Shadow Zone and Silent Thunder both were very good.

Allison Brennan (abwrites) I have Gone Girl Gone Girl on my desk, but haven't had time to pick it up -- one kid going off to college next week, the others all starting the first day of school Monday, and catching up on back-to-school shopping, etc. I'm writing at night, not reading ... but next week!

Jannene | 775 comments I just finished Die Trying. It was definitely not as good as the first book. I only finished it because I had gotten to far into before I realized that I wasn't that impressed. It got a little better but not much.

Jannene | 775 comments Going to start reading Creole Belle. I've never read this author. I hope people are accurate saying they can be read as a stand alone. I'm one of those freaks that do not read books out of order. This will be my first. I'll be reading this for the book read.

Jeffrey Philips | 8 comments Jannene, I'm almost half way through Creole Belle and am really enjoying it.

message 7608: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Whidden (dawn71753) just finished TRACE by Caldwell, very disappointed. Now reading CAPTAIN BY THOMAS BLOCK...co author of MAYDAY with Nelson DeMille. Happy to say I found another favorite author. Cannot put this book down. If you like a good face paced thriller BLOCK'S CAPTAIN IS FOR YOU.

message 7609: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Started four last night/ today: The Dressmaker The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott , which has already sent me scurrying to Wikipedia to see what fashions by Lucille looked like; Murder With Puffins Murder With Puffins (Meg Langslow, #2) by Donna Andrews , which is the second in a cozy mystery series that I read the first of several months ago; Sand Sharks Sand Sharks (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #15) by Margaret Maron , which is one of two or three later books in this series that remain as part of my "batting cleanup" project, and Eight Million Ways to Die Eight Million Ways to Die (Matthew Scudder, #5) by Lawrence Block , next in my series reread of the Scudder books. Hoping to race through a couple of these mysteries because I really want to read Gone Girl Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and Rules of Civility Rules of Civility by Amor Towles .

Vicki I am working on Kisscut by Karin Slaughter. I am completely engrossed so far.

I recently finished Hot Blooded by Lisa Jackson. I liked it.

message 7615: by Rachel (new)

Rachel finished The Lost Hours and i loved it

currently reading Dark Places

message 7616: by Barb (new)

Barb I started reading Don't Ever Get Old several weeks ago when I got an advance copy through NetGalley. My computer crashed before I finished, and I was unable to re-DL the book from NetGalley, so I had to wait until I could get a print copy from my library. That's finally available, so now I have to figure out where I left off, then go from there!

Julie (gpangel) | 148 comments I just started Parallel Lies by Ridley Pearson

message 7620: by Wendy (new)

Wendy | 581 comments Just finished Rain Fall by Eisler No Survivorsby Tom Cain and The Outlander. I Have reviews for all three. Reading The Fifth Servant.
Simply said Rain Fall and Tom Cain's sequel to The Accident Man are both assassin themed novels and I liked. Outlander was good but not really a thriller too me, adventure but not thriller.
This Fifth Servant is: historical fiction of 1692 Prague with serious Jewish and Christian themes and mystery intrigue. so far so good. Hits my "UN Countries Challenge too".

Donna Galanti (donnagalanti) | 30 comments I just finished a book I couldn't put down - The Paradise Prophecy by Robert Browne. An epic supernatural thriller, with a spiritual spin on the demon and angel hierarchy. Browne racks up the twists and the "that did not just happen!" moments that you have to go back and indulgently re-read as you didn't see it coming. See my full review:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Now reading The Reincarnationist by M.J. Rose- more supernatural intrigue! The Reincarnationist

Judy Olson | 148 comments Just finished the two mysteries by GR author, Steve Robinson. His main character, Jefferson Tayte, is a genealogist who seems to get himself embroiled in deep family secrets while delving into family histories. Titles are In The Blood, and To The Grave. Both were very good...I hope he keeps on going.

I am considering these selections. I do have a totally off-topic question, though. How do you get the titles of your books underlined? Thanks.

message 7627: by J.F. (new)

J.F. Penn (joannapenn) I just finished Fallen Angel by Daniel Silva, the latest in the Gabriel Allon series. I love the books and this one definitely hooked me with stunning detail on the Vatican and Jerusalem The Fallen Angel A Novel (Gabriel Allon # 12) by Daniel Silva

Hi VickieLee, The underline of the title means the link to the book. To do that, when you have the comment box open just above it on the upper right you will see the words add book/author (some html is ok)

Click on the add book/author and you will get a box in which you can search for the book or author you want to include. When you find the book click on Add and it will put the title in underlined. You can also include the cover if you want using this same feature.

If you just want to make something bold or italics or use the spoiler feature the html coding is listed in the box that is revealed when you click on the (some html is ok). There are more instruction in the various threads in the Techno Corner folder, just scroll down to the bottom of the folder on this site.

Veronica (veraj121) | 129 comments I just finished reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn . This was a crazy book, literally. But it was very entertaining. Right now I am reading Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill , Very creepy

message 7634: by Ethan (new)

Ethan I just finished Fire Season by Jon Loomis. It was a short, light read, but still carried enough weight to be worth the time.

Now I'm reading Calico Joe by John Grisham. I'm always happy to have Grisham step away from his usual legal novels. So far, I'm really enjoying this baseball story.

message 7635: by Aiesha (new)

Aiesha (bigtexasaj) I finished the 50 Shades books this past weekend & enjoyed them, although not usually my type of read. I've been waiting for The Hunger Games movie to come out so that I could watch it and get a visual for what happened in the first book (I had a hard time picturing what was going on). Now I've started Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins so that I can finish the trilogy.

I also started They're Watching by Gregg Hurwitz by Gregg Hurwitz. It was a random book I had in my library that I got for a good price. I read one other of his books, Trust No One by Gregg Hurwitz and LOVED it so I'm hoping this one is good as well!

sarg (sargkc) | 13 comments High Profile (Jesse Stone, #6) by Robert B. Parker
If you have ever seen Tom Selleck Playing Jesse Stone in one of the Jesse stone versions of Robert Parkers series you would believe that the Movies came first. He portrays Jesse Stone exactly as Parker wrote it. Never liked Spencer series either the books or the TV series. But Jesse Stone are a winner both The Movies and the Books. (on page 146 of 304)

message 7638: by Ken (last edited Aug 21, 2012 03:02PM) (new)

Ken Consaul | 209 comments Just finihsed Hostile Witness, courtroom drama. There are plenty of reviews so I won't add one on the book page.

OK, I'm not a big fan of the Grisham type books as they are usually written by lawyers (wife of a judge in this case) and the lawyer is always conflicted about their client and has some emotional baggage they carry around. The client is one of several stock characters. In this one, the lawyer has an ex-cop boyfriend. Well, there's something new and unexpected. The story rolled out as is typical with lawyer books and turned on a piece of evidence they had all along and surprise, just didn't look at right. Scott Turow this isn't but, if you like attorney/courtroom exchanges between attorneys, it might be a go. No. No. I object. Calls for speculation on the part of the witness.

Finishing that I started The Moghul. The billing on this is 'The best book on India since Kipling'. I'm only about four chapters in and never once thought of Kipling (a fav of mine) once. What I did think of was James Clavell's Shōgun with a bit of Hornblower or Master and Commander. I'm liking this so far. It follows the founding of the East India Company and how they worked to take India from the Portugese. A little history I didn't know and more than a dash of swashbuckle. If this finishes as well as it started, I'll happily write a five star for it.

sarg (sargkc) | 13 comments Just finished Killing Lincoln The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O'Reilly Much of it was what I learned in High school but the second half of the book was the interesting Part, that I knew Little about. The Escape and the Possibilities of conspiracy's involving High political parties.

message 7640: by Barb (new)

Barb Finished reading Don't Ever Get Old by Daniel Friedman this afternoon. A good story, but I had to suspend disbelief too many times to rate it very high. How many 87 year old ex-detectives are going to be able to outwit an entire major city police department AND solve a decades old mystery at the same time?

Now I can start my re-read of The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett for my F2F book club meeting on Friday!

message 7641: by Nick (new)

Nick Wastnage (nickwastnage) | 32 comments I'm in the middle of reading The Hanging Shed by Gordon Ferris . It's the first of Gordon Ferris's novels I've read, and I'm impressed. Set in post second-world-war Glasgow, it tells of a man wrongly convicted, and due to hang, for a child murder. Ferris captures the poverty, depravity and slum conditions of The Gorbals and blends it in with the suspense and tension of – I expect – a police stitch-up.

message 7643: by Paulette (new)

Paulette I just finished The Innocent by David Baldacci. It was a good book but I do not particularly like to read books that require you to suspend your belief system: That all these things could happen perfectly and on time without any kind of mishap. There were so many things going on and all it would need was a stranger to stump their toe to bring it all tumbling down but of course that did not happen.
