Just finished The Potted Gardener, an Agatha Raisin mystery; my first and enjoyed very much. Just starting By the Time You Read This, a John Cardinal mystery by Giles Blunt. I've enjoyed all of the other books in the series so far.

Just finished Dead Man's Song. Good, not great, gave it 3 stars. Looking forward to the final chapter. Just started
.
HI All, in the middle of Allan Leverone's thriller The Lonely Mile
Tense and getting to a good part where it's hard to read it but I have to!
I just finished Grendel by John Gardner, which was awesome. I'm about to start Wood by Robert Dunbar and The Given Day by Dennis Lehane.

It's been a very long time since I read a Lee Child book, and now I remember why. After reading so many enthusiastic comments about Child and Jack Reacher, I was excited to open "Echo Burning" and begin reading. It didn't take long at all for me to get that creeping sense of disappointment that one gets when one realizes that the book they are reading is not only falling short of expectations, but is actually pretty awful. I kept reading, hoping for improvement, but I have arrived at page 181, and I've decided that it's just not worth the time and effort. I have too many other books waiting. No spoilers, but the whole premise of the story, Reacher, out of the blue, being brought into this very suspicious family by their much disliked daughter/sister-in-law, was ridiculous to begin with. The characters and dialogue are stereotypical and poorly written. Their interactions are truncated and unbelievable. I find, really, nothing at all to like about this book. I won't be reading another.
I blame all you people who write about series that are new to me; I have now started 5 new series! Yes, I do love Dr, Siri Paiboun, and expect to love the others as well, but, gee, a girl can only do so much!

Fellow readers: good influence or bad? YES.
I finished Shelley The Lifeboat Labrador - John Periam. I am listening to The Ballroom On Magnolia Street - Sharon Owens and reading Broken City - D.D. Chant.
I finished
. I did like this book and enjoyed the story. I liked how she would go back in time and have the story recreated by the characters on the days leading to the event. It was an interesting read from their perspective. However, Kinsey usually ties the entire story in a big bow. Meaning, you know all the answers to the questions throughout the book. That was not the case in this story which really irked me. I like closure and I don't feel that I had that with this book which is why I gave it just a 3 star. The characters are likable with the exception of Violet. I found her some big floozy which I couldn't stand. I feel the reader was let down a little since the story didn't seem complete with all the questions addressed.

This is a series I must get back to!!!

Agree totally!!! Any suggestions for books set in Florence?? Plan on visiting Florence next year and would like to have dipped into a few books before I go. I had read quite a few of Donna Leon's novels prior to visiting Venice a few years back - absolutely loved it, such a unique and beautiful city, a city I certainly hope to re-visit in the future!!!
Love Hewson, have not read Donna Leon, which I hope to rectify soon. Has anyone read
by Michele Giuttari? This is her fourth book, I have it at home but have not read it yet?

The books by Magdalen Nabb are set in Florence. I think the series begins with Death Of An Englishman. I have it on Mt TBR!

I went to Venice 3 years ago and thought it was a dirty city. I didn't care for it at all. I loved Florence though. It was so pretty and I loved the churches. We went on a few tours there in Florence. My favorite was Rome (all in the same trip).
Now I'm going to Scandinavia in August and looking forward to it. I should look for some books based there as it might give me some insight on the cities.

It's a 9hr audio Barbara, so I started it at 8am this morning and just finished it now lol.
I have just finished the delightful Broken City. Was very surprised at the writing and once I got into the book, I couldn't put it down. Now I am going to read The Truce for review.

Tad wrote: "Just started A Quiet Flame ( by Philip Kerr."Terrific book and series. New one next month.
I just finished Who Do, Voodoo? by debut author Rochelle Staab. I thought it was a superbly told story from beginning to end.If you're a cozy fan, this is pretty much the standard for excellence, IMO. And with the Voodoo angle, she's hit on something very unique.

I have this one on my TBR pile. I will definitely move it up. I had been wondering what it was like.

Looks like this one has to go on my to-read list.
I'm currently reading The Killing Edge. I am totally engulfed in this story. This is my first read by Heather Graham. I'm also reading T is for Trespass. I've breezed through that series in a matter of 4 months.
I decided not to read The Truce last night as I couldn't think straight, so I started reading Private Eyes.
Just finished Strip Jack by Ian Rankin and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although the mention of Kingussie in the Scottish Highlands felt false as it wasn't pouring with rain constantly. Yes, that was a holiday to forget :), but other than that it was another great read in the Rebus series.
I'm coming back to this genre after a couple of months reading sci-fi/fantasy and I've had a couple of Jeffrey Deaver's on my tbr for years so I'm finally getting to The Sleeping Doll and Roadside Crosses. I'm not sure I like the female protagonist Kathryn Dance, but I'll give it a go.

My favorite out of that series so far is A Death In Vienna. The others were pretty good as well. The rest I rated 4 stars. Very good books.
Finished the stand alone
and it was a slower paced atmospheric read with a very likable character. I liked it. Now reading
and
, for review.

Yes you have - you left me in the dust - I just finised E is for Evidence today!!
Just finished reading
It was a pretty good book about the Israeli-Palestinian ongoingtragedy, lots of historical background and future threats to each other as well as to the USA. A Jewish
Lawyer defends a Palestinian ex-lover accused of killing a Jewish Diplomat in the USA. One can react to this book in many different ways.
Jan wrote: "I finished The Chalk Girl by Carol O'Connell, the latest Mallory novel, and I recommend it highly."This is my very favorite series, Mallory has been around quite a while, way before many of the others.
I finished
last night. This book was great. Chloe was a character that women would want to be; strong, confident, and speaks her mind. She didn’t get scared easily or rattled which I admired. She just wasn’t one of those girls you had to coddle. The story was interesting and totally engulfed me. I was reading until 11:30 pm just to finish this book. I didn’t care for the detail in the intimacy between her and Luke. I think they could have left that out and it still would have made it a good book.
