I read teh reviews on The Various Haunts of Men and I'm still not sure if I want to read it. It sounds right to my specific genre yet I like good endings and some said this one had a disappointing one. Thank you Carolien

Just finished PROPHECY by JF PennProphecy (ARKANE Book 2) an EXCELLENT book. If you like educated, interesting, intellectual thrillers, this is the book for you. I'm picking up Sanford's STOLEN PREY this morning.

I really enjoyed the book - if you like Peter Robinson or Elizabeth George, I think you'll appreciate it. In fact, her style is very similar to Kate Atkinson who is another author known for non-crime fiction before starting in this genre. I have read one of the books from later in the series and I think it is worth while exploring.

I haven't read any of those author's yet... I was busy writing my memoir. I'm catching up though. I think I've heard of Elizabeth George. I am getting into Laura Lippman and like her style of writing. I think I will give Various Haunts of men a chance. Thank you and happy reading.

I'm about mid-way through A Carrion Death and yesterday I misplaced it. I was surprised by how upset I got. Not just because it belongs to the library but because I really wanted to know what happened next. I recommend it. It is grittier than that No. 1 Ladies Detective books, but Kubu--our hero--is traditionally built.

Just completed Steve Hamilton's 9th Alex McKnight mystery "Die a Stranger" thanks to a St Martins Press via Goodreads advance copy. Hamilton's Alex McKnight is an intersting character because as an ex-Detroit cop pursuing serenity in the Michigan UP wilderness, his view of the world is more grey than black and white. His loyalty to Vinny LeBlanc,one of his few friends in life, is called into question in this fast moving story and he uses all his detective skills and inherent integrity to save his friend. A very good mystery!

Just starting the newest Mark Billingham, The Demands. Well, the newest in the U.S. at least. It was published in the UK as Good As Dead. I guess here in the U.S. we just skipped right over #9 (From the Dead). Oh well, I'm just happy to be reading another Thorne novel.

Currently reading Deity by Stephen Dunne which is his 3rd crime thriller but is more of a stand alone novel. Underestimated author I think! Just finished 9 lives by moser which was a giveaway from goodreads. Okish horror but the author trying too hard to be Stephen King.

I am almost done with the first book in the "Fifty Shades" trilogy. When I first read of these books I could've sworn it said it was of the young adult fare. Once I was a few pages into the book I realized that the description must've said the book involves young adults. (hiding face and repeatedly banging head on table) Saying that, I have to add that I found it to be poorly written, the characters' actions(want to slap the unbelievably naive' female protagonist repeatedly with a "stupid stick") to be beyond unbelievable and yet the subject matter is so unsettling that I'm having a difficult time not wanting to rush through and read the ending just to find out if everything will be resolved.

The reason they're listed as they are on Vince's site is that he wrote "Transfer of Power" first. However, the first two are basically prequels. So, I would follow Vince's list. (smile) I love this author and his books, even if they are what some might consider "he-man guy books". (laughing) Enjoy.

Just finished The Company of Fellows and can't recommend it. I set it down several times only to give it another go. Just finished and the ending is so implausible I'm sorry the final nail in the coffin had to be at the end. Here's my review:

I ended up liking that one, Erin. I thought it was much better than the TV show that had the same premise. Hope you enjoy it.

Just finished Port Mortuary by Patricia Cornwell. I wish I could recommend it but I can't. All I can say is that I won't be wasting my hard earned cash on any more of Patricia Cornwell's books. I am now just getting started on Bad Boy by Peter Robinson.

Be cool, Jackie Brown. I don't really read Westerns, but any of the others I'm willing to try. I have Freaky Deaky and Cuba Libre in my TBR list.

I enjoyed Be Cool, Haven't read Jackie Brown. If you haven't read Maximum Bob it's also a good bet for laughs as well as action.

i read 1 of her scarpetta books in the 90's and never read her again.
