D.G. Continuing my Agatha Christie re-read, I started listening to A Murder Is Announced.

The narrator is so far great with the voices but has problems with her pacing. Sometimes she goes a long sentence without breathing and is winded at the end.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Finished Murder With Peacocks Murder With Peacocks (Meg Langslow, #1) by Donna Andrews and really liked it. Very funny, in both the prose and the situational humor. On the mystery front, now reading Truly, Madly (Lucy Valentine, #1) by Heather Webber Truly, Madly. Started it night before last and am nearly finished: can't seem to put it down!! Also started The Winter Garden Mystery The Winter Garden Mystery (Daisy Dalrymple, #2) by Carola Dunn , which is the second book in my challenge series read for this year.

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments I'm finally starting The Drop (Harry Bosch, #15) by Michael Connelly by Michael Connelly. He's my go-to author when I need a book guaranteed to be engrossing.

D.G. Sounds really good. My library has it in audio so I added it to my wish list.

BTW...I have Rain Fall on my TBR too and I'm hoping to read it soon.

Jannene | 775 comments I just finished The Maze. It was a 5 star book in my opinion. It had great characters, and intriguing villain, and crazy family members. It grips you within the first few chapters. You really fall in love with the main character, Lacey. She is so strong, likable, protective, and unwavering in her thoughts and ideas. Loved it!!

message 6164: by Judith (new)

Judith Starkston | 47 comments Iran is in the news these days and I find the issues compelling, so I enjoyed reading Libby Fischer Hellmann’s new novel, A Bitter Veil, set in the midst of the Iranian revolution that brought Khomeini to power. A good read and a great way to absorb the background info of the current problems. Two essential themes predominate in this viscerally effective novel: the fate of women when their choices have been taken from them and the banality of evil, to borrow a phrase applied to the Nazis—who also appear in this book if somewhat indirectly. Here’s my review.

Jannene | 775 comments I was reading T is for Trespass but I just couldn't get into it. I think perhaps I am just burned out from reading her or maybe this book isn't as good as the others. I am not sucked in. I will try this again later this year.

I started The Black Echo. It is my second book by Michael Connelly. I read the The Lincoln Lawyer but didn't really care for it. I'm hoping that Harry Bosch pulls me in since everyone says this is a good series.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10002 comments I finished To Have and to Kill by Mary Jane Clark, the first book in the "wedding cake" series. The amateur detective in this series is an aspiring actress/cake decorator; the book was interesting enough that I'd probably read the next book in the series.

Well actually its my first Jeffery Denver novel as well.

I find the novel very interesting, he did a great job at it. Through James Bond character seems less like the James Bond of Ian Fleming or the James Bond of the movies.
There are a lot of references to the original work.

Its a good book, I simply loved the way he showed today's espionage world.

I've read most of them as well and liked them. Not quite 'buy to keep' for re-reading often, but well enough to check out from the library and re-read occasionally. Very good characterization, which I enjoy.

Ed (oct1647) Just finished Ken Bruen's "Headstone". This Galway based ex Guardia PI is kind of like Galway's version of Dave Rochichaud on steroids and Guiness. This book was outstanding and memorable for the variety of interesting characters Jack Taylor interacts with, some with violent outcomes but all imbued with Bruen's uniques Irish wit and style. I highly recommend it.

Yep, I liked them, and I agree with Sharon, not enough to want to keep them in the already-overflowing-stacks-of-kept-books, but even my brother requested that they stick around long enough for him to re-read.

I'm one of those that doesn't read in order, mostly because I read them when I come across them...

Finished Death of an Englishman today on the train from Montreal to Quebec. Hi to all our Canadian members! I am really enjoying my vacation here.

Enjoyed Death of an Englishman very much. Good interesting characters, the wonderful city of Florence as the setting, and lots of twists and turns in the plot. It's a police procedural but not gory or dark, more in the Hercule Poirot style of detection rather than cutting edge forensic science. I believe this book has been out of print, or at least hard to find, for awhile but it seems to be more widely available now. I recommend it for the arm chair travelers among us.

Jeremy Spaulding Right now I am reading The Case of the Perjured Parrot, a Perry Mason novel by Erle Stanley Gardner. Like most of the Perry Mason novels, it starts out like a PI novel, but I am sure there will be court scene at the end.

You should start with the earlier ones of Sue Grafton. I just read all through "S" and found the earlier ones before "J" are really a lot better.

I have the audiobook version of Basket Case. It's my favorite Hiassen. Pure genius.

message 6200: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimmr) I've finished The Chemistry of Death. It was okay, if a bit disappointing. I'll read the next one in the series, but if Beckett keeps up the annoying foreshadowing, that will be the end of the road for me.
