorian chants info as well! It's a four star book even with my complaints taken into account.

Thanks, Jeanie. I know the one you mean. Amazon audibles are different. :-)
Kathleen wrote: "Just finished Niceville by Carsten Stroud (did you know there IS a Niceville in FL?)..."Yep!! I actually have a friend that's from there!!
I took a break for a while but I just started back on my beloved "In Death" series by JD Robb with Seduction in Death. I simply LOVE the character's and their personalities in this series. They make me laugh, especially Eve & her husband, Roarke! What a strange yet perfect match! :-)
I just finished The Wheelmanby Duane Swierczynski. It's fast pace and easy read though no character development. It was okay. Watching The Hunger Game movie tonight and tomorrow I'll pick up Lee Child's new one A Wanted Man.
Susan wrote: "Diane wrote: "Next up is Last to Die."I really liked this one."
I am liking it too, but it is funny because now when I read her books I picture the voices and persons of the TV show.
Started The White Lioness a couple of days ago. I love the Wallander series. It bothers me that they aren't filming the books in order for Masterpiece Theatre.

I did that too. I pictured the characters from the tv show while I was reading it.
The new "In Death" book was waiting for me on my Kindle when I got up this morning.
I'm pretty much unavailable for the rest of the day!

I'm pretty much unavailable for the rest of the day!"I completely understand, I'm addicted to this series as well. Bought it today but I have to finish the book I'm reading first. Can't wait to catch up on the gang! Enjoy, Sharon!
Sharon wrote: "Like most of hers, it definitely starts out with a bang. You're hooked in the first few pages." I had the choice of Eve and Roarke until next month or Reacher... I picked Reacher. (grin) It was a difficult choice, though. But since the last book was set in the past I wanted to see what "the large, quiet, stoic one" was up to presently. So, Eve and Roarke as soon as I earn more audible credits October 1st! Happy reading, Sharon!

I've had a wedding to buy for... my little 1st cousin once removed...she gets married this weekend. I've known about it for over a year and have I bought the gift yet? Nooooo... I have not. Am I going to the wedding? Noooo.... although, I really should've made the effort. It's going to be a major event, but I just could not make myself do it this time around.
