Only on pg. 60 and it always takes me a little to get back to these atmospheric and slower paced reads but am really liking it now.

I turned the daughter of a friend of mine onto the Shugak/Stabenow series, she's currently living in Alaska and enjoys the story settings and says they seem accurate to her.

I like the series too Sharon. Kate's some tough cookie!

Saw a review on Defending Jacob in Entertainment Weekly. Tell me what you think of it when you are finish. Sounds really interesting.

No problem.

Gone tomorrow was my best lee child book , I hope you will like it too.

I am surprised at how much depth they are going into regarding Rutledge's problem. Seems like more than in previous books.

Became a Jack Reacher fan because of this book. Now working my way through all of them.

Yeah, that happens with him. WHen I finished 61 Hours (wherein we must assume at the end he has been blown to smithereens), I spent weeks trying to imagine how he could have survived, and what the explanation would be, thinking, "too implausible." Then he came up with a perfectly plausible explanation.
I was relieved.

Would it be as sadistic and explosive as the The Girl with the dragon tattoo ??

I could only read about 50 pages of Lisa Black's

it up as to me it was boring and too much like a TV
show ie: Body of Proof. Nothing new here. I guess
I read too much. Right now I am finishing

Thanks, Cliff. You're spot on about MacDonald and Chandler. Very similar, but there are some key differences. I've read all of Chandler's work so far, and now I'm going to have to do the same for MacDonald. I'm really looking forward to it.
Oh, and thanks for reading. ;)

With Connelly, even his sub-par books are better than most authors' best work.

HUGE Ross MacDonald fan here! I'm currently reading all his books in order. The last one I finished was The Instant Enemy, written in 1968. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but did not take the time to write a review.
Personally, I like MacDonald a little bit better than Chandler. (Egads, did I just say that in a group of mystery fans??!?) I just love Lew Archer's sardonic wit and insight into human character.

What It Was
All I Did Was Shoot My Man

Chandler was my first love in vintage crime, so I've got to keep him on the pedestal, but I agree with you that Ross MacDonald is up there about on the same level. I can't bring myself to say that he's better, mind you, but to each their own, eh?
And Phillip:
I read All I Did Was Shoot My Man a few weeks ago and was greatly impressed. It was my first Mosley book (got it as an ARC for early reviewing), and now I'm looking forward to reading more from him.

Gave it a 3-star rating, liked it and would like to try another one or two and see how the series progresses.

That insight and introspection is what made him a ground-breaker in the genre, I think.

Reading up above I see Pelecanos gets excellent ratings and recommendations. I haven't read him. Should I? Tell me more about him....
I am starting Charlie Huston's Caught Stealing as my next book.

I really liked Parker's Silent Joe. Oh, and Charlie Huston rocks. You really are on a great streak, Tim.

I'm reading Parker's new one The Jaguar now. Love his descriptions of the desert.

I just finished The Case of the Missing Books. It was just okay. I guess I was expecting a book about a librarian to make more references to books and reading. I'm starting Death comes to Pemberly today. I've read all of P.D. James' books but this "sequel" to Pride and Prejudice is entirely different from her other series.

What and whom do you like to read? I have received some excellent recommendations from this fine group for authors I might otherwise not have found. I will submit to you several I currently find excellent: Robert Crais and T. Jefferson Parker. I also like Jeffery Deaver. And Stephen Hunter is really the best, in my opinion. Michael Connelly is mostly top-notch.

the begining was all you wanted in a good triller but the end was a disappointment.
